Switch breaks past 10 million sold through! Will it now stop selling as many warriors claimed?

I knew they'd be past 10 million shipped by now, but it's good to see it's past 10 million sold as well! It could very well pass Wii U by the end of the year.

As of December 10th, worldwide life-to-date sell-through for Nintendo Switch, which launched on March 3, 2017, has surpassed 10 million units *.

How does it's sales compare to past Nintendo Handhelds? Wouldn't be surprised if it's trending less then'em. :P

Switch is a hybrid.

The thing cost $300 so I'd say for the consumer market it's considered more console than handheld.

It's it's 10M in less than one years time so that's pretty good.

It's been way ahead of 3DS's launch year everywhere except Japan (due to lack of stock), even after the price cut. DS actually had a slow start so it's not comparable. Same goes for Game Boy. GBA should be ahead though.

Switch will definitely sell well, well over 1.4 million units worldwide this month, so it's trending higher than 3DS.

It's a portable device like many that can also be displayed on a TV does not a Hybrid make. Just mooaaar of the same "N" marketing gimmick is all. Just sayin. :P

Nintendo deserves their success as long as they keep releasing high quality games. Its healthy for the industry

Now MS should learn a thing or two about the importance of real exclusives... they DO sell consoles, saying otherwise is just naive

The real question is, why isn't he asking to compare it to Xbone? Oh, wait. :) And PS4 sold 10 million in 9 months as well, though in that case it was just under 9 months while Switch did it either in exactly 9 months or just over.

Xbox one X will be lucky to get PSVR numbers by the time PS5 comes out, the Switch and Mario effectively killed all of the X's 4k hype.

MS should have never challenged Nintendo by launching their new hardware in the same time period as a new Mario release with no games. Briliant move MS!

Should have took a clue from Sony as they kind of just sat holding all AAA releases outside of GTSport.

Sony: "So MS are actually going ahead and releasing their new hardware during an official New Mario release with no AAA games of their own?

...okay, we're not in this fight! We'll release GTSport to go against Forza 7 and that's it, let's see how this turns out for MS."

LMAO.. kidding aside switch will be fine its a nintendo hardware with no major flaw. It will keep going as long as nintendo keeps pumping out great exclusives. I want to say new gen consoles will slow it down but, as a hybrid it will just coalesce with the handheld market. Its got a huge market in front of it.

Discounts come every holiday season, that's nothing new or special since the base PS4 is 4 years old now.

For reference MS had base Xbox one S deals for $189 and packed with a game while PS4's were just $199.

So yes, Sony was sitting back because they didn't challenge Nintendo with any high profile releases at the time when most people do their holiday shopping.

Here’s why it will stop selling: It costs too much to make and Nintendo won’t sell them at a loss. The switch will never drop down in price. Wii u never dropped down in 4 years and the switch is MORE expensive.

Boom. That is why after the hardcore Nintendo fanboys get their consoles it will bomb in sales.

So, fun fact: The more something sells, the less it'll cost to produce over time. It's a bit more complicated than just that of course, but the point is that Wii U sold so poorly that its production cost never dropped much. On top of that, it was selling so poorly that a price drop wouldn't help much and would likely cost them even more money. Switch on the other hand is selling so well that Nintendo needed to keep increasing production capacity, which results in the cost per unit dropping rapidly. In fact, it's been dropping so rapidly, combined with a great software attach rate, that they were willing to give up some profit to ship them faster.

TL;DR version: Wii U didn't get price cuts because it wasn't worth it. Switch will get price cuts because it'll ultimately lead to more profit.

I don't see how an old chip, 720p screen and a plastic dock cost too much. Hell the most expensive component might even be the joy cons or the battery. And tech almost always goes down in initial cost and...and this post is nonsense lol

Now to the additional 25 million to match my predition of lifetime sales. Not ruling out 40 - 45 million, but as good as 3DS ain't happening.
