I agree. Had a friend of mine complain because it took more than 30 minutes to download something like 3 gigs or so. I mean really? You couldnt go outside? And most people it takes them 10hrs+ to download 3 gigs.Whats infuriarating is installing a game on a PC, using up valuable hard drive space, then still having to look for the disc to play... And if its a game you know will be patched in the future, you may get boned for using a no-disc "3rd party patch"
I installed oblivion on my 360 to see the loading time difference. Interestingly enough I didn't notice one, not even while running through the countryside and whatnot, I actually found it kind of perplexing. It did make the console quieter though with no disc spinning.
Takes about 15 seconds to change a disc, how long to PS3 installs take... exactly!

Ok... we got it, you're defending future games with multiple disks which are coming out on a certain console!!
Personally i dont mind installs in the same way i dont mind swapping disks...
Taking a few minutes to install a game ONCE is far better than getting up semi-regularly to change a disc. Your logic is flawed.
Other than MGS4, you only have to install at the very start - before you play. So what is your point? Everyone that thinks TC has no point raise your hand please. *raises hand*. Fail Thread might i add. You install games onto the PC, why don't they just make it streaming off the disc all the time.Takes about 15 seconds to change a disc, how long to PS3 installs take... exactly!

Its not so much the effort of finding the disc that bothers me, its that its taking up disk space. Now I realize PC disk space is dirt cheap, that aint the issue. My objections are on the principal. Every single bit of coding on that disk is now on my harddrive. In fact they had to add EXTRA coding just to ensure I gotta go looking for the disc that contains no more coding than the coding just transferred from said disk to harddrive. See it sounds ridiculous, but thats pirating, and DRM for ya.
oh im sorry did this thread segway into fun games? i missed the transition. You know, thread hijacking is quite rude.

Yes but how much time do you gain from installing? That's the real question and too bad I dont have an answer so I guess I gotta agree with ya.
I am not surprised to see people defending mandatory installs but it is one of the worst features of the PS3. The reason it is done is because of how slow the Blu-ray drive is, so Sony has once again managed to take their inefficienes and turn it around as a "positive" for the system.

Uncharted has no install and no load screens. According to the rules of logic giving an example of the contrary of some claim, invalidates the claim. You'll have to try again.
Takes longer to go the university driving my car than it does riding a bike , when the traffic is intense. You get my point ;)
[QUOTE="super_star98789"]I have siblings, losing disc 3 of a game really pisses me off. For this reason I would rather have installs, even 3hr installs, than a game that comes on multiple discs. If they had an option for buying a single disc at a fraction of the price, I would have no problem with multi-disc games.I still don't understand this arguement... So your siblings lost disc 3 for one of your games, essentially making it unplayable.Takes about 15 seconds to change a disc, how long to PS3 installs take... exactly!

But aren't you in exactly the same position if they lose the disc for a 1-disc game? Either way, you can't play it.
So you've found the smallest thing to complain about? Gratz...Takes about 15 seconds to change a disc, how long to PS3 installs take... exactly!

Blu-Ray is slow!
its the size that counts though
I could change more than 50 discs in the collective time it takes MGS4 to install, and that's just on one playthrough. Neither are ideal, but it's pretty pathetic that people still argue that PS3 installs somehow "save time" when it's quite the opposite. PS3 installs don't make standard loading faster, they make slower loading standard.cutmaclass1
MSG4 is an exception to the rule (I'm not sure how Kojima screwed it up so badly, Uncharted and Batman:AA have virtually no loading), generally installs save time.
12x DVD-ROM: ~8-16MBps
2x BD-ROM: ~8MBps
5400RPM HDD: ~30MBps
1 time install > many disc changes
Sword-Demon
Oh, I didn't know MGS4 only had ONE 15 second install. Interesting.
you install it once and your done... exactly!!Takes about 15 seconds to change a disc, how long to PS3 installs take... exactly!
