Just report them and let them enjoy a ban.blue_hazy_basicyep, that's what i say.

Ya this and they have an ingame report abusive material and gameplay thing. Some can be pretty bad, and i've seen a few myself. It was a good idea, but Treyarch should have known how a large portion of the gaming population would misuse the tools

That's what our Adolescent Society is.
They do it for the lulz and could careless if anyone gets offended.
However if this is a full blown adult in his mid 20s or older....this is just sad.
[QUOTE="thom_maytees"]What is offensive about a religious emblem or a cross? some people aren't christian. see i know that the game's ToS doesn't have to follow the Consitution, but aside from speech there is another law. one that says that we cannot discriminate against certain groups. yes, nazis and the Klan exist today and yes other nationalities of people are out there belonging to hate-filled groups. if we ban anyone with a swazstika or a KKK sign, then it is only right to also ban any cross, star of david, or black power sign. you may not feel that it is right, but that's not the point. i'll bring up the constitution again. in it, we are not allowed to have any set religion for public schools. this is to prevent some people from being discrimintated against. if you are jewish and your school is telling everyone to participate in a christian prayer, you have ever right to leave the group until they are finished. the Klan and the American Nazi party are allowed to have public assembly and parades anywhere that they want as long as they go about everything legally. by law, the police must protect them. this law was put in place to protect people from the popular opinion. that's all that any of this is. OPINION. so yeah, despite what you may think or believe, they only thing wrong here is if someone is banned for displaying that they are a nazi but someone can show off they faith without the same and equal treatment. otherwise, you really aren't any better than they are.[QUOTE="xxyetixx"]
I report people that put crosses and any religion related material in their emblems as I see that as offensive.
antifanboyftw
Ok, so you're talking about a public school setting where a set religion isn't allowed. However, Xbox Live or PSN is far from a public school. Reporting someone for just having a cross or a star of David is beyond ridiculous. How you can compare them to a swastika or a KKK sign is beyond me. Clearly those two groups have actively participated in methods to hurt other people. Did Christians or Jews ever support the lynchings of blacks across the country? Did either of those groups do what the Nazis did, effectively plan and execute the mass murder of an entire people? Anyone who says that a swastika is the same as a cross is wrong, just flat out wrong. I'm all for freedom of speech but this just crosses the line. You know what? Why don't you go watch a movie like Schindler's List and then come back here and see if you have the nerve to tell me that a swastika isn't offensive to Jewish people. People like you make me wonder what this world has come to. And fact of the matter is the Constitution only protects you from the government impeding upon your freedom of speech, and does nothing to protect you from private organizations. So if Treyarch wants to go ahead and ban people for having swastikas, they can go on right ahead because the Constitution can't do a god**** thing about it. And that's a FACT, not some lousy opinion either.
What happened to freedom of speech?"Freedom of speech" applies to the pubic (government) sphere, not the private sphere like a web site, forum, business, organization, or private home.thecreechxxx
The trend ofuhhh... "animal husbandry" emblems was kind of funny for a while, but some of the horrible stuff people are coming up with now certainly merits banning.
[QUOTE="FIipMode"]How Treyarch didn't see this coming is beyond me.Dead-Memorieslol, which begs the question... why did they include a raw Pickle for the emblem creator? of all things....
The more you know :P
My least favorite part of Black Ops is the custom playercard. My most favorite part about MW2 was all of the titles and emblems that one could earn-- some took me months of work to obtain. I love Black Ops, but I feel no need to prestige or continue to play the game since there aren't prestige challenges and other ellusive challenges such as weapons challenges. This is too bad because Black Ops, IMO, is a superior game to MW2.
Black Ops has some seriously messed up playercards though. I have been seeing a lot of pickles being used lately-- usually the pickle represents a man's genitals and is in a monkey's mouth.
If you think Xbox Live is bad, you should try the internet. See what exists out there outside of your primped and trim little Gamespot garden. There's a lot worse than what you saw on Xbox Live published every day, I can guarantee you that much. Therefore this doesn't say anything negative about Xbox Live. You should see the sprays in TF2 (PC). Actually, I guess you shouldn't, seeing as you're already ragingly upset because some people trolled you successfully. If it bothers you, let Xbox Live know. I'd be willing to bet money they have plenty of people doled out specifically for the purpose of picking up trolls who make lynchings and pornography on the emblem creator and throwing them into the Live bans incinerator. It's called the banhammer. Use it. All you have to do is report them. You're complaining about an emblem creator.this past week alone i've seen about countless emblems of a black man getting lynched by a klan member, an emblem of a man in nazi uniform tossing a baby into a furnace, two planes flying into the twin towers, an exact replica of our president with a red dot on his face, and the american flag burning- ALL through the black ops emblem creator, and countless other swastikas, bestiality, porn.
i've seen some video-game oriented offensive material, but some of the things on black ops are just unmatched in vulgarity and taste. good God.

Yes, they did.
People did very, very bad things under all banners and under all colors in all times and places. I can come up with a hundred different instances. That isn't a sufficient justification to ban these symbols. Nor does it need to reflect poorly on the symbol.
I don't support banning these symbols, or any content, opinion, or image, but private institutions can ban whatever they like. Social consciousness informs the banning of symbols like swastikas, and social consciousness supports expression of a range of acceptable ideas.
If something offends you on Xbox Live, report it. More than likely there's someone sympethic to your feelings that will see it as a problem and deal with it. Xbox Live is a walled garden, and they can permban anyone for unsociable material.

