I've almost completed Dark Souls on PC after months of slogging. (I've been playing other games as well)

Only Manus, Kahlameet, and Gwynn are left.

I must say that the DLC bosses, even Artorias, are harder than even the Lords like Nito or Seath the Scaleless.

I'm curious if some of you agree with me.

What is the hardest boss in Dark Souls, in your opinion, based on your relative soul level upon battling each boss?

Why?

Thank You.

Depends. Kenan and Kel if you don't have the DLC. Artorias if you're a mage or rely on range. Manus if you don't have a good shield/poise.

Never played the DLC. Hardest bosses on normal are Ornstein and Smough, hardest boss on NG+ is Four Kings.

I agree with Manus. Even with the Havel set, I still couldn't beat him.

I spammed pyromancy at the four kings and they died relatively easy. (on normal)

I agree with Giant Ornstein, but not electrified Smough.

Four Kings is a joke on normal, but they're by far the boss that gets the biggest boost by new game plus. They have like four times the health and hit crazy hard.

So is it worth playing it on NG? I mean most games become cheap at higher difficulty, but what about Dark Souls?

Four Kings or Ornsteain and Smough.

Every boss can be difficult enough if you don't have the right gear for it

Ren and stimpy, black drake in artorias (try cutting off his tail solo T_T, he's super easy other than that.), Gywn and Artorias I suppose.

Oh yeah. The amount of stuff you can't get in one playthrough/until new game plus alone makes it worth it. I didn't find it cheap at all.

I think I am well-equipped against Manus. I have a complete Havel set, good poise, and the Greatsword of Artorias. Also, I have all the great pyromancy spells.

Ornstein and Smough...is easy unless you kill Smough first and end up having to fight Giant Ornstein, which is crazy fast.

I don't get why people say killing smough first is harder, smough is infinitely more annoying in the 2v1 phase and powered up ornstein isn't bad to fight at all, plus you get that nice armour! It's only after I finished it saw comments people were saying ornstein is the one to get rid of first and I'm like... really? Haha.

Maybe it's because he gets ninja gaiden esque and I love those games. Probably the same reason I didn't have such a harder time on artorias like other people did.

i didn't play the DLC yet, i did ornstein and smough with an ally, so it went well. i heard so much about how hard four kings was, but i took him in one shot. nito is really easy lol, and seath is only hard if you're trying to solo it and get the tail. i honestly can't think of a boss that i'd call "the toughest/hardest".

bed of chaos is easier than pinwheel, because every inch of progress you make remains even after you die. so it's nigh impossible to NOT beat it in 3 or so tries (one for each node).

The boss that took me the longest/ was most challenging was probably, Four Kings. It was a tough fight.

I don't really think any of the bosses in the game were cheap. even Priscilla was perfectly doable.  And they actually, for the most part, got easier as the game went on. I beat Nito with hardly breaking a sweat, I beat Seath on my second try (took a while to get to him though ebcause I kept dying on the way to him because my controller is screwy), I beat Capra Demon and Twin Gargoyles on my first try, I beat Bed of Chaos on my third try (more of a puzzle really) I beat Pinwheel on my first try.

The game is hugely misconcieved as being impossibly difficult. As long as you take things slow, be cautious and only take risks when you're certain they'll pay off, the game is far from impossible. If you play stupidly, sure, the game is uber tough, but I found it to be highly exaggerated, because it jsut forces you to take your time rather than rushing through.

That being said, Gwyn was also a pretty tough boss. But even then I got a pretty good strategy built around my character and he fel in... Six tries I think?

He's annoying, Manus. He's not coll and he loves to spam his palm attack. Artorias is boss. Hands down the coolest, and most satisfying boss fight in the game and in all games

Against Nito just spam pyromancy spells. I beat him the first time I met him, too. And without sweating, too.

But I feel that pyromancy makes most of the game kinda easy.

Yeah my strategy consisted of staying jsut at the tip of his sword and only attacking when he tried to grab me or throw me.

I beat the entire game by myself since I'm offline, although I summoned phantoms a few times.

I have unlocked his zone, The Kiln of First Flame, but haven't approached 'room' yet since I have to beat the DLC bosses first.

Of course I can skip them, since they are optional, but once you beat Gwyn you beat the whole game. I want to beat them before starting the game on NG.

Didn't even need that. I managed to get behind him and just whaled on him. He never turned around fast enough to hit me and the skeletons were doing negligible damage to my characetr thanks to the armor I was wearing. The one time he used his AOE attack, I kidna panicked but aside from that he was a piece of cake.

I got the Drake Sword and the Gargoyle fell to my blade like peasants to a king. Same with Capra demon.

Also the only time a phantom really helped me was on my first plathrough fighting the Iron Golem... The phantom did the fight for me :P

Aside from that, phantoms are next to useless from what I've seen.

Pinwheel is a pushover, in my opinion. Bed of Chaos is one of the most irritating, arduous fights in the game since travelling across the lava lake to it each time you die is an unnecessary hassle.

So how does one experiment with new Ideas under those conditions ? Despite the various strategies available it still seems like theres only one effecient way for beating each encounter

Actually, most strategies are just variants of two main ways to play to game: as a ranged character, or a melee-centric character.

I beat the entire game alone too :) it's the best way to play through it first time I think. Really gives you a sense of isolation and hopelessness

1. Seath: I hit the 'radiating crystal thing' and just whacked him till death. However, he would regenerate his HP if one does not shatter the radiating object before, and he's a pushover, at least on normal difficulty, once you've shattered the said object. That's gimmicky. Forcing the player to 'solve' the boss is gimmicky.

2. Ceaseless Discharge: I went through the path that meets with another path (the one that leads to the black pyromancy robe set) and stood at the meeting (just in front of big rock/ block). The tip of his appendage lands just in front of it when he slams onto the ground. So in my case I just stood there hit it before he raised it back. Rinse and Repeat.

I thought you wouldn't play games that don't push your hardware to the limits.

I'll give you Bed Of Chaos ( :x ), but Seath and CD were neither cheap or gimmicky in my opinion

Well, Seath and Discharge are less gimmicky, but I could still sense a tinge of gimmick when battling them.

"having to put thought into it is gimmicky". you're pitiful, you know that?
