Since Epic's shooter was supposed to be the next big thing, I went along with it, and REALLY tried to love it. There are great things about Gears...mainly in the graphics department. However, the vast plethora of problems that can be found on that disk is just...unacceptable. I will give you a break down of what is wrong with the single, and multiplayer.

Single Player: Short, easy, and glitch ridden. Ones that can kill your progress in a level, and other annoying bugs, and bizarre glitches. Why? It was in production for almost three years! The story is totally terrible, it takes useless twists and turns, and still manages to a second thought. The characters are pretty generic (the exception being Dom). Every line out of Cole's mouth made me want to shut my console off. The unexciting cliff hanger found at the end isn't very desireable either...

Multiplayer: When people complain about the bullet lag...they arn't lying. The host advantage is very real as well. It makes things constantly unbalanced, and frustraiting. The modes seen here are basically identical...the exception being Annex. Again...glitches, glitches, glitches, and cheating to boot. There really isn't a single match where you JUST have a good game, or a good time.

Man, what a trainwreak of a game. :(

Thanks for your input and thoughtful analysis. Maybe some day when you grow up you can be a game developer and put out the quality games we all deserve.

You read my mind, Epic screwed up major with online. Not that its not good, no far from it, Gears is the best game of 2006 and has the best multiplayer. But the online has major flaws after you get through everything.

It's not that bad. If it were as bad of a game as you said it wouldn't have gotten as high of score as it did. Sure there are minor problems with the game that Epic has been fixing with each update. But yes you are right about some of the rediculous glitches there are some very annoying glitches in the game. But it's an above average shooter with some excellent things about it. Active reload, the advanced cover system is something that a lot of games are starting to use. There are a lot of great things about Gears of War and it's not anywhere near as bad as what you just said.

Well not all opinions can be right. Such as yours on this particular topic.

And what kinda of stuff is that when you said you wanted to like it, you either like it or you don't.

I think you don't know what you want and you are punishing us for it.

Gears could have been so much more if there had been attention payed to things like story and character development... but no, Epic decided it just wanted to deliver a casual action-fest to satiate the palates of the casual 360 gamers. The story had so much potential and yet they hardly ever explained ANYTHING. If Epic had spent another year expanding and polishing the game I think it could have been so much better, I myself find it hard to believe that it scored a 9.6 GOTY here on GS.

I'm sorry, did I miss the story line? Did I miss the fact that you have to refrence to the manual to understand whats going on? The pile of rocks that you can walk through and can't get out? My bad.

Yeah the host advantage really takes away a lot of fun from Warzone and Execution. It's not as noticable in Annex when the focus isn't on killing everyone as much as it is on capturing the rings.

Because I've played through the campaign countless times and almost never had a problem.

Sure the story is lame, but who buys Gears and expects a superb story.

The fact is that the game is refreshing and fun and addicting. Those are some of the main reasons I play games.

So? Halo is a trilogy, and it had a story that managed to be engaging both in Combat Evolved, and it's sequel...dispite the vendetta against Halo 2's story.

Also, those who complain about host just suck and use it as something to complain about or as an excuse for losing.

There is hardly any cheating that goes on in Gears, and those who do are easily suspended from XBL.

Let me count the ways...

¬ My friend dissappeared three times in co-op.

¬ The beserker got stuck in one of the smashable pillars...twice. Both times I had to restart the game because I coulden't get that piece of crap out.

¬ My friend said my lancer was making pistol shooting noises in co-op.

¬ Sometimes when I would enter aim mode, a arc redicle would span out from my gun, liek I was about to throw a granade...

¬ I fell right through the floor, and into a white abyss in Act one.

¬ The music sometimes won't stop playing, the loop will just continue and continue...

Also, I WAS especting an amazing story line. Why? Because Epic promiced me a heart wrenching tale of one mans redemption. Yeah, never got that. :|

I believe you all the way for online, I watched my friend playing online, and this dude was trying to chainsaw him, he sidestepped him, and you can see the guy is chainsawing the air, but my friend's screen got the gore effect and everything. I can't help but notice the online is not consistent, it's fun, don;t get me wrong, but its inconsistent.

