If you listen to IGN's review of star ocean 4 you would have heard them say when you want to go back to other areas in the game you will need to change disc, so basically if u need to back track your gonna need to change disc then change it again once you need to continue foward with the game again, thats just Lame star ocean 4 really needed to be on blu-ray, changing dics isnt so bad, but when you need to change discs just to back track in a game it's no good at all, and if anyone has played a star ocean game you would know there is a lot of back tracking.

Well the game is complete right? It does suck to swap discs that many times however it's still managable and scored well on IGN.

I wanted star ocean 4 to be on the ps3 from the get go, all the star oceans have been very story driven and I could see how this game would have heavily benefited from the bluray's storage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a first for RPGs? I don't think I've ever had to change disc to go back to another area.

umm most likely the install time on the PS3 would have equaled the same time as disk swapping in one total playthrough. Unless the game has heavy backtracking, but i dont care too much since all JRPG's are complete garbage.

That game needs to be ported to the PS3. That just proves there's nothing next gen about the 360. The last time I heard about disc swapping being common was on the PSone.I'm wondering how many games now are out for the 360 that are on multiple discs?

I love Blu-Ray and think it is a great new format, however swapping disks I could really care less about. On the other hand, the fact that if you want to go back to another location, you need to swap disks, it's a pretty stupid design flaw. I'm sure I will still enjoy it, but it's just one of those things where the developer should have said "wow this was a pretty stupid idea, we should find a way around it"

I'm wondering how many games now are out for the 360 that are on multiple discs? If a games good enough the disc swapping should matter. Besides, the 360 can HDD install games so no swapping need,+ fast loading.insomnia37

No it doesnt. You want it? Buy a 360 -why? it'll probably come out for ps3 in 5 or 6 months without disk swapping and hopefully higher res graphics.

?WTF? No, it proves that the 360 needs larger DVD compatability, thats all. -hahahahaha, larger dvd compatability? you do realize dvd's can only hold so much right? they need to switch media format to.... oh, i dunno.... bluray? so that there won't be multiple discs

If a games good enough the disc swapping should matter. Besides, the 360 can HDD install games so no swapping need,+ fast loading. know how lems are always talking about the 360 being better because its cheaper because you can buy it without a hard drive? well lets assume you bought the cheap version and have no hard drive in it. yer kinda hosed huh? and although it's not what you intended your freudian slip of a "game being good enough the disc swapping shoud matter" is true. once you start getting into the game and then you get a "please insert disc 1..... now loading..... now loading..... now loading....." that kinda kills the experience.

And what would be the point? the same engine they used for the 360 was a ps3 engine first.

Just makes you wonder how much of the stuff they actually had to cut out of the game due to space restrictions. They already mentioned they had to cut out various scenes and additional content.:(

I wish it would have just come out for the PS3 in the first place. Maybe a directors cut in the future. I see it happening more and more.

No, I dont have a link, so you could either believe me or not. So if your not too lazy deal witht the disc swaps or HDD loading.

-hahahahaha, larger dvd compatability? you do realize dvd's can only hold so much right? they need to switch media format to.... oh, i dunno.... bluray? so that there won't be multiple discs HD DVDswould like to say hi! Although its probably too late for the 360 they couldve implemented HD DVD compatability, a nice touch and way less than a bluray player.

I got a used 360 for $180, then a week later I got a 20 Gb HDD for $20..... thats cheap dude. When I swap discs with 360 games the most I wait is 5 seconds after the tray closes for the game to continue. Horrible right?

Devs do like to change their minds when money is thrown in their face, so hopefully they will, however i will still be getting it for 360...

HD DVD will not be implemented into anything now, seems as production has stopped for it. Anything wanting a larger format will turn to Blu-Ray now, unless they want to invest substantially more money into creating a new format...

