"Beefed up." That means it share similar capabilities, but is a little more capable. Both the DS and PSP cannot replicate GC or PS2 level graphics. They get close, but not close enough.
The Wii cost about $200 to make at the beginning of the generation when it was released. Based on how much it costs to make a PS3 (less than current Slim MSRP), I doubt the Wii costs more than $100 to make. Going with under-powered hardware that doesn't cost much to make, is playing it safe, not taking a risk.
come to italy. go to the markets. you'll finfd plenty of chinese and morocans selling those plastic cars that go round in circles, and that break in 10 mins. does the wii do that? in your logic, yes. in that case would it not be risky?