- I never had a friend disappear in co-op. And I guarantee I've played much more of it than you.

- Never had that happen...

- a lancer making pistol noises? not game-altering

- the nade arc reticule happens every now and then but you can get rid of that problem in a second

- never had that happen. maybe you were over an emergence hole?

- never had a music loop problem...

I wasn't expecting an amazing storyline and still had a blast playing through it and playing through it some more with several friends...

And the multiplayer was addicting and fun enough for me to get a world rank of 200 and 20K kills...

Gears is fun and refreshing. Just my opinion..

Yes it does when you get into more hardcore matches.

Four-shot cross map BR.

Instant melee.

Godly shotgun.

No false shots.

Explosion bounce.

I've played Halo 2 for over 10,000 hours and have over 300k kills in it overall and I've played Gears for a ridiculous amount as well. Halo's host advantage is just as bad.

I might start playing Gears again if they added something like R6's coop terrorist hunt mode. That'd be awesome, 8 players against an army of Locusts, Beserkers, Kryll, Boomers, and Wretches.

I barely ever hosted in Gears and have about a 2.0 kill/death ratio.

Sure Gears has a bad host advantage, but so does Halo.

And it isn't even as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Yes it does when you get into more hardcore matches.

Four-shot cross map BR.

Instant melee.

Godly shotgun.

No false shots.

Explosion bounce.

I've played Halo 2 for over 10,000 hours and have over 500k kills in it overall and I've played Gears for a ridiculous amount as well. Halo's host advantage is just as bad.

THETRUEDOZAH

Sorry but no, it just isn't. When i host games in Gears, i automatically win. Every time. And dont say "you must be playing against people who suck" because EVERYONE doesn't suck. Bullet lag, glitches, and host advantage are atrocious on Gears of War. And epic have done nothing about it.

I barely ever hosted in Gears and have about a 2.0 kill/death ratio.

Sure Gears has a bad host advantage, but so does Halo.

And it isn't even as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

I've have to throw my hat in this ring and say yes, yes it is. I'd never heard of or noticed host advantage in any game before Gears, it's just so obvious that when one player racks up twice as many kills as anyone else, they're the host.

I think Gears is tremendously overrated. Fanboys hold it up like some kind of holy grail for the 360, when I honestly haven't played it in a long time because the glitches and host advantage took all the fun away. Meanwhile Epic does all these stupid patches to make your guy stick to the walls or whatever, WHY DON'T YOU FIX THE #(%*#$)@ GLITCHES EPIC!!! then try to rip us off with all the DLC, but first fix your broken game you #$(#)@&#$s!

I've heard complaints about "host" in Halo every day and I still do.

I love Gears. It made it to my top 10 list.slothboyadvance

I agree, the story was solid, but the gameplay owned. I still play it with friends.

Bullet lag and host advantage are big, blatant problems. Fact. To say otherwise is to be in denial. To compare host advantage on Gears to halo is beyond my comprehension.

Some of the lemmings in this topic are simply mad because Gears is being ported to the PC >_>

well, I never noticed it. The host advantage in Gears simply could not be ignored, though. It's too obvious.

THETRUEDOZAH

It's obvious but doesn't make the host superhuman and impossible to kill.

Because you are a noob to Halo?

Trust me. When you get to harder matches in Halo the host advantage is ridiculous.

And once again, the host on Gears is there and is obvious, but it doesn't make the host a crazy superhuman.

I can't count how many times I was called host in Gears when I wasn't. It is an excuse and isn't a reason to dislike the multiplayer. Just like Halo.

If you're already good at the game, you are pretty much unstoppable if you're on host. You're no easier or harder to kill, but it is so much easier for you to kill everyone else. Like i said, if i host a match, i win. Always.

No, i'm not a noob. And stop throwing around "but i'm teh hardcore!" as if that somehow elevates your opinion over everybody else's. I dont care about "the harder matches..." or "the hardcore players." I played Halo every day for years and loved it. In gears, i win every time i host. Therefore, as far as i'm concerned, Gears is much worse than Halo in terms of host advantage.

Just like Halo. :)

Do you host by yourself?
