I wouldn't really recommend pc gaming if you are thatcomputer illiterate.. Errors and game crashes are almost inevitable, and you'll need to fix them. It's not like console gaming in that aspect.

I would recommend it still, but I would not recommend going all out.
I've seen lifetime console gamers on online forums arguing that the only way they'll begin PC gaming is if they go all out on their system.
All I ever think to myself is buyers remorse.
PC gaming is somewhat of a hobby-of-passion. You dip your toes in at first, and if you like it then you gradually build from there. Once you understand what games you like, and what upcoming games look interesting, you decide from there where to take your system.
As for me I'm still using a $600 PC from 2009. I'm not all the interested in many of the high-end PC titles, and as a result I saved myself hundreds of dollars over building a computer that could max out games like Crysis, and BF3.
Though I know some people have different circumstances than me. My first PC I gamed on was just a store-bought PC in the 1990's that could play Warcraft and Command and Conquer. From there I got Half Life, and all the multiplayer goodness of that game. In 2005ish I spent $400 on my first custom-PC in order to play WoW, and then $600 a few years later to play some of this gen's games like The Orange Box, The Witcher, Borderlands, etc.
Currently I'm playing Dungeon Siege, a game from 2002, and soon afterwards I will probably play Total Annihilation (1997) which I just bought. Earlier this year I played through Warcraft 1 and 2, and occasionally played TF2, Killing Floor, and CS:GO. None of these games demands a high-end PC
tl;dr
Point is go into PC gaming knowing what you want. As a novice I'd definitely start off low-end. You can easily get help from people on the PC forum, or from people in this thread on how to build a PC, and what to look for when building one.
