Valve never developed CS or TFC...
That title is for Rare, no FPS has come even close to Perfect Dark...and frankly, small FPS issue aside it is the second greatest game ever made, next to Chrono Trigger.
This isn't about the best devs of all time. This is about the future of the genre. I mean, I would like to add them, but I'm not going to based on their past.
The only company that I added based solely on their past was Id, and that was only because they created the genre itself.
Haze does not look like a game that is the bleeding edge future of FPS's; I'm sorry.
As much as I would like to add FR to the list, I can not rationally allow myself to.

Free Radical is making Timesplitters 4 too.If you going to have Bioshock 2 up there then you should have Timesplitters 4 also.
What I don't get is why Rare isnt up there, they are by a long shot the greatest FPS developer.MrGrimFandango

Well, assuming Rare gives up the FPS genre completely then ID (Rage looks really good)...the only way for any of those devs to match Rare would be to make the perfect FPS...
The rest are referred to their past games, so I repeat, why isnt Rare up there?
My favorite FPS devs:
1) Epic Games
2) Monolith Productions
3) id Software
Lots of id hate here..but I put them up there because:
a) They brought the genre into the mainstream...
b) They created Quake 1, which was arguably the most influential multiplayer FPS title ever conceived. Sure there were multiplayer games before Quake..but nothing like Quake's online community had ever existed. That was practically the birth of multiplayer gaming as we know it now. Quake 3 was extremely influential as well, especially in the professional gaming scene.
c) They made some of the most notable innovations in 3D graphics rendering

hmm, I always thought of it as an fps. mp3 felt like one[QUOTE="jethrovegas"]I disagree on several levels. Free Radical did not make GE or PD. Sorry.
The founders of the companies may have worked on those games in some role, but they did not make them.
And this thread is not solely about looking at the past; it is about looking at the future of the genre at what each companies game is doing for it.
Crytek is new, but they have Crysis which looks super awesome.
Id is lacking an ultra-compelling new title (Rage has not shown us much) but they created the genre.
See? Some companies have an legendary past, some companies have an amazing new game, and right now, Free Radical has neither.
Until I get see something great from Haze, I will not be able to add them to the list.
Not-A-Stalker
Are you serious?
Yes, Free Radical did make Goldneneye and Perfect Dark. Funny, you're the first person I've met that has tried to debate this claim. The team that make Perfect Dark and Goldeneye left Rare and formed Free Radical. The team might have made the games while working at a different company, but we're talking about the best devs of our time, and the Free Radical dev team is most certainly one of the best devs of our time.
Free Radical did make Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 007. :s
And just because you don't like Haze doesn't mean they're bad. You haven't even played it! If I say Rage looks like crap, will you take id off the list? Because both FRD and id have amazing resumes. Seriously, your logic makes no sense... "Oh I'll ignore this devs past, and I don't like this game I haven't played yet so I don't consider them one of the best devs of all time" :?
No, Free Radical didn't make Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. Only three former rare members are at Free Radical, and I'm pretty sure GE and PD were made by more than three people.
[QUOTE="crazyjames1080"][QUOTE="XenoNinja"]I would have to say Nintendo.XenoNinja
Nintendo develop FPS?
yup! duck hunt.
Sadly I agree, damn was Duck Hunt fun, besides, Metroid Prime 3 is an amazing FPS that can rival many other great FPS' and exceed them.you got to put Boethia Interactive up there! They made operation flashpoint!!!!lettuceman44
I would, but this is really more about current games, and the future of the genre.

well they came out with Arma, which had its technical problems at first, but patches fixed the worst ones, and its still the most hardcore of shooters and still great! Also, ArmA 2 is in the works.[QUOTE="Thebettertwin"][QUOTE="XenoNinja"]I would have to say Nintendo.Acemaster27
 sheep
good list but why is it necessary?
Its true tho, u ever play Giest? most underratted game ever.
That and they made golden eye
Wasnt that on the dreamcast.
There was another FPS dev that not on that list that I was just thinking about. The one that created the Battlefield series. The series is pretty fun(at least 1942 is fun, never play BF 2, but I heard it was great), and Bad Company look good. Plus there may be a Battlefield 3.Wanderer5that would be Dice. People keep calling it an ea game, but they are just the publishers
