Stop Bashing GTA IV!!

I'm sick of blind users bashing GTA IV all the time. They always go ^^^^ing about GTA IV because it doesn't have all the things that San Andrease did. I know that and I kinda wanted more in GTA IV BUT you guys don't understand why this game is stripped from that stuff.

Let us go back to the times of GTA 3. GTA 3 didn't have parachuting and tons of cars. They built the engine from the scratch and they updated it more and more in the following spin offs like Vice City and San Andrease.

They did the same thing in GTA IV. They built the engine from ground up so expect more features and side mission stuff in its spin offs (because if RS didn't do more GTAs, they would waste a great series)

Another thing why GTA IV lacked lots of sandbox stuff is RS took the game into a more realistic direction so seeing a tank chasing a bike is stupid or flying my jet around LC and launch lots of missiles is unrealistic. So try to understand.

The massive Sandbox elements and Unrealistic-ness from past GTA's is the main thing i liked about them, and GTA 4 doesn't have them.

So although GTA 4 does quite well at being an emotional, gritty story like it was meant to do. It didn't do what it should've and could've done, create a next gen SA style sandbox game.

No, they bash gta everytime. If you check the SR2 preview comment, they always say GTA IV sucked and such.

I'm glad GTA 4 is coming to PC, so I can give it the bashing it truly deserves!

All i'm going to say is that the pure success of the GTA franchise rides on the the fact that the past games allowed you the freedom to do so many things that so many of us can't, aren't allowed, and don't do in real life.

GTA 4 heavily dumbed that aspect down. EVERYBODY I know whos played the game says they think the past games are better as well.

GTA 4 is NOT what GTA 3 was for last gen.

I felt like there was nothing interesting left to do once I finished the main storyline.

Shoot a bunch of pedestrians? Deliver some cars? Been there, done that. Although I did enjoy watching some of the shows.

Two things very quickly.

1) Don't assume everybody who bashes GTA 4 does so because it didn't have all the features San Andreas did.

2) Changing generations is not a 'reset button' for game design.

I like how you say GTA III was stripped down, and yet it's OK for GTAIV to be stripped down to the same degree as well, a whole gen later.

Makes sense to me. I don't expect progression from new entries in long-running series.

I think GTA IV was a great game, one of the best so far this gen! And I have to admit I was rather hard on it, but I still dislike it for the fact that it took out so many good things that San Andreas added.

It made some great improvements, HOWEVER it is true that it felt alot more restricting, the world despite its graphics wasnt as interesting .... and well... it felt limited and small incomparison ( Except, Story mode which wa sa huge improvement. ... until that point where 40% of missions lacked any proper story ).

GTA IV shot itself in the foot when going for realism instead of what made it famous, of course everyone was caught in the hype that the fact it was just a new GTA game, but after time when the great story was done gamers noticed something. The horid driving mechanics that drove them insane during the missions did nothing to help playing the game after the story was done, the Police were laughably easy to loose and never hard to easilly smash into bits when even at 5 stars. there was nothing else to do besides be pestered by 12 phonecalls from your friends wanting to bowl for the 15th time today.

By creating a more realistic GTA, they created a restricted game that was not as sandbox as it used to be, and being a sandbox game made it what it is today it should never turn it's back on what it used to be.

It'll never stop. Bashers will still try to convince themselves that previous GTA's were better, and that even Saints Row is better. When in fact, GTA IV improved the gameplay a lot. I think bashers need to go back and play the old games they think stand up so well today.BioShockOwnz

yeah just did few weeks ago and I still pefer Vice City more I just simply enjoyed it more... the music, the setting, 80's, the story, the lack of realism... but I still love GTA4 I just like Vice City the most

Vice City is great, but it has inferior gameplay (targeting system, and so on), but that's okay. Still my 2nd favorite GTA title.

I bash it for kind of disappointing me. It's only been out for a few months but I'm done with it. I played the others for years after they came out, pretty much until the next one came and replaced it. And they didn't have online.

They lost some of the humor and WOW factor of the other games. It is tighter, more polished, and the gameplay elements that are there work better than ever, but there are so few of them compared to San Andreas.

I agree. I still gave it a 10 because I expected there to be more to do after the story ended, and admittedly, bought into the hype, but if I had to redo it it would lose a .5 at the very least. It's too good to be less than a 9, but it's missing too much of what made GTA my favorite series to be the equal of MGS4 (10).

I have the same experience. Everyone online (BioShockOwnz for example) talks like this game is the saviour of mankind, but everyone I know offline is done with it. Is there even military for 6 stars? I don't think I've ever seen it, and man did I see a lot of it in the others. Highjacking a tank, turning the turret around and slinging yourself forward, WRU?!?!? I MISS YOU! The game is still great but when you are living up to the GTA name, you are held to higher standards and I don't think they quite nailed it.

That line sums it up man. That's how I felt. Even the rampages aren't as fun. Or if you like to beat up pedestrians like me, there doesn't seem to be a threshold for when the cops come. In the old games you could beat individual peds to death without attracting any stars, as long as you didn't do it too frequently. Now when I bash some guys brains in I need to run six blocks to avoid detection. :(

They put a ton into the TV, a fair bit of time into the internet, but the radio stations had like 10 songs a piece, and a lot of it was there obviously to break new artists, it wasn't put into the game for it's relevance to the setting or because it was a great song. I still love the game, I can't dislike a GTA, but I am kind of disappointed overall.

Bikes were completely nerfed.

Characters weren't as good. In the past GTA, very few characters were introduced with very strong ties to you.

And what does GTA IV do?

Roman Bellic is only visible through phone after the first part of the game.

Instead, you're introduced to a ton of mob people who you'll never really care about.

And some incredibly annoying and stupid characters like Manny.

Its official, this game completely tarnished Rockstars name.

The only person who actually thinks this game is better than the past GTA's, from what I've seen, is BioshockOwnz.

I was actually glad they took all the stuff like character customisation and car modding out. It was a distraction, when the focus should have been on the missions.

Yeah, the whole, "Beat up someone, cops immediately found out" concept was really annoying.

And maybe Rockstar could've taken out the things like Internet and TV, which no one really cared about, and added more areas to the world.

And radio stations suck pretty bad too.

Char. customization and car modding were not missed at all. Jets, jetpacks, parachutes, quads, hovercraft, GANGS, turf, businesses, unlimited ammo, the military, James Woods, Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Liotta, Luis Guzman, Burt Reynolds WERE missed. Among others. Stuff like car modding isn't what we are talking about it lacking.

Music from GTA IV is good. I'm sorry if it didn't cater to your tastes. LCHC is one of the best ever!

Car controls aren't frustrating. You have to take your time to adopt to the new controls. I'm fine with them. I actually prefer them. Cars feel like they have weight to them, and I like that.

Also, bikes are the same. They're fine, but you have to learn how to handle them.

Characters weren't good? Errr, what? GTA IV had the best characters of any GTA, with an exception of maybe Vice City.

What does GTA do? Um, it improved on the gameplay. Better targeting system, OTS camera, physics, and the whole deal, my friend.

I cared about a lot of the people in GTA IV, because where in previous GTA's they just disappeared, in GTA IV, you could stay in contact.

I agree, Manny was a crappy character, but that's the only one I didn't like.

Tarnished Rockstars name? Fail. Have you seen the sales or reviews? Yup, it's one of their most successful.

And no, I'm not the only one. The reviewers and plenty of fans agree with me, it's just that the haters have the loudest voices. For a game they don't like, they sure do like to talk about it a lot... :|

Why not have both? why not make GTAIV be deserving of it's 10, by having it be all it coud be as a sanbox game?
