So I beat both CoD 4 and Halo Reach (again) recently, both had some exceptional levels in them that inspired this thread

Here's some:

New Alexandria - Halo Reach

Halo-Reach-New-Alexandria-02-UH-144-Falc

All Ghillied Up - Call of Duty 4

Call-of-Duty-4-Modern-Warfare-All-ghilli

One Shot, One Kill - Call of Duty 4

call-of-duty-4-one-shot-one-kill-1.jpg

The Silent Cartographer - Halo Combat Evolved

New Alexandria is probably my all time favourite level in a video game. The Atmosphere was just....awesome.

Half Life 2 Ravenholm was pretty amazing to

Online levels don't count yo. And god, I loved Terminal at first, but my friends and I wore out the goddamn level. Now I can't stand the site of it.

Metro 2033 - Ghosts. Sticking your ear to the pipes for too long and hearing that ghostly wail was pretty creepy.

CoD:MW - All ghillied up. That level is fvcking sweet

Crysis - First level, when you walk out and see the sun rise is pretty powerful for the first time.

Far Cry 3 - Burning the Marijuana. The music kicks in and it's just cool.

F.E.A.R 2 - The school level. That is one scary ass place when you play it properly.

I also love levels from Half life 2, Bioshock and Cryostasis. But can't narrow it down to one so I will leave them out.

It's hard to remember / pick a favorite. But my favorite campaigns include GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Halo:CE, TimeSplitters 2, CoD4:MW.

I guess you remember the classic ones, not necessarily "best" or most fun to play. Facility, oblask dam and the halo ring / cartographer sequence.

Ravenholm from Half Life 2. The Truth and Reconciliation from Halo CE. Outskirts/Metropolis from Halo 2. It's been a long time since I've played CoD 2 so I can't remember level names specifically, but I'll go with all of it. Best CoD campaign they've ever done imo.

Edit: Shame on me for forgetting Dark Forces. The third level in the garbage facility was amazing. And terrifying with those friggin eye monsters popping up everywhere.

If you guys are willing to count it as a FPS, then from DXHR

Probably one of the most engrossing levels I have ever played, even though it had so many things that could at the same time suck you out of the experience

The fanboy is strong in this one. All Nintendo games yet the only good game out of all of those is Timesplitters. Goldeneye aged horribly and just plays like poopoo today, but keep those nostalgia glasses on.

Highly underrated game. Others that come to mind: Halo CE - The Maw Killzone 2 - Tharsis Refinery + The Cruiser Also concur with the CoD4 sentiment in here, most of that game was fantastic. I'm also particular toward some of the levels in MW3 but too lazy to look up which ones (Britain, Hague, Germany).

People are so lazy in these threads. Just saying "All of it" even though there's likely one part they enjoyed more than others. They just can't be bothered to think about it.

You serious? That level was horrible :? The mech was so clunky and the level design was poor.

The intro level was the best in KZ2. That or the train. When you tossed a grenade and watched the particles actually fly passed you because the train was moving, that was awesome

MW3 is bad. It has some cool set pieces and all but it's just monotonous. Eneter area, clear area, watch set piece and repeat is all it boiled down to. MW2 was saved by that ice/snow level. Everything else was kinda bleh

MW1 was excellent because it paced itself so damn well, and the story actually felt like a story. Not pandering.

Yes. And a mech being clunky is kind of redundant, no? At least in my experience with them.

I liked the Gulag a bit, it was shorter than I thought it would be, but that was fun. No level stands out in my mind as exceptional like OS,OK and AGU in CoD 4 do though. Shame to hear you're also in that consensus for MW3. Damn it Activision, why'd you f*ck with the original IW?

There's a difference in being clunky in real life and cumbersome to what a game should do. It shouldn't feel crap to walk around in a mech. Play hawken and then go back to KZ2 and you'll see what a mech should feel like. or at least a better rendition of what it should feel like.

Then again the controls in KZ2 were pretty crap all round anyway

Maybe you will like it, I can't say but you sound the same as me and I didn't like MW3 all that much.

No CoD level will top the Ghillie suit one though anyway.

I've always felt mechs should feel very slow and methodical. That's how it is portrayed in games like Halo 4 and Chromehounds. I'll try Hawken out one day, see if I notice a difference.

The Aztec level in Timesplitters 2 was great, especially on Normal/Hard where you end up entering the Aztec Temple all the way to the Stone golems faceoff with the grenade launcher.

It also had a great song

The train sequence in Killzone 2 is one. Just running through, dropping fools one by one with the shotgun. That was the point where I said "You know, this game is pretty fvcking rad."

Shock & Awe in CoD4. I replayed that level at least a good 3-4 times. A wonderfully paced and intense level from beginning to end. Lady Boyle's Last Party in Dishonored, especially if you take a stealthy route. You really feel like a professional assassin if you can take out the target without ever disturbing the party.

I can't think of any level that really stands out in the FPS's that I've played  (that and I play multiplayer central FPS and also barely play many GOOD campaign levels in an FPS).

The only thing I can think of that stands out for me is the War in the tunnels versus the communist forces in Metro 2033 but that level was not good in any format and I would probably argue it was rather terrible.

Actually, the librarian level from Metro was very good. Of course I could over the course of time and many bullets kill the librarians but that intial traverse through the library and coming across the creatures and constantly moving away and keeping eye on them was very atmospheric, tense, and very good.
