I play while charging my controller via USB cable at the SAME TIME.
Mind blowing, I know.
Yea, who would've thought people would want to play with a WIRELESS controller if they can just plug it in?
Who would have thought if wanting to play with a wireless controller you may have to charge it at some point? Here is a novel idea, maybe connect your controller to a usb source, possibly a cable box that stays on all the time, and guess what, when your ready to play your wireless controller will be fully charged. :) No battery's, no battery packs, no wires, just a little prior planning is needed. Only fault of pss poor prior planning lands square into your lap, no one elses OP.Does this gen of gamers just suck in general at using controllers?
I had a PS1 and PS2 but bought a X360 about 3 or 4 years ago. I had no problem whatsoever with the new controller despite never having played on the original Xbox. I recently used the Dual Shock controller for the first time in years (having recently bought a Ps3) and yet again had no problem going back to the Dual Shock.
Do you guys have deformed thumbs or something?
The triggers are vastly superior on the 360 controller. But I do think the front shoulder buttons are better on the PS3. They can be tapped much more rapidly which is needed for some games like Infamous and Pixel Junk Shooter. About the d-pads, they both suck. Nintendo got the d-pad right 20 years ago. Why is that the thing that is most troublesome about the modern controllers?
The main reason the analogue is where it is, is mostly for copyright issues with Sony, Sony did it first and wouldn't want anyone copying so MS switched places with them and kinda went "That'll do" You're just used to the xbox controller and angry because you had to wait to pway your wittle game... "The controller is 50% of what makes any console enjoyable to use, and Sony really dropped the ball in this aspect." - hahahaha!! Is this serious? You really never noticed it was the same controller as the first 2 Playstations? If so then it's pretty much your own fault for buying a PS3 and then going "Duh... its the same controller, me no like!" You get this upset and go create rant threads do you? Just enjoy the game please... They both have ups and downs but i'm more used to my PS3 controller and as it's lighter and doesnt use cheap and heavy batteries to power it i vote for PS3.
yah I also hate the stupid l1/l2 and r1/r2 triggers, I always confuse them and its really annoying to have to look at the controller to figure it out. The xbox 360 controller IS better without a doubt. It feels so natural.
You can't figure out 2 buttons and two triggers? Its identical to the xbox's layout except they look a bit different, thats it basically... Still it's your preference and the xbox controller aint exactly bad, i use it afterall but i dont making rant threads like TC :Pyah I also hate the stupid l1/l2 and r1/r2 triggers, I always confuse them and its really annoying to have to look at the controller to figure it out. Gone for two days, thought this thread would be dead by now. My longest to date, hooray for me.
Well, I've said my peace, a tad angrily I suppose, but I was pissed at the time of the OP. I still do think the 360 is vastly superior to the DS3. OK, the DS3 doesn't SUCK, but I cannot agree it's the "perfect" controller as some are suggesting....nothing's perfect, and to go three generations on with minimal to no overall design changes irks me. I will expect the same for the PS4, even the PS5.
As for my "big fat manly American hands" comment, I didn't mean to stereotype all Asians and insinuate that all of them have tiny hands, I've just generally found that to be the case with many I've met (not all). My apologies to anyone I offended, that was not my intention.
Thanks for all the replies.
I bounce between Wii, 360, PS3 and PC quite frequently and have no trouble getting used to the controls. In fact, I find the minor differences a nice change of pace, especially on the Wii. Except I always get screwed up if there's a on-screen prompt to hit X, since they're two different buttons on the PS3 and 360 controller. If I played a lot of one console recently, I find myself hitting the wrong X until I get back in the swing of things.Does this gen of gamers just suck in general at using controllers?

The PS3 controller isn't perfect, but so isn't the XB360 controller. The d-pad and analog placement are terrible in the XB360 controller.lusitanogamerThis is probably the most accurate answer thus far.
I'm just making this post because I'm quite honestly sick of Sony's BS. Their controller sucks. Face it, it sucks. I powered on my PS3 today, feeling up to playing some UC 2 and Heavy Rain. What am I greeted with instead? A dead controller. Great. I haven't used my system in a while, so I'm going to have wait two hours for it to charge, unless I want to sit two feet away from the PS3 while playing as it's connected to the USB cable. With my 360, I have two rechargeable paks so one is always available should the other die.
You can play while its plugged in.... if you don't like it, go buy a generic one. My controller takes 30 minutes to charge to full bars.
This isn't even mentioning the overall design of the controllers. The PS3's is THREE. GENERATIONS. OLD. Their stubborn insistence on using such an archaic and outdated interface drives me up the wall. I do not have tiny Japanese hands, I have big fat manly American ones. The L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons are terrible. The PS3's analog's concurve shape makes slip ups more common than the 360's concave nubs. The 360 fits more comfortably in the hands. It has a decent heft, and the triggers are better.
The Xbox controller is the same as the last generation, besides the fact that 2 buttons were added and 2 were moved...
EVERYTHING about it is more competently designed and thought out than Sony's offering. Someone point out to me something the Dualshock does better, because I sure can't see it. The 360's is so much better, in fact, that whenever a multi-plat game comes out, I'll always grab the 360 version first, even if the PS3 is superior or has some exclusive DLC. The controller is 50% of what makes any console enjoyable to use, and Sony really dropped the ball in this aspect. Anyone else agree?
/Rant.

the only issues with the ds3 are he crappy triggers and that the sony controller was designed for an age without analog sticks.
the d-pad is in the place that a decade ago controlled all onscreen movement and is horridly outdated in terms of ergonomics.
swap the left stick and d-pad and boom problem solved.

