[QUOTE="Wasdie"]I must agree. Personally I don't think that Starcraft 2 has anything on it. That is just personal opinion of course.pachari
I think the exact opposite...
As I may not agree with what you are saying I will defend to the death the right for you to say it :P.

it got delayed until 2009 several months back.
If true, I think that's the fastest I've ever seen a thread be killed. Of course it might always by 09 GOTY...
Exactly...

But with Empire, Starcraft and Demigod it looks like '09 will be RTS heaven. :)
Demigod really isn't a RTS is it?

Hi guys,
As the release date of Empire: Total War has been announced (3rd Feb 09 in the US and 6th Feb 09 in the UK and Pal territories), I am going to lock this speculation thread now.SenseiTW

Demigod really isn't a RTS is it?
it is sort of debatable... I'd considering it an Action RTS/RTT game.
Same could be said about Empire: Total War.
It isn't an RTS in the true sense of the word...
2009 does look fantastic on the Strategy game side.
Halo Wars, Dawn of War 2, Starcraft 2, Empire: Total War, Demigod, and whatever else pops up in the next year. 2009 looks very strong on the Strategy game side.

Its DotA which is more of an action RPG. Its a lot of fun lets put it that way.

It blends genre barriers. It is a strategy game though.
But you only control one character, I don't know how that couold be considered an RTS.
Strategy is such a broad term...
It isn't a TRADITIONAL RTS but I'd call it an Action RTS.

only time will tell
Next year looks incredible when it comes to strategy/wargames. Empire:TW, Anno1404 and Jagged Alliance 3 are the ones I'm waiting the most for, but there's also SC2, DoW2, Hearts of Iron 3, Majesty 2, Cities XL, Demigod and Disciples 3.
Insane line-up :)

I think that's true only for Assasin class, demigods who belong in Generals class will play like RTS
Ive never played a Total War game sadly, but this does look very good. I was wondering how much tactics and like strategy planning is involved?EVOLV3
Insane amount....these two words arent even enough to describe it...

still better than shogun total war in 17th centurySTW had naval battles? Oh wait it didnt...
Had it charge and gun physics? Nope? Aaaa
Had it free roaming campaign with no tiles/province battles? Nope?
Oh and tell me who made Shogun?

2009 is going to be the year of the RTS. Can't wait for SC2 and DOW2 personally. I never played the Disciples games.

that's it ? I can find more difference than that between Starcraft 2 and dune 2 also, why does it matter who made it ? Point was whether gameplay is a totally rehashed form of a earlier game or notTrue_Gamer is just an RTT fanboy who seems to think that the RTS genre is simply stuck in 1992 with some minor deviations in gameplay. Of course, it's perfectly okay for the Total War series to have minor changes in the base formula since 2000, but hey, that's his logic. Although, I can't see how someone can say that there are only minor differences between, say, Company of Heroes and Command and Conquer, but fanboy goggles can work wonders.
He also thinks that RTSs are "dumbed down". I don't know about WiC and the Ground Control series, but Sins of a Solar Empire is classified under "RTS" and it's not exactly "dumb" compared to the RTT half of the Total War series. Although, I doubt he cares that much about "intelligent gameplay" because I don't see him praising TBS games that much - which are far more demanding on the mind than any other genre of strategy.
I'll buy Empire even if it comes in 13 separate games, yes, all of them. Empire >>> starcraft. I'm going to get a new computer just for this. Empire is just that much >>> than starcraft!
Ps: starcraft fanboys asked for this.
I don't know it has competition from Halo Wars!
PS3_3DO
I was wishing someone woulden't mention that game.
"listens"
I can hear the fanboys comeing now, RUN FOR THE HILLZ!!
[QUOTE="PS3_3DO"]Do you think on gamespot Halo Wars gets a higher score then Empire Total War?
Wasdie
If that hapens, Halo Wars better freaken reinvent RTSs and evolve how we play them...
I dunno. I mean don't they review games relevant to the platform its on? Empire has alot of competition as well as all the other TW games to compete with. HW could possibly score higher but still be less of a game simply as it has few games on the 360 to compete with.

Core mechanics of most basebuilding resourcecollecting dumbed down pathetic clickfests called "RTS" have NOT changed since 1996...
The same resource grabbing shortcut memorised clickfest....The actual battle troop manipulation is a joke...the from the top camera with tiny soldiers and a pathetic hitpoint system are shouting "we are designed for the iq lvl of a 12 year old"....
I know its sad to admit that Dune2 is like a chronic desease over the genre....because truth hurts...
Well to be fair the world map is a rather big part of TW and it's TBS. And if we wanna split hairs WiC is RTT and Sins RT4X leaving CoH and SupCom as the few big RTS titles that stray away from the Dune2 gameplay.True_Gamer is just an RTT fanboy who seems to think that the RTS genre is simply stuck in 1992 with some minor deviations in gameplay. Nah, I got it right.
EDIT: LOL, I remember you from the Dawn Of War 2 vs Starcraft II graphics :P, I'm a huge Starcraft fan, so no need to be calling me a fanboy D:

I know you've got a superiority complex and you can't seem to admit that other people may prefer different games for reasons other than having brains that aren't so well developed, "TRUE_GAMER", but I suppose it's perfectly alright to those with fanboy goggles if a game keeps the same base gameplay mechanics from 2000 is it, even though we have modern RTSs that have vastly difference gameplay mechanics from RTSs made 10 years ago?
If you think that ALL modern RTSs are "dumb" clickfests, I suggest you start analysing the genre properly. Total War is a great franchise, but I'm not so fanboyish that I think that those who prefer Total War over other games somehow have higher IQs than those who do otherwise. Especially when SOASE is much more demanding on your intellect than the Total War series, and it's more RTS than TW is.

mr_mozilla
The guy seems to like RTTs the most, from what I've seen. He loves WiC and TW, and I haven't seen him saying anything about TBSs like CiV, GalCiV or HoMM whatsoever.
Odd, because what really gives TW the depth and lasting value that it's known for isn't the battles (those are actually incredibly shallow when left on their own) it's the TBS campaign.
