Ok guys, due to the huge amount of nominations, I will no longer be listing the nominees with their respective posters in the OP. Instead, I will just tally up the counts for each game and post the counts every few hours, while also verifying that no one is cheating by posting twice. I should have the preliminary top 5 up within the hour.

I, Banankraken, nominate Battlefield 1942 as the greatest FPS of all time.
The demo was magical, full of unicorns and rainbows. No one had ever before experienced an experience like the experience they were now experiencing. It was for all intents and purposes, a total cluster****. Everyone was running around in circles and flying planes into trees. No one cared about actually playing the game, everyone was just dumbstruck by the design of the game and sputtered around in their vehicles. Like treehugging hippies they were. I doubt any game ever will be as revolutionary and freaky as my first venture into BF1942. Also, you could drive the humongous carrier. I didn't realize it back then, but that was freakin crazy. And then with mods, you could fly it. Ahh, BF1942, you crazy sonofa*****.

How bioshock, a game that hasnt even been out that long, is in the top 5 over counter strike, halo 2, unreal tournament, and doom is beyone me.ice144
Well, that's just it. The beauty of this thread is that it show what FPS'sSW likes best; not necessarily which games are the absolute best critically.
This thread is all about opinion.
Oh, and this is just the nomination process; even if Bioshock stays in the top 5, who is to say that it will win the actual vote? The same goes for the other 4 titles.
And, if this comforts you any, Half-life 2 is the most nominated title by a large margin.

I played almost all the FPS people have nominated here. And all the other features you can do in your FPS, I can do in Tribes here and a lot more features.
Does your nominated games allow the tactical use of sensor network and deployable turrents? Does your nominated games have a simplified sytem that can issue commands quickly with a few shortcut keys? Does your nominated games allow the use to vehicles, on the ground and in the air? Does your nominated games allow mods? Does your nominated games allow hugh maps outdoor and indoor or both? Does your nominated games have a variety of weapons where each is useful in certain combat situation? Does your nominated games allow sliding? Does your nominated games have different backups, like jumpsets, cloaking, shield generator, jammer? Does your nominated games allow differnet armors where each is useful? Does your nominated games allow your to control some of the turrets? Does your nominated games allow 32 players max? Does your nominated games allow a simplified way of finding a server and connecting to it quickly? Does your nominated games allow Free online play?
