[QUOTE="Ballroompirate"]I don't remember people begging for a change to the RE series when RE1 (ps1 and GC) has sold 4,1000,000 copies between the two,RE2 selling almost 5 million copies,RE3 selling 3.5 million and RE CV selling 3 million.....yeah I'm not seeing where people were begging for a change.IronBass
When the remakes of RE3 and Code Veronica X scored less than 7, and when RE0 sold less than million. Besides, people have been asking for improved controld/camera since the first game.

Um first off you stated the remakes of RE:3 and Code Veronica, the originals scored what 8.9 and 9.4 I think, very far from a 7.0. Plus the reasons to why the remakes scored so badly was because RE:3 a PS1 was ported to GC with no graphical or any update at all! It was a literal PS1 game on the GC of course it's going to score badily. Same thing for Code Veronica X it was originally a DC game but then ported to the PS2 with no updates whatever like a year + after it's release. So of course it's not going to do well. And Finally RE:0 on GC did sell over a million it sold like 1.3 million to be exact, the only RE:0 that didn't sell a million is the RE:0 port on the Wii.

I think that RE4/5 were great games just not good RE games. I liked the gameplay of both and the controls but I wasn't really scared and was confused becaused I remember RE had a reputation of being a horror game. I then did play but didn't complete the RE remake and RE0 and I did have the sense of fear and suspense that I didn't feel from RE4/5. It was mostly because of the setting. Zombies are way scarier than just some infected villagers. I think that there can be some mutual arrangement between the gameplay of RE4/5 and the setting, story, atmosphere of the originals. Until that happens RE4/5 will be great games in their own right just not as RE games.

Really??

[QUOTE="hakanakumono"] think the new formula is okay, and makes for fun games, but I'll always like the old formula better.

JuarN18

I never wanted the game series to change i loved resident evilWilliamRLBaker

You should read more carefully

Funny nether of those mention controls or camera, just formula which can mean the survival horror/darkness which 1,2,3 and gc remake had, which 4 and 5 pretty much lacked....a lot of,hell some people just miss the satisfaction of killing zombies.

and please stop randomly going through the topic to try to back up your point, hakanakumono pretty much stated the same thing that a lot of people have said in this topic, that we miss the surivival horror, the darkness and the sense of staying alive in the past resident evil games which has nothing to do with the past camera issues and "tank" type gameplay. This is honestly the last time I'm gonna say this since this will my 3rd time saying this in this topic, capcom should just combine the camera/over the shoulder, inventory and action sequence cut scenes that RE4 had and bring in the survival horror/darkness that RE1,RE2 and RE3 had into one powerhouse RE game.

I think they should keep some of the new, but change back the level design and how you progessed in the game. It seems to linear compared to the older ones.

[QUOTE="IronBass"]If they keep the quality of RE4 and RE5, the future of the series is an awesome one 8)hakanakumono

RE2, RE3, RECV, REmake, and RE0 were all high quality games too, you know.

Yes, that may be true, but that genre of game was dying, there aren't many games that had that style of gameplay now a days. But just because the old ones were great, doesn't mean the new ones are crap. I mean, RE4 was a great game and so far, RE5 seems to be entertaining as well. Change does not equal bad.

Of course. RE4 and RE5 are most certainly great games.

But the problem is that the change wasn't in the best interest in the series. Instead of taking what had begun to become old and change it to fit the goals of the series, they changed the goals of the series. Everything. It doesn't even resemble Resident Evil. Changes should be made with the best interests of the series in mind. RE4 moved the series over, but it didn't bring it forward.

And that made a lot of people happy.

And it made people left wanting. It doesn't justify it. They could have made the same people happy by introducing a new IP.

You could still follow your beloved characters by playing, gasp, a Resident Evil game with Resident Evil characters. And at the same time you could go and play Action Hero Ganado Conquest. Gasp, that's two great games! Imagine how great RE would be if they would have actually evolved the gameplay.

Fun logic: "I'm bored of playing Silent Hill but I like the characters. They should make Silent Hill an RPG so I can still follow the characters but don't have to play Survival Horror gameplay." This is a good idea, isn't it?

