But haven't many Japanese developers stated that they NEED to focus on more western oriented games?

Because they have the Japanese side covered already :P To make more money, always need to expand. Its no different than what Microsoft has been trying and yet failing to do in Japan.[QUOTE="slantedandencha"]the only place anyone seems to be concentrating, or even caring at all, about the japanese market is on these boards.foxhound_foxYou and others might be surprised. In terms of the number of developers, the US does outclass everybody else.
The US currently has 622 video game developers, while Japan, the next highest, has 309.
And, the US is the largest gaming market...but that certainly doesn't exclude the importance of Japan.
But haven't many Japanese developers stated that they NEED to focus on more western oriented games?HeirrenWell yeah, because then they would expand their market a bit more.

a bit more? don't you think you're understating that a bit?

And yet, when you include handhelds ..[QUOTE="Basinboy"]

Agreed. Nintendo lost its golden glory, Square cannot live up to it again anymore, Capcom and Konami are struggling to sell anything anymore, the only light in the darkness is From Software.
And Platinum Games, which is basically a compendium of incredible talent. And Atlus.. then there's Monolith Soft.
You have got to be kidding!? I am so excited for a lot of these games. Secret World, Tales of Graces F, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Innocence R, FFXIII-2, FF VS XIII, Paper Mario, Super Mario Land 3D, Mario Kart, Skyward Sword, FF Type-o, Resident Evil Revelations, Beyond the Labyrinth, Gravity Daze, Bravely Default...need I go on?
I have a feeling the 3DS and Vita will give me the JRPG experience I have been lacking this gen. While the DS had some great ones (didnt play that many), I cant help but prefer 3D JRPG's, and Bravely Default among many others look great.
Sounds like you need to buy more JRPGs for your PS3, its looks like its starving :PYou have got to be kidding!? I am so excited for a lot of these games. Nintendo didn't lose anything, I would go as far as to say they are getting even stronger with their development.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Dude, that game is a ways off. I don't think we'll be seeing much of that game anytime soon. But Itagaki said the game would be at TGS... :(What I want to know is, where the f*** is Devil's Third?
AcidSoldner
it isn't dead... just isn't the big fish in the ocean anymore... Europe and America are taking over, Japan needs to step it up.

i agree about platinum games. Bayonetta and Vanquish are two of my fav games this gen.[QUOTE="AcidSoldner"][QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Dude, that game is a ways off. Well I have not seen many JRPG's this gen (on consoles) that appeal to me. I loved Tales of Vesperia, but many of the others are low budget or strategy ones that probably are not my style. I just bought FF XIII, which I hope I dont regret :P. I have heard some bad things, but XIII-2 looks pretty awesome from what I know, so I figured for 13 bucks I would give XIII a shot.
Fact: Japanese gaming is dead because they don't make enough shooters.
Big_Pecks
that American like more Shooters while Japanese want to change style/genres of games to play it than sticking to same genre to play that is a fact....
or the blockbuster news? Qwark-PS-Snake
Blockbuster news? Seriously?
An amazing game doesn't need to have high production values, be a shooter and get covered by western media.

Yes which is why SMG was GOTY 2007 and SMG2 got a 10.[QUOTE="Basinboy"]

and Atlus...and Monolith SoftNot really, they just aren't making games many gamers in the West are interested in. I personally am excited for a ton of games on the 3DS and Vita. Play Western developed games if you aren't interested in what Japanese developers are producing, problem solved. I don't live in Japan but I doubt they're whining about Western developers not making games they want.FlamesOfGrey
well said. Just cause you dont like the type of games jpn make doesint mean its dieing. It means you dont like it.
[QUOTE="kuraimen"]
I think the japanese game industry is better than the western one. Although the western one has its fair share of gems but too many copy-pasted shooters.
They can even make a shooter better than the west: Vanquish
slantedandencha
i'm playing vanquish right now...while enjoyable, it's a cheap imitation of gears. can't even hold a candle to it.
I think it made everything Gears wanted to be better.[QUOTE="siLVURcross"]I dunno, I saw a lot of games I'm interested in.Messiahbolical-Based on your sig and avatar alone, my instinct points to you being a weaboo/"Japanophile" anyways... so why am I not surprised that there's a lot of Japanese games you're interested in.
Was that at all necessary? :|
You don't even know the culture of the person you're talking to. He/she could very well be Japanese. I don't know why you feel name calling and insult slinging is necessary but I suggest you knock it off, its uncalled.
The majority of games I buy on consoles and handhelds are Japanese. They still make the best games. Granted, they are not as good as they used to be, but Valkyria Chronicles, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy 1&2, DKCR, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Bayonetta have all been among the best console games this gen (I also loved The Last Remnant, but played it on PC). PurpleMan5000Just a quick correction, DKCR was made by a western studio(Retro).:P
