So the Arena Commander Mode of Star Citizen just got launched and oh my god it's so fun.

"What you see is what you play". Nice one.
Also, dat frame rate. Well, there's still working on it so, cool stuff. This and Elite are getting me excited.
As much as I wanna try it asap, think I'll wait tell a few patches to make it stable.
There were a couple delays already. They wanted to release a stable build and have held it back.
Watching a stream of it right now. Seems to be running fine. Must have just been an issue with the build when they were making the trailer.
Looking pretty decent for such an early build.
My concern though in the long run.... how do you even make space combat in MP or hell even SP complex and challenging.... i mean... it looks very casual at the moment.

I'll give it a try later on, been wanting to wait for a stable build so hopefully it's not to bad.
Is there a linux client, or do I need Microsoft's abomination to play this?
Yea its only for windows
yes for the time being it's only for windows.
but good news farrell2k! not just for you, but for me and all gamers across the world - star citizen will come to linux (in case you didn't know already).

Wait I'm really confused. Everyone said Arena Commander was a 12GB download but I literally just did a 200mb patch and I'm in. That doesn't even make sense...

if you already had star citizen downloaded, like the hanger module, then it probably only had to download stuff it doesn't already have. eg: it probably already had your models, cryengine, etc.

Just kidding. It got me really hyped, with a "play now" button and everything. Then, when i clicked it, I got bombarded with a bunch of patches, 12gb total. Damn lol

you clicked it and got covered in arena commander
Just played a bunch of the free flight today. The build runs way better on my computer now than it did. Still lags a bit (stable framerate is about 20-25 fps) but it's playable. Friend who hooked me up with my Freelancer is buying a new computer and is just going to give me his old one. He is a bit too generous.
The game is excellent even in it's current, buggy state. The attention to detail is extraordinary. I just picked up a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flight stick ($40 CAD MSRP) and am just setting it up. Hopefully it is supported already and/or will be soon. This game is going to consume my life. And is just the kind of experience I've been waiting for in gaming I think.

Never has a gif so successfully captured what I'm feeling.

You should have to experience it. I hate it more than anyone. I offer him some money, and he just turns it down. He's very loose with his money, and it seems like he enjoys making other people happy.
Call me in about 1-2 years when it's all finally done and FB Rift releases to support it. Then hopefully I'll have been able to afford a rig upgrade and will have the proper hardware to play it as it was envisioned in full. Not much for seeing it built and released floor by floor. Looks good regardless though.
I'm amazed at how stable the v0.8 build is, in single player modes anyway. Playing on high settings (don't want to fry my system ;) ) and getting a steady 60 frames, no stuttering or frame rate drops, for an early alpha build it's rock solid.
It does lose server connection quite frequently though but at the moment that isn't overly important to me, as I don't have multiplayer yet.
Yeah the performance on this for a pre alpha was totally surprising,in fact it was so good I managed to knock detail down from very high at 1920x1080 and set it to high and run it at 6000x1080,and that is on a 4 year old i7 860 and a 2 year old 7970 ghz.
I think delaying it was the best thing they could have done the difference between this and the December build is massive.
plays well and looks amazing. just gotta sort out my controls then i'll do some multiplayer.
What are your rig specs?
