360 version.....
I really do hope the PS3 version does not come anywhere close to this much pop in...this is distracting as Fk...Afrikanxl
Thats pretty bad.

I hope that was just a little isolated incident. I'm strongly considering purchasing a PS3 right now.

Haha, that looks pretty bad actually. The second one appears to be just after a cutscene or some such so I guess it's a bit forgivable that a building suddenly pops up. The first one on the other hand... It's like the game is telling the player "Don't drive on the sidewalk god dammit!" Hopefully it's not that frequent.

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster

In that case they better patch it, cause that **** is unforgivable. He says the game is running off of the HDD, but if anything that would make things load faster wouldn't it?

again, it's running from the HDD on a modded 360 there is no way that's how bad it is running proper from DVD. the code would've been designed around DVD streaming, not accessing the rather slow 360 HDD.
if it was that bad there's no WAY this game would be getting 10s on the 360.

I would say not.. because the game would have been optimised for the DVD drive.
I havn't noticed any popins in any of the videos I have watched yet.
those two pop-in videos are running from a modded 360 HDD - not proper from DVD. of course these cows didn't say that when they brought them in here :P 3picuri3
well I linked to the post.....and it does say its running from the HDD.... I can't comment on how bad it will look running from the disc....I remember clips of Mass Effect having the same problems.... but those took much longer to load...and that was from a disc.....so I wouldn't be suprise if it was similar....
I'm no cow, but I do only own a PS3 and again I just hope it doesn't have that kind of popin......
If the the critics that have had a chance to review the game already are correct, and the game is all that, MS made a legendary and brilliant move on behalf of their system by securing DLC.
When the first issue hits the differences in the game will be very far from superficial.
[QUOTE="Afrikanxl"]Wow, that's prettybad. :?MoldOnHold
running off the 360 hdd. modded. the 360 hdd interface is around usb speed and the game is designed to precache off of the dvd... it does not look like that based on all the videos we've seen of it online -- like the one in your sig, that was running off the 360 version :P do you see bad popup?

Hah, that's good to hear. :D And I don't think I've seen a trace of pop-up in the sig clip.[QUOTE="InsaneBasura"][QUOTE="Afrikanxl"][QUOTE="CStheGreat"]****.

Yeah right. But a 5400rpm HDD still has a faster transfer rate than a 12xDVD.
Quick Google search says
DVD: 16MB/s
HDD: 60MB/s
So if anything things would load faster.
The guy just said he's running it on a devkit, so...
And then there's the Kotaku guy saying it's the same for the retail disc version. So...

actually it turns out it is running from a Devkit..... he must work in the field..... other members know him... I doubt he would BS, because the MODS at GAF don't F'around....they confirm certain members for who they are...or else they ban them...
This is sad, Both Ps3 and 360 guys should be Happy right now the game is coming out for both systems.
Still getting the 360 version. The DLC will be on the HDD so less pop in for that.
Truth_Hurts_U
When the DLC hits it will be like a huge bomb. Cow parts every place.
This is one game I am going to own both versions of. 360 DLC and MP. Ps3 my one friend who owns it (the black sheep, besides myself I guess but I own both) and the SP.
I think the DLC would be using the same graphics engine.. which is on the disc, so the DLC should technically perform the same.
user_nat
Once the engine is loaded... There is no need to load it again. Some textures will be on the disk and some other things like radio stations. So if anything, it's going to be an improvement. Since part Disc will be used and part HDD.
And suddenly the damage control was silenced...
Might have to be getting the PS3 version as well, cause the pop-in seems to be total ass. I thought critics were exaggerating as usual, but instead they appear to have understated the problem.

na if the popins were that bad the game wouldent of been getting the reviews its been getting, and the reviewers would of mentioned how bad it was

You shouldn't worry... I seen so much 360 gameplay over the past 3 days. I don't even have the urge to play GTA IV right now. :P
The pop in isn't that bad.
I seen the PS3 version played a few times. The only difference I seen is that the shadows are a little worse on PS3... But the cars on 360 seem more top heavy.
I practically have the first island memorized now. I regret it now... I'm a bad boy!

Someone else said in early in this thread that the 360 HDD isn't as fast as a usual hard disk due to its USB based connection (so that it can be removed easily). Donno how much difference that would make though.
edited for bad quoting.
edit: After further looking into things and neogaf posts.. I don't think the HDD would really make much difference, so its possilbe the the retail version will contain popins like them GIFs.
Atleast its not as bad as my old PC played Vice City, you could be driving around in that, and one minute you were driving around in a fully loaded place and then you would cross over into the land of no textures.. or buildings.. or more annoyingly, bridges.

wasnt that click taken from a pirated version of the game burned onto a crappy disc?

Well he's a pretty solid poster with no allegiances to any console so take from it what you will. I don't care either way, but people need to give up on this **** cause it's getting ******* tiresome and the game aint even outtill Tuesday.