Why it had the best controller last gen till they shrunk it. I personally liked it but I am a adult and a tall one at that.
There are some 3rd party controller that allows you to do that. Also, I have NEVER understood why people prefer the weird analog placement of the 360 controller. My hands are symmetric. My entire body = symmetry. I don't twitch myself to the left when playing games. Why the hell should the left stick be higher? Anyway it's their opinion and I respect that. I hope next gen controllers will have the option to swap their placement as standard. IMO the DS3 just needs to adjust the ergonomics and the angle/length of the handles. Make it point more towards the stick rather than the pad. The triggers aren't good, but I'm not killing myself over it. Oh and make those sticks concave so they stop slipping.the only issues with the ds3 are he crappy triggers and that the sony controller was designed for an age without analog sticks.

I really truly find it hard to believe that anyone who owns both a PS3 and a 360 can prefer the Dual Shock.
The 360's controller is far more ergonomic, has offset dual analog sticks, and it's triggers are far better. The only down side I can say is really the D-Pad, which fortunately most games don't even utilize.
I would bet money at most of the people preferring the Dual Shock as being PS3 only owners, or long time Playstation fans that have been using the same controller for the past 15 years.

Yea that has to be it:roll:. Dude get over it people have different perferences thats it. I have been gaming and tried alot of controllers in my life time and I still would choose DS3 over 360 controller. I can handel both just fine, but I just perfer the DS3 and yes I own all 3 current systems. Also please leave any "its must be cause your a cow" thoughts since im far from a fanboy and many of my post proves it.
I say this as well. The xbox 360's controller is a fat obese controller compared to the beatuiful PS3 controller.

Lol, polls show that this board is filled with cows

So I guess if 360 was winning it would be "this bord is filled with lems" right?

*cough cough* ad populum fallacy *cough cough*.
That proves nothing. Unless everyone who has stated in this thread that opinion=/=fact is wrong, which is what you're claiming?
lol you are the one who put the vote up, where bother putting it up if it is meaningless?Ad populum fallacy doesn't apply for everyone who believe in democracy. As majority is always right, whether you belong to the majority or not.
Yeah this is all about which you prefer as nothing between the 2 spec wise edges out the other. I don't have any reason why I'd much rather use the Xbox 360 controller instead of things like unaligned analog sticks naturally making your thumbs feeling more relaxed, all such things are simply what I prefer. Basically no reason to freak out & debate hardcore over it.
I have it and I way prefer the DS3. I already hate the 360 controller beacause its too heavy and contantly disconects for me...I really truly find it hard to believe that anyone who owns both a PS3 and a 360 can prefer the Dual Shock.

well according to me, and this poll, the PS3 controller rules. its ruled for 15 years and will continue to rule, 360 controller is bulky and dumb, the face buttons feel cheap, and having to use batteries? LOL

Um, maybe because I was interested in seeing which controller people prefer? Not that hard to understand.
Yes, the Ad populum fallacy does apply here. And yes, I'd be saying the same thing if the 360 was winning. Majority does not make right, and general consensus has no bearing on objective quality. By your logic, if everyone loved and adored ET for the Atari 2600, I take it then that it'd be considered a great game, right?

the only thing this poll proves is this place is infested with COWS!! blind partisan sony fanboys..but we already knew that from every other poll that includes anything ps3 related as an option :!:

Of course it would! :roll:Im guessing those that prefer the 360 controls struggled with the PS1 and PS2's controls. Dont fix what aint broken is the saying, nothing worng with the Dualshock at all, it was fine the last 2 gens and is still fine now. The way i see it is the 360 controllers are better for fps, DS3 for every other genre, yet perfectly suitable for fps.

I think you are confusing objectivity with belief. Democracy is something you believe in, not something you can prove. As for your example, no one likes ET on Atari 2600, so there's no reason to believe that it is a good game. So by general consensus on system wars, DS3 is the better controller. And if you are going to go to such depth discussing proofs, ad populum, objectivity, ect. Maybe you should have considered them BEFORE making these exaggerated claims on your thread title/open post.I love the style of the Dualshock controllers, but I don't like the design of the DS3, that's why I voted for the 360 one. I prefer the DS3 clones for the PC like the recent logitech F series gamepads. The DS3 lacks some curves here and there that it should have while it has some that it shouldn't have, all for the sake of ergonomics.
It's ergonomically superior because the analogue is in line with the ABXY buttons where your thumbs are in a more natural and symetrical position. Just because the analogue sticks of the PS3 are level and symetrical doesn't make them ergonomic. Trigger buttons are better on the 360 controller and D-Pad is now getting fixed too.I've found the PS3 controller to be better in every way honestly. It doesn't have an overwhelming presence in your hands, the buttons feel a hell of a lot better, the D-pad is vastly superior, and the stick placement makes much more sense. I laugh every time somebody makes the "natural thumb placement" argument for the 360 controller. If that's the case, why isn't the right stick up higher as well? It's a logic fallacy.
Sserv
i knew ps3 controller would be winning. the 360 controller is to weird and awkward. as if you had i had a longer left thumb for the left stick or something. ps3 is symmetrical like our hands! for the most part. lolzacharyheck22How are the XO SQ and TRI buttons symetrical with the left analogue stick? These are the buttons and controls used the most.
