If we pretend Metaknight and Ganondorf don't exist than maybe Brawl is more balanced than Melee. >_>
From a competitive standpoint Melee is much better designed than Brawl. Tripping, Metaknight's dominance and over-centralization in Brawl's metagame, and the messed up hitstun in Brawl really hurt it. It doesn't help that a Brawl matches can be hard to watch at times due to the slow, defensive nature of the game. Sometimes I wonder how much more interesting competitive Brawl would be if the scene had made it 1-2 stock matches, 5 minute matches instead of 3 stock, 8 minute matches, but that's beside the point.
