Jesus, how does Witcher 3 have almost have the votes? How does Witcher 3 even get to go up against Chrono Trigger? WHAT THE HELL GUYZ?

Man I actually enjoyed that though. The fucking man tears over at GameFaqs were unreal. I spent an afternoon just reading the various threads of OoT fans losing their shit.

Entertainment at its finest, I don't expect any similar meltdowns here.

Well for starters Chrono Trigger has much better combat mechanics then any Witcher game ever had. Even though The Witcher 3 is indeed a great game, its insanely overrated. There is absolutely no way it is the best wrpg of all time. As for Chrono Trigger, even though for me personally it is far from being the best JRPG ever I can understand why it is for some people.

It really is not suprising , most people in System wars most likely did not even touch Chorno Trigger. It is very clear from the "best wrpg ever" poll that most people here started playing videogames very recently.

Kinda fishy. Out of nowhere it started going up a percent with each refresh, then it just stopped.

Could just be a bunch of TW3 fans making the morning rounds and casting a vote of course, but the pace was funny to see.

@quakeknight1991: It's the sudden spike in TW3's votes that surprises me. An hour ago CT was at 62% and all was well with the world. I come back online and BOOM, shit's about to hit the fan.

Completely agree here. Sometimes gamers over do it on the nostalgia front ( including me that i still believe Blood is the best fps game )

So it is Witcher 3 for me as well. I mean i loved my fallout 1 my Diablo 1 and 2 but i still think Witcher 3 is the best game . Will my opinion in 5-6 years after the initial impressions of W3 are gone change? Maybe but for now the excellent storytelling, characters, visually appealing world ,a decent combat system and a great OST make Witcher the best rpg i have played

To be fair to CT though i dont really like JRPG's that much and the 4-5hours i played CT probably didint do it any justice

The fact that W3 is currently winning doesn't take into consideration a variety of factors. Many probably haven't played CT, and even if many have, it's difficult to equate CT's impact and accomplishments today against when it was released, whereas W3 relatively just came out.

You can't blame people for voting by the biases that their time and circumstances have imposed. Just the same for those of us who grew up with CT, as quality as it may be, we are nevertheless viewing it through a heavy lens of nostalgia and many other elements that we're not even conscious of.

I wouldn't lose faith in the forum, I would just recognize the results of this poll for what they truly represent.

Witcher 3- amazing writing, full of deep and interesting characters, fun combat, fantastic! music, beautiful open world. The only downside is the mediocre main story, which is the reason why it isn't my all-time favourite rpg. Still better than any jrpg I ever played.

I never played Chrono Trigger and my friend keeps on telling me to play it.

I really liked The Witcher 3, so you know what I voted for.

Disagree with those who say that praising old games = nostalgia. A lot of people still play old games, and still love them after replaying them. They experience the game again instead of just having these so called "memories" of them..

Some play them for the first time after several years of their release and still prefer them over some of the new games.

This nostalgia theory fails 95% of the time. Yes, sometimes there are cases of nostalgia, but mostly this is just a bad way to downplay something.

What is there to believe ? Even though its true that the Witcher series has improved their combat mechanics with each game, the witcher 3 still has very shallow combat mechanics with very little variety and options. You can literally beat everything in the game by just mindlessly using quen sign and spamming fast attack.

Well it goes the other way around also. There are a lot of people that say those who praise Witcher are kids and new gamers and the rest of them did it because W3 impressions are still fresh and the whole amazement will go away with time. A lot of people including me have been playing games for decades including playing countless great RPG's from the past ( baldurs gate, Diablo , fallout 1 and 2 and the list goes on ) yet the Witcher 3 felt like an equal or even a better game even if you dont factor the amazing graphics. Storytelling, characters, OST are top notch in W3. Add to that imo the most compelling video game world i have witness in a game and W3 stands up there with the best of all time

I'm not done with The Witcher 3 yet, not even close, but I know my vote has to go to Chrono Trigger.

The charm and the simplicity push it over for me. I first played the game on DS and really enjoyed it. It's not one of my favorites of all time or anything, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Bleh, it seems there was a similar thread about The Last Of Us after it's mad praise, that thing was unstoppable in polls for months. Couple of years later it's an aiight game according to this forum. The fact this is being compared to a 20+ year old game says alot about the quality of that 20+ yo game.

@bobrossperm: there is a big difference, last of us had a much small audience and last for a few months.

It's nearly a full year for Witcher 3

The "honeymoon period" argument is a little overstated here and frankly lazy. When it comes to genres like RPGs, technology matters.

The Witcher 3 is the culmination of years of progress. It's RPG elements are not as deep as some games but in terms of the world created and the scale of pretty much everything it deserves its place at the very top of the tree, simply because we can now do things we couldn't dream of before.

I know there will be froth mouthed imbeciles insisting that the game is utter trash because everything that doesn't meet their very specific approval is the worst thing ever but I don't care about these people. The facts are this game has the approval of many and it deserves it.

Did Chrono trigger not have a honeymoon period? And what about after that?

The Last of Us has sold more than 11 million units on PS3 and PS4. It's still selling well today due to word of mouth. I don't expect The Witcher 3 to come close to those sales numbers. Potential audience means nothing, who plays it means much more.

Voted Chrono Trigger, it's one of those games that I'd never get tired of coming back to while with The Witcher 3 I'm done after a playthrough (and the DLC of course).
