Team Fortress 2 = Best Online Shooter this Generation

Really, it's the only multiplayer FPS that seamlessly combines skill, gameplay, and visuals (I'm talking about the artistic assets, because the game itself has really crappy graphics). The only contenders I can think of are CoD4 and Halo 3, both of which take no skill whatsoever to play (inb4 "bbbbuuutttt MLG"; aim assist=noobfest). Halo 3 is less noobish than CoD4, but still noobish nonetheless.

Then there are games like Arma, STALKER and Killzone 2 that take skill to play and are interesting, but IMO they don't come near TF2.

What game do you think is the best online shooter this gen?

Pfft TF2 is fun, but it's hardly a game you need skill in. Most of the weapons are extremely easy to use and barely requires aiming because there's no recoil or there's splash damage. I'd say Halo 3 requires alot more skill than TF2. That's my experience anyways.

tf2 is one of the best games this gen. imo

TF2. Not only because it's fun to play, but it also has an original art style with a lot of personality.

There's no recoil in Halo either. :|

The crosshair doesn't even move, they just animate the weapons to act like they have recoil.

TF2 by far,

Team Fortress 2 no contest. It's got style, awesome, blood, gore.. and it's so damn hilarious!

Team Fortress 2 by far, during the summer I played it for at least two hours daily! NO other game sucked me in like TF2. Heavy FTW!

Play the Soldier well then come back. You need to learn how to do aerials (also called airshots), juggle, keeping the height advantage, proper rocket jumping, learning when to reload and not to fire all of your rockets, the right time to pull out of a battle, who's a Spy and who is not, predicting where someone is going to hit them with a rocket (even more so if you juggle them as you will never always pop them straight up).

Arma 2.

It definitely is to me, but that not saying much lol, since I only play a couple Wii FPS online, Metroid Prime Hunters, Battlefield Heroes, and Resistance PSP this gen. But TF2 is so much fun anyway, and is my 2nd favorite FPS.

Counter Strike & Killzone 2 are my favorite games online..

After 200 or so hours of TF2 on the PC I think I can safely say that Halo 3 beats it, and it does. Playtime is higher, the community is better (bungie.net), the reviews are higher, and it's so SO much more competitive online especially in MLG.

No L4D? Are you joking me right now? I lost interest in TF2 after awhile, but it was really fun.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Go play some CS 1.6 (even Source has more skill than TF2) or quake then talk about how "pro" you have to be to be a soldier. Seriously, go right now and play some quake live, it's free, and you'll get your ass kicked.

Random crits, bugs all the time (I seriously failed half my backstabs yesterday, but that's actually been a common spy problem forEVER!!!!!! :evil: ), and just it's not anywhere near as good as the first one. The community sucks because like you said they don't have to learn techniques, or maps. You just hop in, and lol crit.

No online FPS comes close to TF2 this gen. I think CS:S is better, but that is last gen (I think). Also, it doesn't have crappy graphics. :|

Well I refused to vote between Team Fortress 2 or Call of Duty 4. I like both games equally, Call of Duty 4 was more addictive with the upgrading and leveling up but it wore off a little quicker than Team Fortress 2 because there was a lot more that I could in in TF2 and there were waaay more updates compared to COD4 so it had longer legs. In the end they sort of cancel each other out making them both equally awesome. Halo 3 has quality but not in the same class as these two shooters, in my humble opinion of course.
