the reviews that compare them say that the ps3 version still has pop in, but it is reduced. It probably isn't a very significant improvement or else they would have mentioned it (right?)GunSmith1_basic
thats what me thinks also ive seen alot of gta4 in game footage and did not see a big problem with the popins

wow, the pop-in in these gifs is so bad maybe we should assume they are not the game until we can see it for ourselves.
-to be fair, that car is probably pushing the limits since its driving fast. So maybe that is the game
i havent been following up on this thread. but a friend told me on cod4 the other day that gta4 got a 10 on ign, reviewed by hilary goldstein (hes a bit of an ass, not totally, just a bit).
a 10, hmmm... idk about that. i understand that gta's an amazine game, but a 10? i remember listening to a podcast with matt cass and mark boz, and they both said, "i dont ever see myself giving a game a 10. in order for a game to recieve a 10, it has to blow me away, and go above and beyond in almost ever aspect (not a derect quote. they were talking about super mario galaxy. if there's a game out there that deserves a 10, that's it imo)" i just simply dont see gta 4 doing that. is it an unbelievable jump from san andreas? is every aspect of the game tempt perfection (notice i said TEMPT) without noticable flaws in the game? i doubt that. i know there those who'll say, "well if u dont think games should achieve that, then y would they even set a 10 as an attainable score?" well, like they said in order for a game to recieve a 10, it has to blow me away, and go above and beyond in almost ever aspect, and, every aspect of the game tempt perfection (notice i said TEMPT) without noticable flaws. guess ill have to just wait play the game to see...
has a game ever recieved a 9.9?
[QUOTE="InsaneBasura"]Yeah right. But a 5400rpm HDD still has a faster transfer rate than a 12xDVD.
Quick Google search says
DVD: 16MB/s
HDD: 60MB/sSo if anything things would load faster.
The guy just said he's running it on a devkit, so...
And then there's the Kotaku guy saying it's the same for the retail disc version. So...user_nat
Someone else said in early in this thread that the 360 HDD isn't as fast as a usual hard disk due to its USB based connection (so that it can be removed easily). Donno how much difference that would make though.
edited for bad quoting.
Dude says all other games he has run from the HDD have loaded faster.

Once again, no one cares. Trees and signs popping up in front of (and behind...) you on the other hand actually do hinder the gameplay.
Stop getting hung up on these petty details. How many times have we heard from multiple Rockstar employees and reviewers that they are near identical?
You guys are taking one guys gifs and basing them as proof and fact when the truth is he's running off a devkit with the game loaded improperly from the HDD. Regardless if this alleviates the problem or not, it's still an augmented way of playing, thus we cannot use it as certainty.
Watch the gametrailers review which was shot from the 360 or some of the GTAIV gameplay on here that was shot from the 360 as well. I for one barely see any glitches or pop in (that's not to say i don't believe that there aren't any). Just wait and most of all, be happy we're getting it on Tuesday.
Sometimes, you guys really amaze me on how much you guys can **** about something so small. But of course, my post will be lost amongst the masses of "OMG 360 VERSION AM INFERIOR LULZ"...oh well, at least I tried.

I've been playing the game since mid friday on the PS3. Not once did it force me to use motion controls. It mentions once that they're available, but I have to turn them on. the most infamous score that gs ever gave was arguably the 10 for thps3. It probably got that score because that game blew thps2 out of the water, and yet thps2 got a 9.9...

Makes me happy too. Well done.
I'm going to assume that the pop-in will not be that terrible in the final game. A) There is no way it would have gotten a 10 on IGN and all of these others sites and B) The Gametrailers review has plenty of footage and I barely noticed any pop-in.
Of course, we won't know until Tuesday, but oh well.
Rockclmbr6
but I wonder why IGN wrote that it had FAR LESS pop in..... they used the word FAR..... they could have stuck with slightly like they were for most of the review...but it seems like that was one time they were not holding back...its like they were trying to be carefull in not slamming the game for pop ins..... but they used the word FAR LESS, when comparing to the PS3 version....makes you wonder why they used those words...
For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

If this guy was running a retail copy of the game off a production 360 and had at least some credibility that can be verified, I would be worried too. Failing in just one criteria renders his little fun animations useless (not to mention he failed to meet all 3). Pop-up this bad is worrying regardless if he's playing it from the hard drive of a devkit or the beak of a duck. A publisher wouldn't willingly provide the press with review builds containing such assy pop-in. The difference between review and retail builds would be as minimal as possible. Both a Kotaku dude and 1UP back up his experience. IGN's comments give him further credibility.

I'm sayingRELAX! I'm not denying the fact that there won't be pop-in's for the 360, I'm merely suggesting that, until the game is released Tuesday early morning, we hold judgement and worry and just take in all the positive reviews about this game. With all the good things said, it just seems silly for everyone to get hung up on some gifs showing a couple incidents where pop-in was more than what was speculated or percieved to be.
Is that too much to ask for?
=)
Frame Rate
The Grand Theft Auto series has never been synonymous with a rock solid frame rate, something it generally seems to get a pass for. While GTA IV is smoother in general than it's predecessors, it can expectedly suffer during chaos. The Xbox 360 version seemed capable of achieving a smoother frame rate, peaking higher in certain circumstances, such as in confined spaces or during light traffic, but both versions seemed to regularly run at a similar clip.
Pop-In & Loading
With a huge, seamless streaming world, data must be constantly read from the disc. The PS3 version, with its required HDD install, loads missions a couple seconds faster and decreases pop-in. The Xbox 360 version can suffer from some very noticeable texture loading, as things like trees, vehicles and building signs will regularly pop-in as one tools about town. It can be distracting, especially during high speed chases, and the PS3 version isn't entirely immune from it, but it's not a game killing problem.
Graphics
The two versions are so close to identical, visually, that putting together a comparison was a challenge. Initially, it appeared that the PS3 suffered from more noticeable aliasing than its 360 counterpart, but after eyeballing the final retail copy, they appear to be on par. I noticed that the paint filter applied to cover some of the game's imperfections appeared a tiny bit muddier on the PS3 version, with night time scenes seeing more streakiness. Some of these minor complaints may be the result of our particular television settings and require the finest of fine tooth combs to assess.
So both version are the same, besides the xbox360 having more pop- in,i don't know why sony fanboys are trying to claim ownage over graphics when both version are actually the same.
