Nobody on this forum can't deny the impact of Halo on the industry, the fact that it could revolutionized the FPS and RTS and bring a genre PC-exclusive to the masses. The only proof that you need is the fame of the Halo name, you could ask a random person about Halo, and there's 99% chance that they know what Halo is, or the have played it already. You could say Half-Life and you'd luckily get responses.

Halo has pioneered the following in videogames:

-Dual wielding
-Recharging personal shields (every FPS today copies it)
-Dedicated grenade button
-Dedicated melee button (melee is actually useful in Halo)
-Complex characters (master chief, arbiter)
-Involving and deep storyline
-Saved the Xbox
-Made LAN parties cool
-Saving and sharing replays
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor
-Perfectly streamlined online play
-Vehicles
-It is so good that games nowadays are referred to as "Halo clones," and some, like Haze, try to be a "Halo killer"
-Orchestral music (before it everything was just bleepbloop synthesized music)
-AI that becomes more intelligent on higher difficulties instead of just having more health.

Halo was not innovative. But, hot damn, it had a collossal influence. It really did prove that consoles could pull off a PC quality FPS. Is it the best console FPS? No. That title belongs to the one and only Perfect Dark. You can cry "single analogue" all you want, but you cannot escape the greatness of that game.

No FPS game has throughout the years provided such an excellent, epic and brilliant adventure that Halo did back in 2001. If you've played it, it's hard to deny it. 8 years have passed soon, but Halo truly is the most brilliant first-person shooter ever. It doesn't seem like it can be transcended.

I like Halo, but Perfect Dark had more replay value than it single player wise.

Allow me.

-Dual wielding - Unreal tournament had this...
-Recharging personal shields (every FPS today copies it) - I hate this **** but I give you this.
-Dedicated grenade button - Omg teh innovationz!
-Dedicated melee button (melee is actually useful in Halo) - Not too sure on this one...
-Complex characters (master chief, arbiter) - NO! Defianetly not.
-Involving and deep storyline - No...
-Saved the Xbox - How does a launch title save a console?
-Made LAN parties cool - No...
-Saving and sharing replays - Not too sure
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor - I'll give you this one, but then again I'm not sure.
-Perfectly streamlined online play - No.
-Vehicles - Omg teh innovationz!!1!
-It is so good that games nowadays are referred to as "Halo clones," and some, like Haze, try to be a "Halo killer" - Halo Killer is a term used by extreme fanboys, it has no meaning outside SW.
-Orchestral music (before it everything was just bleepbloop synthesized music) - Absolutely not.
-AI that becomes more intelligent on higher difficulties instead of just having more health. - No they don't.

Alright, you are starting to lose ground here. I did play it when it came out. I remember my radio station giving away free xboxs with a copy of Halo weeks before release. I remember everyone loving it, and I remember playing it. It was brilliant. But you are getting carried away here.

Let me give you a counter point. But before I do, let me restate that Halo is indeed amazing. That is the assumption for my counterpoint. Now, to use your reasoning against you, if YOU were around during the time of Doom and into the modding scene throughout the years... like Quake 1, and Half Life; and played INNOVATIVE games like Tribes (that Halo heavily borrowed influence from), Halo would have lost it's "epic" impact on you. It's not a bad game at all. I find Halo is a brilliant game taking parts of existing games and piecing it together in a fresh and exciting way. That is the appeal of Halo for me.

[QUOTE="fdgfdgdfgdf"]the video game industry is dead, it's all cookie cutter bullshet. all the games the game, nothing off the wall really anymore just stale as hell. crysis gameplay feels like a superior halo about it, jumping feels almost exactly the same. halo gameplay sucks, has better textures than killzone2 though that games gameplay sucks even more than halo's though in some ways and in someways better.

Millions of people can't be wrong, they just prove how GAMEPLAY>GRAPHICS. While Halo 3 doesn't have the best graphics in the market it manages to be a lot better gameplay wise and salewise than those games you just mentioned that only have their graphics going for them.

Halo doesn't have a deep and involving storyline, at all...but your entire thread is debatable, but it was a copy and paste from another site.

I still think Halo Wars is a dissappointing shallow RTS though.

It may have been revolutionary by console standards but I, as I imagine many other PC gamers, don't see what makes it so special.

I had a go of the first one a while back, it was like any other FPS but slower.

I liked that bandaging yourself to stop the bleeding in DoD.

You had a choice of trying to kill the other guythen hope you have enough time to heal yourself or try and hide and hope they dont charge/nade you.

-Dual wielding - Done in blood back in 1997 and in UT1 in 99
-Recharging personal shields (every FPS today copies it)- okay the only one it did but it seems many peop;e prefer old system without recharging shield ( includes me)
-Dedicated grenade button- 108 button keyboard and you think this hasnt be done in pc games before?

-Dedicated melee button (melee is actually useful in Halo)- Same as above

-Complex characters (master chief, arbiter)- Hah i can say that even for dukle nukem 3d
-Involving and deep storyline- No no no no and no half life is much deeper than Halo and i dont consider its story that deep
-Saved the Xbox
-Made LAN parties cool- Hah pc games lan games since early 90's Unreal tournament, starcraft counterstrike, tribes, quake( that popularize online and lan play back in 90's),half life and many others were among the most popular games for lan games
-Saving and sharing replays
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor- keyword console
-Perfectly streamlined online play- ok? unreal tournament 1 or quake 1 anyone or counterstrike
-Vehicles - starsiege tribes and starsiege tribes 2
-It is so good that games nowadays are referred to as "Halo clones," and some, like Haze, try to be a "Halo killer"-and halo is a doom clone and doom a wolfenstein clone

-Orchestral music (before it everything was just bleepbloop synthesized music)-What? unreal tournament, half life and every freaking game from 96-97( with some exceptions of course) and after was using non synthesized music
-AI that becomes more intelligent on higher difficulties instead of just having more health.- Again half life

Yes Heavy metal f.a.k.k.
