[QUOTE="Ravenshout"]

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"] why are seath and ceaseless discharge cheap and gimmicky?BrunoBRS

1. Seath: I hit the 'radiating crystal thing' and just whacked him till death. However, he would regenerate his HP if one does not shatter the radiating object before, and he's a pushover, at least on normal difficulty, once you've shattered the said object. That's gimmicky. Forcing the player to 'solve' the boss is gimmicky.

2. Ceaseless Discharge: I went through the path that meets with another path (the one that leads to the black pyromancy robe set) and stood at the meeting (just in front of big rock/ block). The tip of his appendage lands just in front of it when he slams onto the ground. So in my case I just stood there hit it before he raised it back. Rinse and Repeat.

"having to put thought into it is gimmicky". you're pitiful, you know that?

Shattering a crystal that will win you the battle is not a strategy.

Ornstein+Smough fight is what I call a fight that requires thought and reflexes.

shattering the crystal is what actually allows you to battle in the first place. it's just part of the lore, it's not gamebreaking, and it doesn't change the fight itself.

I would say Orstein and Smough when I first started playing. Now, everything is easy since I figured out that rolling has invincibility frames.

What? The 4kings is a complete joke the first time through. I was actually disappointed at them when I could just win by spamming pyromancy spells.

Probably four kings if you don't kill them fast enough. Depends if you have help as well. Demon Souls has harder ones though.

I prefer to use finesse in my games, which I didn't have much success with during the Kings.  Just equipped some heavy armor and mashed the attack button to victory fairly easy after I got bored of dying.

That's the one thing they need to change in Dark Souls 2.

The boss that gave me the most trouble was that giant one in the fire pit... Bed of Chaos I think. But that was because it was in my first playthrough, I was facing them super early and had terrible gear.

But the battle that give me most trouble of them all was those demons in the floor below the fortress, where you can baraly walk. Without the ring those fights are hell.

Other than that, fights are all about repetition and patience.

You can just tank the Four Kings though. Buff your sword with a magic and then dual wield a large sword like a Claymore and you can just go to town on them. All you have to worry about is timing your dodge when they first slash at you and then stay close to them.

The thing with Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, different bosses will provide different difficulty to different setups. I was a mage primarily, and had quite a bit of trouble with Seath. Granted, that was also because I was going after his tail. 4 Kings was somewhat hard, I beat it in 3 tries but I know I had some luck there too. Smough and Ornstein are probably the toughest I faced. Again though, that was with me trying to kill Smough first. Once I decided to kill Ornstein first, I succeeded on that first attempt. I wouldn't say I had trouble with the Iron Golem, but as a mage, I couldn't hack his feet until he fell. So I had to kill him the long way. Quelagg is probably the first real tough boss you face, especially if your underleveled/underequiped. I didn't really have a lot of trouble with the other bosses. Crystal Soulmass is pretty OP though, so that may be why.

The boss that took me the longest/ was most challenging was probably, Four Kings. It was a tough fight.

I don't really think any of the bosses in the game were cheap. even Priscilla was perfectly doable.  And they actually, for the most part, got easier as the game went on. I beat Nito with hardly breaking a sweat, I beat Seath on my second try (took a while to get to him though ebcause I kept dying on the way to him because my controller is screwy), I beat Capra Demon and Twin Gargoyles on my first try, I beat Bed of Chaos on my third try (more of a puzzle really) I beat Pinwheel on my first try.

The game is hugely misconcieved as being impossibly difficult. As long as you take things slow, be cautious and only take risks when you're certain they'll pay off, the game is far from impossible. If you play stupidly, sure, the game is uber tough, but I found it to be highly exaggerated, because it jsut forces you to take your time rather than rushing through.

That being said, Gwyn was also a pretty tough boss. But even then I got a pretty good strategy built around my character and he fel in... Six tries I think?

Ravenshout

So how does one experiment with new Ideas under those conditions ? Despite the various strategies available it still seems like theres only one effecient way for beating each encounter

Actually, most strategies are just variants of two main ways to play to game: as a ranged character, or a melee-centric character.

Yeah, not at all what I was expecting, Another thing I wana know about Dark Souls, do the Character Classes differ by lore or by actual function & application, last thing I want is to pretend theres a difference between a Knight and a Thief (something people don't notice because of "Immersion"), I still need to come up with a hilarous short hand for that concept, so if feel free to weigh in on that one.

All the bosses are pretty neutral if you have a good stat/weapon set up. But giant ornstein was a bitch though.

Honestly for me it was the Gargoyles. Onrstein and Smough are tough, but I got through them just fine. 4 kings are the biggest pushovers ever. Shit is just run up and go buck wild. Would be a lot more interesting if you had to deal with all 4(probably would also be a nightmare in anything other than coop). Of the solo enemies? I guess Sif so far for me. He's kind of easy if you have pyro upgrades, but he's just so quick and and aggressive. Really fun fight.

