"there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in"
"The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in"
Seems like the PS3 version is just visually overall better.EVOLV3
That sentence reads that framerate is identical, PS3 just has less pop-in. Kotaku also notes better edging, color, and night-time presentation on the 360 version, which is contradictory to other sites. Which means that it's basically a wash. They're no different. They're the same.

where are all the advertisements? the only place ive seen this advertised was inside gamestops, blockbusters, and the internet. where are all the kick ass tv ads?
i havent noticed any

I haven't seen one TV commercial either...(albeit I don't watch a lot of TV, but still)
ive seem loads in the uk, for 360 version.
Kudos to MS....they really wanna get crackin' out there with the price drop and advertising GTA 4 heavily so it iseems...

The thing said 'The slight visual edge goes to the PS3'
It's slight, but what does that have to do with selective reading skills? Sheesh...it's the actual article.
And 'framerate hithces here and there (especially on the 360)'
thats not what ign was saying they were saying "and particulary on the 360 there are some pop in issues
if you read other reviews they say 360 has the better framerate

ok his argument is silly, it says both have the same framerate but some isses and then GOES ON TO SAY the 360 has particualrly noticable pop-ins because of the lack of install.
can we please stop this petty argument, the difference is so very slight. we need to get back to rubbing the 10 in the faces of the sheep, come tuesday everyone will say 'super smash brothers what?'

THRONE! you've been in this thread long enough to notice the 10 times we've knocked people for not being able to read the AND in that sentence. why are you now forgetting it? lol.
and take pros and cons from ALL reviews, not just IGN. kotaku gives nods to the 360 for framerates, and knocks the PS3 for abusing a 'paint' feature used to hide flaws saying it looks 'streaky' at night time on the PS3 due to all the masking. PS3 has less pop-in due to a mandatory install (which is a bit of ownage in itself, nobody likes the mandatory installs)...
i don't see why anyone can't see how even steven things come out when you read all pros and cons from all reviews.. like ive said before - the fact that neither has outscored the other should be a good freaking clue as to the differences and what they boil down to.
i'm finished trying to keep the fanboy FUD down, if you guys want to try to claim ownage on a multiplat go nuts - just gonna look foolish doing it with a game that is getting 10s on both sides of the board - talk about splitting hairs.

How many other reviews have there been that compares both? EGM said Ps3 looks visually better, all I can think of is Kotaku.

in regards to POP-IN. and kotaku says the same thing, but also says the 360 has a better more smooth / consistent framerate. tit for tat.
here, another PS3 flaw for the cows - seeing they want to split hairs:
I noticed that the paint filter applied to cover some of the game's imperfections appeared a tiny bit muddier on the PS3 version, with night time scenes seeing more streakiness.
from kotaku.

No, the "particularly on 360" comment refers to the pop-in, not the framerate hitches.
"there are framerate hitches here and thereand (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in"
If there were more framerate issues, "particularly on 360" would be BEFORE the bolded/underlined "and", however it's after, which means it's referring to the 360 as being affected moreso by pop-in.

read the article ffs before you start labelling them as biased. it was written by mcwhertor, the cow from kotaku. he says in the end he's getting the ps3 version..

IGN commented that 360 has better colors as well, and in Kotaku's review they gave the visual edge to the PS3, and the reviewer said he was going to get the PS3 version because he liked the DS3 and the performance edge more.

Maybe my perception is way off...but when IGN mentioned that, then blew it off saying it was slight, seemed like a contradiction to me. How can you have "particularly noticeable pop-in" and framerate hitches (which IGN also mentioned), and it somehow just be "very slight". If pop-in is so ridiculously noticeable in Xbox 360, then it isn't "very slight". "Very slight" indicates that the pop-in would BARELY be noticeable...not "particularly noticeable". I'm a little concerned that IGN is downplaying the issues with 360 GTA IV just because the game itself is so amazingly good.

Im not saying theyre bias...they (Kotaku) say at the bottom of that kotaku article that if they had a choice they'd pick up the PS3 version lol..... im just saying that muddy paint filter thing is the first ive heard

Don't know if everyone knows about this yet, but IGN gave GTAIV a perfect 10. Just amazing.-Wheels-

This thread is ridiculous.
Both versions have their pros and cons. It's a matter of prioritizing. What's more important to you? While the pop-in is unfortunate, I'm perfectly happy with getting the 360 version for reasons I prioritize. I feel custom soundtracks, DLC, community and my preference for the controller outweigh any cons and are more important to me than faster load times, less pop-in and whatever else there is. And I don't feel the urge to try to convince others that my opinion is the only right one.
id just like to say it once more...

You could say Hermits owned as well. There was an interview that just announced that there are no plans for a PC version of GTA IV.
Also the GT review was done solely on the 360 and I might have seen one or two popups and hardly any framerate issues.
So far my favorite game of the generation is yes, Mario rehash # 93.let me guess, for you its Mario rehash # 93?
Sgt_Grig
i dont know why people NEED custom soundtracks for GTA....theyve always had incredible music and radio talk on their games and it appears that it hasnt changed yet...I love listening to gta's stations over my own as they feel more seamless in the gta world with the ads etc
If i put custom soundtracks into vice city it wouldnt have been the same.

I don't think thats gonna matter as much. Both communities are gonna be huge when this game comes out. Both versions are selling by the millions.
You do have a point with the mic though. I get on and hardly anyone has or uses one. Still a mic in GTA would be kinda useless. Everyones mentality is gonna be to shoot this or blow that up lol
anyway, can't wait till monday night.

true actually now that i think of it i dont know how good it will be to have 13 year old kids trying to be gangsters on the mics lol
Man this game is goin to be GOTY for sure, I mean look at the scores, we have never seen these kinds of scores before in a longtime
Well cept for SSBB

The soundtrack is surely ace as usual, but some Benny Hill makes anything marvelous. Once you're done with the whole immersing yourself in the game world thing and are just messing around it's nice to have the option to play silly music, or whatever else you feel like. Shame Rockstar wouldn't give you the option for "real" custom soundtracks though. "It doesn't jive with the tone of the game" or some such was the explanation given. Will sure it potentially doesn't, that's why it's an option. Oh well.
