Viva pinata is nothing like Pokemon.
Nintendo might have a big lead in sales. But all the games that wil have ground breaking advances this gen will come from PC xbox 360 and PS3.
There is only so much waggle can do.
Power is needed for advancement in AI and physics too. Not just graphics.

Finally a Wii-fan with a brain and can see past 2007!!
Viva Pinata seems a little complex to me for most kids. Its not a total mind melter or anything but its not exactly the most simple game ever devised. The demo seemed kind of complicated. The Sixxaxis thing seems justified because everybody and their brother knew Sony did it in reaction to the Wiimote. One thing is for sure...Nintendo gets very catty about their domination of the 3-5 year old gaming market.
He believes that the two rival companies lack the "DNA" to understand a market that wants more from a gaming experience than just the next version of Halo or Grand Theft Auto.
yeah right
"If they only focus on the Grand Theft Autos and the Halos and things of that nature, they're focusing on a very tiny part of the market. The overall market is growing so dramatically that they're going to miss out on the opportunities that we're seeing in the expanded audience," he said.
I'm sorry but aren't these games one of the best selling games of all time?
I wonder if once the novelty of the Wii wears off that people will start flocking back to the traditional controlled consoles which are due for a price drop.
And since when is Microsoft forbidden from making a "kid oriented game".
Basically Nintendo just called themselves kiddie if you think about it.

I tend to agree. But don't sleep on Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros.
The Wii wil have some great games. But they won't be anything that would not be possible last gen.
But there might be games that would not be possible (or any fun) without the WII mote.

i actually believe the wii's "E" rated games (like wii sports) is targetted more so for adults who have never played games before, more so than for the GTA/Halo loving kids out there
just because a games is rated "E" doesn't mean its made for only a younger audience

Irony.
Exactly... what are some of the best games or coming games for the Wii?!
Zelda
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros
Metroid Prime 3
Super Mario Galaxy
as well as others such as
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Cooking Mama
Brain Age
SSX Blur
Madden
etc.
agree with thirstychainsaw... COMPLETE IRONY.
*ouch*
I quess the sales figures plead for nintendo. Anyways, I think more mature gamers played viva pinata by far than the little kiddies.

YES!!! that game got F**ING HARD!!!!!!
Man Atleast Sony waited to win 2 generations before they started to run there mouth. Sheesh Nintendo is having an amazing launch year and thats seems to be all they need to be cocky. I will seriousaly LMAO if PS3 honestly comes back to snuff the wii. Ofcourse more than Likely the Wii is gonna pull a DS and just dominate from here on in. Personally i hope its close.

you must not remember the late 90s Nintendo. Sony's arrogance barely holds a candlestick.
I agree with that statement made by Nintendo. However, despite it's failure to capture the market, VP is a great game. Truly. donalbaneagreed. I kind of agree wit the six-axis being tacked on...But attacking Viva pinata is a low blow. That game is surprisingly complicated and I doubt little kids would be able to understand the game. Truely Rare's best game since they left nintendo

It's also very ironic when the cows and lemmings chastise Nintendo for putting out sequels. There were only 2 Zelda console games last generation and one Mario platformer. There were 2 Halos, 3 Devil May Cries, 4 Ratchets, 3 Jaks, and 3 Grand Theft Autos.

Time to nitpick. The 3rd parties didn't come to Sony until after they made their own console.
Because people who grew up playing mario will never be as hardcore as the 14 year olds who started gaming with GTA patheticHonestly, I could care less.
Pokemon is clearly irrelevant to me, personally. Obviously, Nintendo has captured an untapped market who are "scared" to touch the Halos or GTAs, etc. Pokemons and other cutesy games are usually big hits on Nintendo consoles, I'm not surprise. Nintendo published games or 1st party games are usually big hitters. Especially among parents and kids.

[QUOTE="article"]With the sales of Wii and DS hardware crushing the competition in the US, Harrison is confident that Nintendo could take up to as much as 50 per cent of the market for this latest 'next-gen' cycle."We also have a belief that we can be, of this lifecycle, 40-45 per cent of the hardware that's being sold. But on the other hand, we could get over 50 per cent. And a lot of that depends on what our competitors do," he stated.

Since this thread on the topic has taken a decidedly harsher and one-side tone than the other, I will put in a more extensive response than my previous one.
1. Many of these statements while not verifiably true, have been common threads and fairly universally agreed on in here. Sony announced motion-control after Nintendo. Whether they were working on it before or not, most people had a feeling of "oh if they are doing it, so will I". PS3 and 360 as they stand now focus much more on the hard-core gamer. Nintendo is saying "You know there's more people out there than 12-24 year old men that like to shoot and kick things or play tons of sports sims." Nintendo is not the first one to comment about the fact that Sony and MS are going to need more than that market. Can you list more than 3 quality games on each of the other 2 systems that my mother (52) with a ds library of 8 games or my 8 year old grandson would enjoy.
2. Yes the percentage of hardware estimates are a bit boastful. However, remember that by all estimates, this generation of consoles alone was said to be very close. That gives everyone a conservative base of 35% for consoles. I think that based on the early success of the Wii, particularly in Japan, it's not hard to think that Wii sales may be higher. Also take into account the number of people that claim that Wii will be a second console.
3. The term was also hardware that means console and handheld combined. This automatically buts MS at a disadvantage. While PSP sales are impressive, I doubt too many people think they will reach a point when they are equal to DS sales which means that DS will have over 50% of hardware sales.
That's right Sony and Microsoft are catering to only a portion of the market,... the HARDCORE sector. The group of consumers you should be focused on. Sure it's okay to criticize PS3 on price and lack of available games but nobody ever says anything about the Wii's complete lack of an online multiplayer service or that even first party games with the exception of party games, can't really use the Wii-Remote in any imaginitive ways(even ZELDA!). Why is this? Becuase the majority of hardcore gamers don't care about the Wii, because Nintendo sure as hell doesn't care about them.espoac
and its so funny because both of them try to aim for the mass market(non gamers) with all those multi media features they both offer in their consoles.