Four Kings.  After the first playthrough, you have to be pumping out some serious DPS to put him down before he gangbangs yo @$$

Even on the first playthrough, trying to get through the game at a low level, this is easily one of the toughest battles, near impossible... even considering shortcuts getting to them. I ended up having to summons a couple helpers...High level its a joke.

Sif was extremely easy for me. Though it depends when you fight him.

ALSO people should know there is a Sif easter egg in the DLC and if you find it before fighting him it changes how he reacts to you when you fight him. It's really cool

I fought him, I think after I rang the 2nd bell. So at that point I didn't really have a shield with the stability or damage resistance to handle his swipes, but once you get his patterns down he's doable.

The 4 kings I don't understand...I could see if you let them get after you sure, but just run up to them and go ham with whatever weapon that you SURELY should have upgraded by now considering you've more than likely taken care of most major areas by now. Especially the whole when one is dying you can keep hitting him, and that means the last ones hp is gonna be even lower. The only real annoying part is that they have that one move that takes away mad health and humanity.

Admittedly I was pretty suped up when I played the 4 kings. Black Knight Sword maxed, 20 +4 estus flasks, an ascended pyro glove, maxed out elite knight armor, but still I remember the gargoyles being the only time I felt like **** this nonsense" in terms of raw difficulty. Not an Alma among this group at all.

Worst boss fights in that game are definitely Pinwheel or Gywndolin. Gywndolin is just meh, and Pinwheel apparently I played too late.

It depends on NG+. I was helping people out and a guy summoned me and another guy and he had to summon us about 3/4 times because we kept getting ganged up on fast. We were all good level and skilled, the boss just gets really hard on replays. I didn't have much trouble with others that I can remember, but I haven't played the main game in almost a year and a half. I remember Demon Souls being really hard on subsequent playthroughs especially. I remember that spider boss or whatever in the tunnels being a rape artist.

Yeah you were pretty beefy against them then. I had to farm like a b!tch to bring up my endurance to carry heavier armor. havel's set FTW.

Also yeah Pinwheel is clearly the worst. You could beat him right at the start of the game. Gwyndolin is just annoying more than anything. That fvcking hallway.

gwyn is pretty lame but it makes sense for the story. Fallen warrior and all that

well, i wouldn't say a b!tch to navigate, but it sure as hell is hard to progress. they have the infamous nopedogs. you're walking around in the dark, you raise your skull lantern, you see this:

[QUOTE="Ravenshout"]

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"] i had some serious trouble going through the catacombs before sen's fortress (because SOMEONE told me that getting the rite of kindling earlier was a good idea). then i got to pinwheel and mowed it down in less than a minute.BrunoBRS

Honestly, the Tomb of Giant itself is a b**ch to navigate! I think it's harder than any boss in the game...

well, i wouldn't say a b!tch to navigate, but it sure as hell is hard to progress. they have the infamous nopedogs. you're walking around in the dark, you raise your skull lantern, you see this:

This pretty much sums up my reaction the 1st time i encountered it.

First time I played Dark Souls I went left instead of right, to fight the skeletons... I didn't know any better, so I kept going, and going. After too much hours I reached the closed passage that leads to Skeleton Lord guy.

Well... it wasn't nice.

Ornstein and Smough were a breeze for me. I had the most trouble with Queelag.

Manus and the Two Chimera fight if you go back to the beginning of the DLC after killing ManusBPoole96
yup, the double sanctuary guardian(chimeras) encounter is the hardest fight in the game imo (even though it's not a boss fight) Guys , after killing artorias go back to where you fought the sanctuary guardian, trust me you don't want to miss out on all the fun :P

[QUOTE="BPoole96"][QUOTE="Mandingo101"]Probably four kings if you don't kill them fast enough. Depends if you have help as well. Demon Souls has harder ones though.Mandingo101
You can just tank the Four Kings though. Buff your sword with a magic and then dual wield a large sword like a Claymore and you can just go to town on them. All you have to worry about is timing your dodge when they first slash at you and then stay close to them.

On the PS3 version I was up to around the 8th playthrough and I could still tank the Four Kings by myself. They also attack really slow so even if your about to die you can chug a few gulps of your flask and restore all your health before they knock you down. It is a pain if they start gaming up on you but if that happens you just have to focus on the one you started fighting first to even the odds again.

They probably killed me 20 times before I actually killed them. I was getting so pissed because they leave a bonfire right there before them so yu can immediately jump back in after you die. A couple times they disposed only me in less than a minute

Gwyn was annoying as hell. The rest were pretty easy. Some of them laughably easy.

Yeah those nopedogs or we they're called are the toughest enemies in the games. Much worse than any boss really.

Especially when you have to fight one as a Giant skeleton fires arrows at you and a Black Knight enters the battle too