I'm sure there's something in the ToU (I signed the Windows Live TOU the other day and it pretty much said this) regarding not publishing, saying, or hinting ANYTHING even remotely offensive to anybody while using their service, so they'll have extensive ground to swing their banhammer on.
BTW the point about the internet was...I was just mentioning that on the internet, people behave badly if you let them, no matter where you are. Xbox Live's community is no better or worse than any other platform. All you have to do is report these people and they will go away. On communities that aren't moderated (like the forum I'm not allowed to mention here), it's the wild west. That's just the way people are on the net. It has nothing to do with Xbox Live.
There are 10's of prestige challenges, and probably hundreds of unlockables available only after you prestige. I liked the horse ejaculating on a gorilla with a handgun in its hoof. Pretty good. And yeah, you can report anyone for offensive symbols. I don't know what I'm gonna make yet. I'm only at level 41... we'll see.My least favorite part of Black Ops is the custom playercard. pretty much.... people need to learn how to accept it. its just funny how people would want to ban or suspend someone or maybe even take away the tools to make emblems. people seriously need to lighten up, who cares if you see a horse plowing another horse with an american flag in the background lol.Much like everything on the internet, you learn to laugh or ignore it. It's unrealistic to think it will ever stop happening.

lol im pretty sure its more than just children.......One of the worst things ever to be put into a game. Just shows how ridiculous children are on XBL.

As far as I can tell from looking at the Black Ops Wiki is that there are very few new backgrounds and symbols that one can earn from prestiging. There are many new challenges but they are all for XP points, not new callsigns and emblems like in MW2. Black Ops doesn't have callsigns and emblems like MW2 did-- which is one of my main regrets about Black Ops-- I truly enjoyed all the creative callsigns and emblems that IW made (eg Joint Ops, Make it Rain, GrimReaper, etc). I feel very little motivation to prestige for colored clantags, gold camo, and facepaint.

As a matter of fact, I think that's very patriotic :)

90% of the players you encounter on online shooters are foul-mouthed, racist, homophobic teenagers. After hearing them speak seeing those logos doesn't surprise me one bit.
Snugenz
Fixed that for ya, seeing as its in no way limited to XBL. ;)
Fixed it for you too.
@thread. How is human-produced filth surprising -- especially via any channel that provides the option to produce such filth and grants the initiator complete anonymity? There's nothing we can do about any of it in the grand-scheme of things. If you want to be part of the internet community, at virtually any level, you will have to come to terms with the reality that the open internet is essentially an assorted bag of **** and cookies, and you'll never know what you're going to get once you'll reach into the bag.
Trust me man, I don't like any of that filth either -- even if all of it is technically harmless. And I know that it's hard "not to care" when you, in fact, "care," but you're just going to have to learn to zone out all of the unnecessary BS you hear or see on the internet.
As for this particular issue (with BO), I guess it wouldn't hurt informing Treyarch that their little custom emblem idea took a turn for the absolute worst (if Trey isn't already aware it, that is). And maybe it'll do something about it. At least that beats trying to report every single person that has an offensive emblem and hope that their subsequent punishment (if it'll ever come) will be severe enough to permanently censor their offensive actions.
I find it amusing people play a game where you the objective is to kill yet the site of a genital emblem is disgusting  the game is an 18 after all surely its not that offensive is it? I agree with you though TC things like racist emblems or anti any country have no place on there. But if somebody wants a male or female sexual organ as their emblem I just assume that must be what they classify themselves as.

Agree. One of the most thoughtful messages here...
But the male and female sexual organs can be offensive for people above 18. The fact you're no longer forbidden from seeing that kind of contents, it doesn't mean you'll enjoy seeing them in closeups. Another thing is a nude, history has plenty of them... in paintings, sculptures, etc.

sounds like someone is uncofortable with the human body... if your going to sit down and play a game depicting murder in a game of capture the flag, you shouldn't complain if someone draws a penis somewhere...sounds like someone is uncofortable with the human body... if your going to sit down and play a game depicting murder in a game of capture the flag, you shouldn't complain if someone draws a penis somewhere...savagetwinkie
So technically they shouldn't complain if the picture is from a real dead person with blood flowing from a bullet hole in the head? They are playing a murder game amirite?
I dont mind it myself since my brain knows when to disconnect feelings associated to pictures. I have been able to go through the whole page of "offended" from ED, if that clears it up.
my emblem on PS3 is roughly based off the old RA2 soviet emblem :P mind you said emblem has had me get abuse from teen americans spouting junk and sitting there with a swastika or a schlongemblem...Somtimes i would love for there to be a working time machine or is it because youth now has become so desensitized to violence as a whole?
I remember i wrote an essay for Int2 english on this subject (question was something like how has the media affected the modern person and i focused on this and reinforced why age ratings should be enforced further as its a moral obligation) if i could find the essay i would post it in here.Ended up with an A and the head of department was pretty astounded at the depth of something she thought was for just kids.
But the problem lies in the enforcement here, especially with live i've heard many stories of things like the guy having his hometown (well most of sw know the story :P) but yet stuff like this runs rampant on what is considered to be their biggest online game :S

what i'm saying is if yoru giong to allow yourself to not only visually see violence but act it out too, seeing a stupid drawn in cartoon penis or something stupid like that and complain about it sounds ridiculous, i know its mostly american society that tends to have this weird view that sex is worse then violence because sex is still sort of taboo, what i'm saying is if yoru giong to allow yourself to not only visually see violence but act it out too, seeing a stupid drawn in cartoon penis or something stupid like that and complain about it sounds ridiculous, i know its mostly american society that tends to have this weird view that sex is worse then violence because sex is still sort of taboo, savagetwinkie

Its not surprising in this world of apathy were kids want/do have sex by the age of 14 everywere they can, like dogs in heat; cursing every time & drinking until alcoholic coma is considered cool; and ofcourse the conception that good morals and families are outdated and uncool.
Good world we be living in.
