Geez, seems every time I'm away at work I miss some sort of drama. Ah well I see it's been resolved.
[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]Ugh... archetypes. The most desirable females are those who are confident about who they are, and offer a unique personality that doesn't fit into any mold.AdobeArtist
I agree that character complexity is very appealing, buuuuut, since the poll is limited that can't fit every variable of uniqueness possible, and everybody would just say, "I like a mix of this and that, or everything", I had to go with the most common personality themes. That and going by examples actually seen in games, which the poll was about. Not what you like in real women as that would be harder to define, but the most desirable traits seen in actual RPG examples.
The only RPG with a romance path that I played was Tales of Symphonia, and none of the options really fit those archetypes.[QUOTE="AdobeArtist"]Geez, seems every time I'm away at work I miss some sort of drama. Ah well I see it's been resolved.

Are you sure that personality variables aren't based off one of the types I listed as a foundation from which the new layers are built upon?

Colette, yes, but Raine and Sheena weren't particularly sultry or alpha...they were just sort of normal.
But sadly, Symphonia was the last game in the series (at least, last gen) with normal, likeable characters. The girls in Legendia and Abyss were super archetypical.
Here is my vote:
1. Lara Croft
2. Triss Merigold
3. Lightning
4. Catherine
5. Bayonetta
6. Lilith
7. Elika
8. Jill Valentine
Too bad no chicks from the DOA or Soul Calibur series made it. :(
How anyone can vote against Samus ( or when they were still here : Kerrigan, and a few others) is BEYOND ME
dude you just voted against the very sexy sophitia. Here is my vote:
1. Lara Croft
2. Triss Merigold
3. Lightning
4. Catherine
5. Bayonetta
6. Lilith
7. Elika
8. Jill ValentineToo bad no chicks from the DOA or Soul Calibur series made it. :(

Partly because I have nothing better to do right now (and partly because I'm putting off marking summer school essays), I went and added up how the matchups are going. Lara and Samus are predictably blowing away their competition, but the biggest blowout (as of now) is surprisingly Lilith's current annihilation of Kelly "The Human Answering Machine" Chambers.
On the other side of things, Chloe's only up by 2 on Catherine (on my count), and Elena and Jill are deadlocked (Jill was up by 9 until the last couple of pages, so if Elena wins, it'll be a massive comeback effort.
I'm surprised Kelly Chambers made it this far into the voting even though she is just one of ME2's generic NPC character models. Take a look at some of the NPCs in the Omega Plague mission, and you'll see Kelly has quite a few sisters, lol. :PTimstuff
I actually never noticed any Kelly "twins" on Omega. But anyway, I'm sure she's getting her votes from personality. Have you ever really interacted with her? At every chance you get after each mission? She delivers a lot of charm & wit, and always makes more effort to really connect with you than any other character, even the fully romanceable characters.
[QUOTE="Jynxzor"]Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that the "Suprise" for next vote is going to be a wild-card vote of some sorts.UCF_KnightI don't see what the point would be. Any other choice would not be popular enough to have a chance against the top contenders anyway.
So, you people want the answers? ;)
Damn, Lilith is just owning. Who would've thought the last siren would be this far into the tournament?
Jill and Elena battle are neck and neck, next vote could decide it .
Chloe is also winning, which is a surprise, since most people prefer Elena.
Once again, Samus is winning out of blind luck, since her Other M personality failed.
Lara... ehh. She wins, she wins. Doesnt really matter.

Yeah, heaven forbid a video game character is an actual interesting "character" with *gasp* FLAWS
But I don't want to get into another Other M argument, because, honestly, I'm tired of them.
And Samus beating Miranda (for me, the top choice out of the ME games) pretty soundly wouldn't be something I'd call "luck".
Yeah, Samus is my pick to win it all.

I am one of those people who thought Other M ruined Samus's image. Turning her from a bad*** bounty hunter into a helpless teenage girl. And of course Miranda loss, shes Miranda, just a woman who follows "orders".[QUOTE="svetzenlether"]

No, of course not! I just read my last post and it came off pretty harsh. I mean, at the end of the day we're on a message board about video games, and video games are fun.
I always support the idea of humanizing a character, and understand that having vulnerabilities does not make them weak. If anything it adds depth to their character, ultimately making them relateable and genuinely believable. I especially love what they're doing with Lara. In Samus' case howver, while it's great for the character development, the way they try to apply this to the gaming mechanics, where she has all these abilities but can't use them when she really needs them because she wasn't given permission by her superior is absurdly contrived.
Anyway, I know you've all been wondering what new voting rules I have in store for Round 4 that mentiond earlier. And since it starts tomorrow, I'm now going to let you all in on the twist that will shake up the selection process and can make progression into the Finals, anybody's game.
Up till now, every participant has had to vote for each active slot, in the assigned order, and that's mostly going to be the same. You'll still have to type your list from 1-4, with the correct character in each slot. BUT now there are two additional options each user may choose to exercise;
* First, for any ONE character you vote for, you can put a +1 next to their name. You'll be able to give an extra vote to the lady of your choice. So yes that will tally as not just 1, but TWO votes for that particular character.
* The other twist is that this time, you now CAN opt out of voting for one, and only ONE, of the 4 slots, so neither character need be voted by you. The rule was originally in place when there were so many characters and sufficient figures were needed to assure there would be a determined progression to the next round. But now that the list will be filtered down from the original 64 to 8, 8 that are the top most already votd for ladies, I figure it's highly unlikely everybody will non-vote for the same slot. And just to keep this all offical in the process, don't just leave that number blank, put in the word 'VOID' to indicate that this is your actual choice in exersizing this option and not just an accidentially missed spot.
Also understand that both these options are just that, options. You may choose the double vote but can still give a regular vote to the other 3 slots if you want. you don't have to non-vote one if you don't want to. Same with the double vote (though I can't imagine anybody will pass up that opportunity :P ) I'll even show a example of how a typical ballot may look;
1. Kasumi +1
2. Aya Brae
3. VOID
4. Liara
** note that I used already eliminated characters in the example so as not to make any presumtions as to who will actually make it into Round 4 starting tomorrow.
And there you have it. The Semi-Finals are sure to be the most intense round yet in this contest. I can hardly wait!! :D :D :D

Adobe, I like the ideas, but not seperately. They should be together, ie. you can double vote but if you do that you HAVE to void one of your other votes.
Adbobe, I believe in the "one character, one vote" principle so I do not agree with the new rules. I will vote in the next round as I always do.

I'm going to keep it this way. It'll be interesting now that voting will be a bit more uneven and varied.

That is your prerogative, but for people who have a particular favourite, they now have an opportunity to give her a boost. And since everybody can do this, it may turn out to be a more or less even spread as each character is expected to get a certain measure of extra voting, or the results may be wildly unpredictable, that will make the road to the finals even more exciting :)

Do you expect any blow-outs as the result of the new voting rules? And will you be revising the Level 5 voting requirement, even though I have not seen that many low-level-low-post users voting.[QUOTE="AdobeArtist"]

And will you be revising the Level 5 voting requirement, even though I have not seen that many low-level-low-post users voting.Since the whole point of the new rules is to add that "wild card" element to the voting, no way I can say what to expect. For now the level 5 requirement remains in effect. The only time that will be "lifted" is in the Final Round, where at that point down to the remaining 4, I'll simply be able to use the forum poll system, and won't have to do any more manual counting (whew :) ).
