The Halo Series has made FPS's with a controller very welcomed.

pc gamers are the only ones who bring up a mouse when talking about FPS's.

Halo has brought FPS's mainstream on consoles. And FPS's on consoles are only gonna get more popular.

Soon when you say FPS people are gonna think consoles. Halo, Killzone etc...

i bet right now if you launched any FPS at the same time on a PC and Console like 360, itll sell the most on the console.

Games like Halo + Consoles going Online is making FPS's a big deal on consoles. a Monitor and mouse is the old way.

You must be joking. There's no way in hell I'd ever choose a console controler over a mouse+keyboard setup. You've obviously never played a PC FPS. Mouse is FAR superior.

Oh, and Timesplitters was the first game that used both analog sticks. Halo isn't popular because of its "omg awesome controls" just its gameplay and storyline (which I enjoy).

Put it on a PC first and I wouldn't even touch the hexbox version.

*sigh* More Halo 3/Xbox 360 bashing? Do you really need to try to do this on every thread?

I could never get the hang of PC FPS. The mouse always seemed a tad too sesitive and loose. Then if you turn down the sensitivity you mine as well just use a gamepad. Plus analog stick movement >>> wasd times a million! Also triggers >>> left click times a hundred million.

personally i never got why people feel keyboard and mouse are that much better. i like the feel of controllers in FPS's i don't mind them at all. yeah they may not be as fast as a mouse but feels more comfortable. but back to halo, seriously halo is a fun seris but besides CE i don't see whats so great about CE

I used to play PC FPS alot. The controls are pretty good but honestly it's not going to blow the controller away unless you want absoloutely pin point accuracy. Both are highly enjoyable though and people shouldn't avoid PC FPS or console FPS just because they feel the other side is inferior in any way. Both work fine.

i think its only cause some of the fps require high system requirements. give me a choice of pc or 360 and i'd choose pc anyday if it could run.

I have to disagree. The main reason most people THINK FPS feels better on a console is because of things like autoaim. It doesn't require much skill, but it's a necessity--the precision is nowhere even close. So, I'd say PC gaming is more dynamic. I'm not constricted by what resolution the game is allowed to run, I'm not constricted by the controls, and with mods and patches the whole experience is much better.

If any FPS--PS3, Xbox or Wii were to come out with a simulataneous launch of a PC version, unless the PC version had really bad performance or was missing content, I'd choose it simply because consoles are so contricted.

I can overclock my PC, upgrade it, and change the config files within every game. Consoles will never be like that because Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo doesn't want morons screwing around with the inner-workings. PC is totally different and I'm glad that open-endedness is there.

So, basically, the only reason I even touch consoles is for the games. No way in hell is it for the graphics, the price, the capabilities, or the controllers and periphials.

Actually the idea is to keep the sensitivity low and move your arm faster.

And now the question is whether Halo will also make RTS feel comfortable on the consoles?

yes, auto aim. the only reason i was able to kill in halo 2. wish i had waited to get halo 2 on pc now. but then no one can play with you when they are over.

Its because you can run in a donut formation while keeping your aim in one direction on a console, which you can not do with the mouse keyboard combo. The four directions are the only places you can move when keeping the aim focused on one point using keyboard/mouse, while the controller lets you move in the 360 degrees.

I can see your point but I was just talking about playing the FPS on a console or PC. PC beats consoles hands down in extra features like mods and things of that nature, and not just in FPS. Autoaim is neccesary, but it doesn't ruin games unless it's overdone. Halo 2's auto aim almost ruined it for me but the gameplay was so good I didn't mind all that much. Console shooters do take skill though. Have you ever seen those no-scope videos from Gears of War? Yes there is auto aim, but that doesn't mean there's no such thing as a tough shot because of it.

Both PC FPS and console FPS require skill to seriously own at but in the end the PC has the advantage because it's controlls are simply sharper. Allbeit, the sontroller isn't a stroll in the park when it comes to those crazy shots.

I would have to agree with this one. And with the analoge stick you can make your character move at more speeds than you can with a keyboard.

No you can not. Go enter any PC FPS and keep your characters aim facing the wall, run in a donut formation without touching the mouse. A controller could do this, with only one analog stick.

That's practically the only advantage. Even so, most games don't implement a great degree of speeds. There's usually just two: walk and run. That I can get in a game of Half-Life 2 and Oblivion--it's called the shift key.

But for adventure games, I can admit, consoles are much better for that (assuming you don't know how to plug a 360 controller into the USB port of your PC..yeah)

If you check reviews for Halo CE the reviewers have said that the controls of Halo make FPS's on consoles possible. But there is a drawback and that is the speed of your player usually has to be slowed down.

Even if you press two keys at a time you at most move in an octagon. I understand the greater degree of movement in a console is not that much of an advantage in a FPS, but you seriously cannot deny its there.

Thats not the point, and he wasn't talking about percision. With the analogue stick you can move in any patern without having to aim elsewere. I don't even know why you are trying to deny this... it's not like were bashing the keyboard or claiming that the controller is more percise when it comes to aiming :S

Um I would think it depended on the game, in Halo for instance the reticles are so big that precision does not matter as much. On any regular FPS you can use the precision to your advantage I'm sure.

The N64 shooters (Goldeneye and Perfect Dark) took console FPS to a new level, not Halo.

In my opinion, the more control you have the better the FPS experience is so:

Yes, and Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were made by Rare, a company which Nintendo lost a while back.

Actually, I don't think Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were ground-breaking in the FPS department. More like a perfection of what was already there. Timesplitters was the "ground-breaking FPS" and that was on the PS2.

I will admit there is a greater deal of precision when using a keyboard and mouse, but that was not really the point of this thread. I was not posting to say that controllers are better than a keyboard and mouse, only to state that there is an advantage which the controllers have.Vylence

The only advantage a Controller has is preference.

[QUOTE="Vylence"]No you can not. Go enter any PC FPS and keep your characters aim facing the wall, run in a donut formation without touching the mouse. A controller could do this, with only one analog stick.Vylence

I'm sorry to see that you can't...

Even if you press two keys at a time you at most move in an octagon. I understand the greater degree of movement in a console is not that much of an advantage in a FPS, but you seriously cannot deny its there.

I disagree with that opinion. I believe the keyboard is still equal to or better when it comes to movement in fps. You see with a keyboard you can bind a direction of movement to each one of your fingers! Since the keys are buttons, and not a joystick, switching directions is done INSTANTLY. It takes a few miliseconds more to move a joystick back and forth than it does to press A and D. I would also like to point out that you can use the mouse to frag an opponents head before they can even commence "moving in a donut formation".

I would have to agree with this one. And with the analoge stick you can make your character move at more speeds than you can with a keyboard.

astiop

That is debateable. How is being able to control how slow your character moves an advantage? It's not like were powersliding around hairpin turns by feathering the gas, this is FPS pal. It can be argued that being able to switch directions instantly, and running at full speed as quick as possible is much more important for survival than being able to choose whether you can WALK at 1 mph or 3 mph. I have oneslow speed to choose from, and quite frankly that is all anyone else should need.

If you want to remain stealthy but the normal walking speed is too slow you can go a little faster while still not making sound. And anyhow, i'm not trying to argue what is more important, just pointing out that controllers don't come without any advantages.

Nice situation you created there.......maybe if you were playing something likeSplinter Cell, which isn't an FPS.
