@tormentos:
3.2 Ghz clock speed means nothing when nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX delivers superior results for the workloads that matter for raster games over PS3. Again, for Blue Gene solution, IBM dumps high clock speed for pure core count.
GeForce 8800 GTX *is* designed, optimized and "to be the best" for raster based games and anything else are red herrings. Geforce G80 basic design survived multiple model renames with the last being 250 GTX. NVidia's G80 doesn't have to worry about IBM's PowerPC VMX legacy design issues i.e. SPE ISA is based on VMX/Altivec.
For 2006, GeForce 8800 GTX is the "best" processor to accelerate raster based games.
Btw, running PhysX on 980 Ti slows down the raster frame rates, hence the need for improved CPU SIMD extensions. Citing PhysX X86 CPU build would be a bad example since version 3.x doesn't support FMA3 and AVXv2. Supporting FMA3 doubles the FLOPS number over non-FMA3 version.
