Star Ocean: The Last Hope Gamespot Review (7.5) - PS3

Don't worry, I'm not going around telling people what they hope for when then don't even do...I don't honestly care, I didn't make the game.;)

Anyways, check out my link as well, that poll even found the game to be "A" hype majority with about 160 voters. Sure, polls are broken, but it's a telling tale of how low most expected, even non PS3 owners.

Like I said, my link shows directly what I said, I didn't "Hope" for anything at all. There was no hope involved.:P

I didn't make anything up -- whether or not you hoped it would achieve AA is my inferrence, but you at least suspected it "might" achieve AA; otherwise, you wouldn't have added that little "Maybe 8.0" at the end of your comment. You wouldn't have said such if you didn't believe at all within it. Again, notice the "or" in my post as I inferred that you hoped, and/or suspected it could achieve AA. Simple as that.

I'm well aware of the hype, as such I linked that same exact thread within the first few posts of this very thread. I was merely showcasing that quite a few might be surprised at the 7.5 score instead of the AA hype they were leaning towards.

Yes he was, but that doesn't mean that he still didn't suspect an 8.0 was possible or wasn't out of reach -- which many did view was possible as evident by that hype thread even though you have consistently said that anyone who knew did his research regarding this game wouldn't say that. I still find that rather odd. Regardless, this began in regards to the "No surprises here" comment by Solidty, I'm sure quite a few might be surprised by this -- finalstar2007 being one of them! ;)

I'm not sure what I'm "begging" at, or how one could see something like so as a "win" or a "loss," either. Tis' strange that you would view such that way, I hope I haven't struck a nerve. :?

I played the 360 version, and while I didn't think it was terrible, it was a disappointment, and SO4 is my least favorite SO game of the 4.

I'm not rushing back to play it again like I did with the past three SO titles.

Maybe I'll get this... I've been itching for a decent JRPG and was horribly disappointed with WKC

Its pretty good.

Shoddy on storyline 9.5/10 on just about everything else.

Even as a JRPG enthusiast I've never been into the Star Ocean series. Tried SO3 and didn't care for it so I doubt I'd like this one either.

For those claiming higher standards robbed the PS3 version of AA status, look at some other timed exclusives. I don't think that argument holds up. Other games ported to the PS3 late -- such as Bioshock, with received virtually no real benefits -- scored exactly the same as their 360 counterparts. There are, however, games that receive some extra attention and so score higher. Clearly, Square didn't do enough to the game to make it significantly better on PS3...

I think GS just wants to compare these ports to the original game, so that when people look up "Star Ocean" they can tell if the versions are the same or not.

(360 - PS3)

Bioshock - 9.0, one year later with barely any improvements - 9.0

Braid - 9.5, one year later with no improvements - 9.5

Oblivion - 9.3, one year later with minimal improvements 9.5 (rounded UP)

Red Alert 3 - 7.0, one year later wiwth significant improvements 7.5

Ninja Gaiden II - 8.0, one year later with significant improvements 8.5

Maybe I'll get this... I've been itching for a decent JRPG and was horribly disappointed with WKC

Somebody hasn't played WKC :| . I suggest you do because its way better looking than Final Fantasy XII. Especially in the first level and when you get to the city of Greede

I just picked it up the story is the same save the human race world blah blah blah but the rest is very good. The gameplay and side quest are very good there is alot to dig into. I really liked the item creation feature it had me running all over really making the sidequest worth it. It was also nice to pick what skills I wanted to power up as well as custom combos. You could really dig into the gameplay with the beat system for example. The story gets told with cgi clips about 10mins per episode and they are too long and cause the story to drag at times destroying the pace of the game.

The graphics are pretty good with diffrent planets to visit with diffrent looks but the camera needs work. I love the optional japenese voices and music with subs you can also change the menu's. The music is also good with the sound effect placement being well done as you could hear enemies coming and what direction for example. It's a good game just not a great one. There are about 30-50 hrs of gameplay depending on what you do as well as diffrent outcomes depending on your personal interactions to a certain degree. I am looking for a super powerful boss that all square games seem to have hidden but so far its about a 8 out of 10 imo.

7.5= good so still a good game lol worth renting atleast

LMAO you try to hard dude he hyped it at 7.5 the game got 7.5 what more is there to discuss? Just because he thought the game MIGHT(important word) score a 8 doesnt mean thats what he hyped it at he clear said hes pretty sure that the game will get a 7.5. How can you strike my nerves by being wrong? Expected. I dont know how some cows thought such minor additions would warrant it an AA score. Regardless, this is a really good game with tons to do. I reccommend PS3 (and 360) owners pick this up sometime. Maybe when theres a drought.

its Square Enix the worst JRPG devs on the market,so no surprises here! Whatever they published/made this gen was floppish, i like the boxart though...

i dont think this will sell other than Japan,since Other people can just get it for 10/20$ for 360.It sux anyway,i thought the extras were good..meh