Actually, it does need justification. Justification for abandoning what Resident Evil stands for.

I've been playing Resident Evil since Saga Saturn and I don't think it needs "justification" ( ) as the series was going down hill since RE3.

No offense, but I think it's kinda obvious it doesn't. Sadly nor you nor me are somebody that can demand justifications.

I've been playing Resident Evil since Saga Saturn and I don't think it needs "justification" ( ) as the series was going down hill since RE3.

Then make it better. Not different. The problem is that Capcom didn't try to make it better, they just gave up.

Fyi, RE3, RECV, and REmake are all very, very good games, the latter easily being the best out of the series.

Edit: That's what this thread is all about. RE4 and RE5 were fun excursions, but let's take the spirit of the original series and make it better. And this doesn't mean abandoning everything done in RE4 & 5 either.

FYI you don't decide what is better or "very good" for everybody. I respect your opinion, but the series was getting tired, and redundant and wasn't appealing to a mass audience. Honestly, if you played every RE, as you say, I don't understand how you didn't see the series progressing in this direction.

You do realize that those are your opinions as well don't you?

I've played every RE yes. I'd say the problem with RE was that it was afraid of consistent change. It made a number of improvements, but it didn't stick with them. It was time for improvement in the series and an update to the formula, but they didn't really do that. That's the problem.

But honestly, REmake being imo the height of the series ... doesn't really indicate a decline at all. It never really declined, it just didn't improve.

Not one part of that post is an opinion. Before RE4 the Series had -Same tank controls -Same Arkward Camera Angles -Same enemies / enemy A.I -Same length in time Among other things, it was the same exact game over and over I.E Redundant and Tired. I.E fact / I.E not an opinion. RE4 was necessary.

It was time for improvement in the series and an update to the formula, but they didn't really do that.

But they did :|

That's the problem.

I don't see a problem.

doesn't really indicate a decline at all. It never really declined, it just didn't improve.

Decline in what :| That is a very vague sentence, elaborate.

No, it didn't bring RE forward it just moved it over to another genre. And guess what? RE5 is very smiliar to RE4 in the same way that RE2 was to one and so on.

It was a horizontal move, not a vertical one. I think you're failing to grasp what I'm saying. You've listed all the things that were supposedly the same while I've already recognized that there was need for improvement. I'm saying that RE4 wasn't the right move. It wasn't an improvement. They just changed it from a survival horror to a full blown action game. All the changes made (which was practically everything) were made so that RE acted more as an action game. RE4 isn't really better as a game than RE0. Two games with solid gameplay and poor plots.

Btw, the camera angles while difficult to navigate for some, were a breeze for me. I don't really see the problem with them; I think they're artful. The camera angles and control system aren't really bad in themselves, they're just difficult to get used to.

Opinion in your post: ""tired, and redundant and wasn't appealing." Your "fact" about the same enemies and AI is false, btw. The games introduced plenty of new enemies and AI. Each game had it's own unique and distinct monsters, for example, lisa trevor. There were also the Crimson Heads which were a big step forward for the series. Sadly, they didn't follow through into RE0. If RE0 had actually expanded upon this phenomenon I wonder if it would be seen the same way.

"I don't see a problem." So you're saying the series didn't need change?

"Decline in what" The series of course.

Anyways, all of this aside, clearly improving and capitalzing upon the original survival horror spirit of Resident Evil is in the series' best interests.

Resident Evil is dead. It's all about action now and with no zombies or survival horror, it's dead, it has no future. These last two action games may have a future, but they aren't Resident Evil.

I think there is a lot of nostalgia going on from those who don't like RE4/5. I personally like the current action aspect as well as the old skool versions.

I do agree that they should bring back proper zombies and big mansions.

I can see how for some it would be that way. But I played the entire series just before RE4 was released (starting in 2004). I was very excited about it. And while it was a lot of fun, after playing it it left a bitter taste in my mouth. I never realized the series was so great and enjoyed the series very much so, so for RE4 to take what I had recently discovered was so great and simply throw it away within the first five minutes of the game ... it just hit me later on that something great died and that RE was RE no more.

Of course. But what's wrong with RE6 offering survival horror? :)
