The Conduit most promising new IP since Uncharted Drakes Fortune?

didnt they only make one other FPS? the vietnam game and the psp one were tps werent they? people still hype mistwalker's cry on despite the fact that they got paid 20 million dollars to make 2 mediocre jrpg. i guess people continue to hype KZ2 because every time gameplay is shown, from a technology standpoint(we wont know gameplay until we play it) it blows anything else on consoles away. at least KZ2 hypers have something tangible to hype, something that seems worth hyping. too human looks horrible, still gets hyped, haze looked horrible, still got hyped to be decent, its the nature of things...

You have just with out a doubt proven that you haven't played Lost Odyssey. LO is without a doubt THE most underrated game this gen and it's a shame that sites such as Gamespot didn't adjust their scores for it when the truth came out about the review versions taking longer to load and had such horrible framerate issues. Both issues that aren't as bad (3-5 second loads is nowhere near as bad as 30-45) in the full retail version. Seeing how those two issues were the ONLY major complaints they had, the score should've been adjusted. Don't call both titles mediocre when one is quite simply the FF7 of this gen.

The Wiis shooter collection sucks for a reason, there are no good ones that make use of the control scheme in any unique way design wise. This game certainly isnt helping. Its like creativity and shooter are dead together on the platform. Then again the other consoles cant speak for themselves.

the game, going by the vid at least, isnt looking to brilliant in its current state imho. it has some good points like that creature at the end of the vid which looked and moved brilliantly. but for every great bit, theres a very rough looking bit also. in fairness the game is still under development and its release is quite far away...so theres plently of time to fix all those issues.

i cant comment on the gameplay really but it looks like a shooter that will control well and do the job...but nothign really spectacualr. still if it pulls that off then high voltage will be doing alot better than what other 3rd parties have done on the wii on the FPS front.

im not hyping it...but i am keeping an eye on it and i wish the devs the best of luck.

what i am more interested in at the mo though is the engine....an engine built specifically for the wii. if this becomes instrumental in getting other devs to start using wii tech instead of GC and PS2 tech then that would be fantastic. from improved and easier to use controller APIs, to creating cool effects the wii way, it could give the wii a nice little jolt. this could be the wiis UE3 so to speak. the tech demo was pretty impressive and if they could get all that running in a game then that would be a big step up from using PS2 engines made to run on the GC and wii.

so i also wish the devs the best of luck in their licencing business (they do intend to licence it).

I understand that the Wii isn't powerful enough to make a photorealistic game ala COD4. But there should be some realism on each console. In a way, this game stands out on the Wii because it is realistic and not abstract. Also, since when is the only way to make a creative game involve giving the graphics a cartoony, calligraphy-esque look? The game is making realistic graphics on the Wii, and is using the control scheme, enemy roster, weapon roster and "All-seeing Eye" tool to pump the game with creativity.

Also, I would love to hear which aspect of the controls aren't creative in The Conduit. You know, seeing as there hasn't been any announcements pertaining to it...

people criticize this game when its not even close to being finished, and yet they complain about a lack of 3rd party support on the Wii.

I think people putting this game down are admitting that they only play games for graphics.

I think this game looks like a typical FPS, which I didn't think highly of at first, but then I thought about the lack of typical FPS on Wii and realized that having an FPS like this on the Wii is unique in itself.

The screenies remind me a lot of HL2, which still looks good even though it's a 4 year old game. At least they have the guts to show real gameplay in their trailers unlike many other developers out there.

I think the game looks great and fun. I will defenitely keep my eye on this one.

The Conduit looks far from shovelware. If you want shovelware, check out footage of Ninjabread Man or the Kawasaki games. Where The Conduit differs from these other games (other than the visuals being far superior and the guns being creative) is that High Voltage is treating it as a labor of love, not an immediate profit machine. Besides, Halo was a generic FPS other than the fact that it had functional online and some creative guns.

People are giving this game no chance, and I fail to see why. All I can say is, if it bombs, don't whine about crappy visuals on Wii.

Perhaps we should all shut up, not gonna happen of course 8) . I'm definitely aware of that as well and I stated its promise clearly.

Still, you could say the exact same for the people that are looking into it as the possible second coming in the shooter genre. Because saying that it is the most promising game, based on what a few minute videos, is pushing it quite a bit in my book.

So in the end I agree completely with your reasoning. Only that it falls to both sides of the spectrum.

If it has the same control system as MP3 or Medal of Honour It could be alright.

Yeah I just played Heavenly Sword today at the Target display and was surprised how different the game actually looked from the the commercials and screenies. That game doesn't even look impressive at all. Not to mention the load time, yecky!

With weaker hardware you should focus more more stylised visuals, to make up for the lack of system power - why else does Mario Galaxy or No More Heroes look great.

And I never said the conduilts controls arent creative, I said that is what Wii developers should focus on and they currently are not. This game is only getting hype for the technology behind it as a Wii game. That alone isnt a good thing...