Agreed, used 360's can be picked up pretty cheap now, however to buy any type of hard drive for a 360 is ridiculously priced, unless of course you go the used route... however 20gb for installing games is nothing right now

My qualm is not entirely with disc swapping, but the fact that the technology has grown alot compared to the PS1 days. Why not just have another disc then put us through swapping disc period. An install would have been more sufficient and more benefical to them for a number of reasons. One, I'll say it again. They had to cut stuff out of the final product due to space restrictions. Blu ray probably would have fixed that and i'd much rather sit through a 1 min install, then have stuff cut out of a game [final product] due to space restrictions. That just opens up more reason to make a PS3 port also. Laoding issues are also a reason. I couldl go on, but those are some of the things that I think couldl have been worked out. Im already pissed theres n Jp VA and dthey replaced the anime avatars with ugly 3-D models *sigh*

You have to change disk to backtrack and then to change it back to continue forward with the story. This isn't the same as swap disk when done with this one.

Seriously? wow :?

Although, I don't think lack of bluray is to blame as much as it is devs who make the game like that.

We don't exactly know the difference it would have on the PS3, a lot of PS3 games have take up more space because the drive is a lot slower then the xbox 360's DVD drive. That is why there are installs for PS3 games and xbox 360 games don't have any. Who knows how much space it would have taken up on a blu-ray but it wouldn't be the same size as the xbox 360.

Huh, Link? It was never exclusive to the PS3, people only thought it would come to the PS3, but they never made any offical word until it was shown as an exclusive 360 game.

Nah, mandatory installs just botter you a few minutes and thats it. Disc swaping, specially this case, sounds very annoying.

That just opens up more reason to make a PS3 port also. Laoding issues are also a reason. I couldl go on, but those are some of the things that I think couldl have been worked out. Im already pissed theres n Jp VA and dthey replaced the anime avatars with ugly 3-D models *sigh*hayato_

Dont you think if the content that couldnt fit was deleted it wasnt that important? Sure if SO4 was on he PS3 we would have the content regardles of importance but still, maybe the content was unnecessary.... except for the anime portraits and overal menu interface in the JPN version, thats one pieceof content I really wanted.

If you listen to IGN's review of star ocean 4 you would have heard them say when you want to go back to other areas in the game you will need to change disc, so basically if u need to back track your gonna need to change disc then change it again once you need to continue foward with the game again, thats just Lame star ocean 4 really needed to be on blu-ray, changing dics isnt so bad, but when you need to change discs just to back track in a game it's no good at all, and if anyone has played a star ocean game you would know there is a lot of back tracking.

bigLLL

i would much rather swap discs than having installation times, especially between each chapter :|

But you have to go back to this area so you change to the previous disk. OOPS now you made a mistake and don't really need to go there but where you were so you change the disk back. See that can get annoying.

lol at people going 'installation time'. the only game i've had installations between chapters is MGS4, and one chapter takes time to complete. almost every ps3 game installs the first time you insert the disc. also, hasn't the 360 implemented the 'mandatory installs' to reduce noise, disc-scratching, etc.? people saying, 'installation times' are just lame. next time go buy a ps3 first, will you?

Not if you have a HDD which majority of 360 owners have. Before you even start the game start the disk installation, grab a soda, sit back for maybe 12 minutes and your set to play.

Sooner or later you are going to run out of room on your HDD for installing games though. I mean say if I had the amount of 360 games as I do for a PS3 and the average installation files is 3gigs. I have 45 games x 3 gigs per game = 135gigs worth of space. Now of course I can always buy a bigger HDD or just delete the file from my HDD but then if I want to play again I have to install and manage my files. The PS3 style of installing isn't the way to go and the xbox 360 DVD isn't the way to go, but that is all we have. Both have their ups and downs so might as well deal with them until next gen consoles.

I love my xbox 360 as much as the next person(excluding some of course :P ) but try installing multi-disk games onto a 20gig HDD. You will only be able to add 2-3 games per HDD before having to manage files again. If you have an Elite then sure you won't have problems but for the 20gig users, I would even bother :P
