People. Nintendo has always been like this. Shall I dig up years and years worth of Nintendo quotes. Its just that this gen, they have the numbers to back up their smack talk. It is a little overly confident but not so much as to actually call the company cocky. Cmon. Sony is cocky. Maybe MS. But this? Not really. All he said was that Sony tried to copy (isnt that already a fact?) and that MS tried to copy. ANd its true. Viva Pinata? You know MS told rare to do that after Nintendos kiddy success.
People are over exagerating these quotes. Cmon these cows are saying Nintendo is cocky but I could swear MS and SONY called the Wii a novelty toy/fad. You guys are so hypocritical.Calling another competitors product a novelty toy or a fad is cockiness and nintendo has never done that. I remember when cows were backing sony up on that arrogant quote yet now Nintendo is cocky for saying that sony tacked the sixaxis on last minute b/c the wiimote. Thats a fact so whats the deal?

Sixaxis and Viva Piñata were failed attempts to capture our consumer, says Harrison
[QUOTE=""]Sony's Sixaxis controller and Viva Piñata for Xbox 360 are both failed attempts to capture the traditional Nintendo customer, according to NoA boss George Harrison.
He believes that the two rival companies lack the "DNA" to understand a market that wants more from a gaming experience than just the next version of Halo or Grand Theft Auto.
"So far they haven't spent a lot of time focused on us. Now that we're having some success, they probably will," commented Harrison to Wired.
"We can already see some of the things they've tried. For last year's E3, at the last minute, Sony rushed out their Sixaxis controller as an effort to respond to the Wii remote. We saw Microsoft roll out Viva Piñata as their killer app for the Pokemon set. And neither of those worked really well.
"Part of this is, I think it's not in their DNA. They're really good at reaching a certain customer, and have a real difficulty understanding how we succeed with the customers that we have," said the senior vice president of marketing and communications.
With the sales of Wii and DS hardware crushing the competition in the US, Harrison is confident that Nintendo could take up to as much as 50 per cent of the market for this latest 'next-gen' cycle.
"We also have a belief that we can be, of this lifecycle, 40-45 per cent of the hardware that's being sold. But on the other hand, we could get over 50 per cent. And a lot of that depends on what our competitors do," he stated.
"If they only focus on the Grand Theft Autos and the Halos and things of that nature, they're focusing on a very tiny part of the market. The overall market is growing so dramatically that they're going to miss out on the opportunities that we're seeing in the expanded audience," he said.

By the end of 08 NIN could probably care less about sales. They are the only company making money right now and with all the Wii's that are selling.....They have racked up enough $$$$ to come back stronger with their next console...
And if the trend next gen is what its been this gen..."360 failure rates up sky high...PS3 costs more than 2x what it should"...I will be totally done with them and be strickly NINTENDO.......
Irony.Yeah, Nintendo really doesn't have room to talk on that issue.[QUOTE="Harrison"]He believes that the two rival companies lack the "DNA" to understand a market that wants more from a gaming experience than just the next version of Halo or Grand Theft Auto.thirstychainsaw
I'm not going to listen to him.
I remember Nintendo was pretty boastful in the early Gamecube years. Same thing, and look where they ended up, big fat #3. on the bottom.
all companies have their fair share of big talk, I wont pretend Microsoft and Sony dont do it either. But for Nintendo to criticize the game library of other companies when his own company still currently has the worst third-party support, it's just funny.
After reading the more complete statements, Nintendo is absolutely right.
IF MS and Sony don't start breaking out of their "hardcore gamer" niche, Nintendo will dominate. I know that there's a very vocal segment that says "Wii has no games" "Why do people buy Wii with no games?" "If it weren't for Zelda I wouldn't touch my Wii" Guess what- in the grand scheme of things you are the vast minority.
Whether you as a "hardcore gamer" like them or not, people are buying and enjoying Wii games, and in many cases there are few suitable alternatives on the other consoles. Is there an Elebits for 360 or PS3? What about a platformer on par to SPM?, Cooking Mama?, Brain Age?
Yes 360 has a higher current attach rate, but not by much, and not when you consider the differences in library size and console lifespan.
Nintendo shouldnt be so Cocky this early.Haziqonfire
The first thing that came to mind. Even if they did win this generation. They still took a beating for a whole decade.
:D Nintendo
I WANT them to dominate this year so they kick back and think they are back in business and start talking like the Nintendo from the N64 days. Then PS3 will come in with MGS4, FFXIII, FFXIII VS, GoW3, GT5, and a ton of other games coming out in 08 and completely OBLITERATE the Wii. Enjoy this Nintendo while you still can, SONY has your dominant days NUMBERED!
