Nobody on this forum can't deny the impact of Halo on the industry, the fact that it could revolutionized the FPS and RTS and bring a genre PC-exclusive to the masses. The only proof that you need is the fame of the Halo name, you could ask a random person about Halo, and there's 99% chance that they know what Halo is, or the have played it already. You could say Half-Life and you'd luckily get responses.
Halo has pioneered the following in videogames:
-Dual wielding - Goldeneye, Max Payne, Perfect Dark 64, Heavy Metal, and even Counter Strike had a dual weild
-Recharging personal shields (every FPS today copies it) - if you call that inovation... I call that one of the worst features to grace the gameing world IMO
-Dedicated grenade button - Giants Citizen Kabuto
-Dedicated melee button (melee is actually useful in Halo) - Duke Nukem 3d hada kick button
-Complex characters (master chief, arbiter) - Sorry space marines copied off the Doom Marine are not complex
-Involving and deep storyline - lolwut? i guess if Halo was your first game...
-Saved the Xbox - you can have that one because I never even cared enough about the xbox in the first place :)
-Made LAN parties cool - lan partys were either cool b4 Halo or are still not cool...
-Saving and sharing replays - Battlefield 2, Many RTS games, any even some Source engine games have HAD built in replay saveing
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor - never played it but I think Timesplitters had that, and Far Cry Insticncts and Pariaha
-Perfectly streamlined online play - PC games have had that for years...
-Vehicles - Again Giants Citiczen Kabuto, Tribes, Perfect Dark (Hovercraft) Goldeneye(Tank)
-It is so good that games nowadays are referred to as "Halo clones," and some, like Haze, try to be a "Halo killer" - and notice people arnt copying Halo because its good (My Opinion not yours its because it makes $$$$
-Orchestral music (before it everything was just bleepbloop synthesized music) - yes because Halo liberated us from 8 bit sounds
-AI that becomes more intelligent on higher difficulties instead of just having more health. - wait the AI actualy does that NOWAI!404-not-found
-Dual wielding : Rise of the Triad: Dark War, & Marathon. Both came out in 1994' and both have Dual Wielding Pistols.
-Recharging personal shields : I'll give it this one, Though other FPS Before It did have a type of Regenerating Health Systems (ex. Item Power-ups)
-Dedicated grenade button : Team Fortress Cl'ssic, 1999'
-Dedicated melee button : As Said before Duke Nukem had a 'Kick' Button.
-Complex characters : ... Halo isn't the First to have this, Hell It needs to have one in the first place.
-Involving and deep storyline : ^'Repeats'
-Saved the Xbox : ;)
-Made LAN parties cool : Unreal Tournament 99' Lan Parties was a hell of allot more fun then Playing Halo in my opinion. but this whole "I'm more Awesomeerrr then you, Because I play HALO" is just sad..
-Saving and sharing replays : Not the first, Say hello to every PC game out there.
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor : PS2 - TimeSplitters, 2000' & Xbox - Far Cry Instincts, 2005'
-Perfectly streamlined online play : Again PC ;)
-Vehicles : Tribes, 1998' Had Vehicles404-not-found
This has to be a joke/ or Fakeboy thread,
Lots of those features were done in many past games, BUT Halo made them popular, made them successful enough for future games to imitate them.
People in opposition to this topic need to understand this.
Question: Could you dual wield two separate types of weapons in other games before Halo? or did it have to be the same weapon?AAllxxjjnn
There a was a fun glitch in Goldeneye 64 that allowed duel wielding of different weapons. One of my favs was dueling a sniper rifle and a magnum.
Halo 1 made a huge impact. Microsoft exploited the success of the first game, and used exceptional advertising to market the successors that were average at best.
Impact = advertising. End of story.
I'm way to lazy to point out all the errors, but i'm sure some hermit who is not as lazy as me will.AAllxxjjnnWaaah. You've seen that movie?

-Dual wielding - Unreal tournament had this...
-Recharging personal shields (every FPS today copies it) - I hate this **** but I give you this.
-Dedicated grenade button - Omg teh innovationz!
-Dedicated melee button (melee is actually useful in Halo) - Not too sure on this one...
-Complex characters (master chief, arbiter) - NO! Defianetly not.
-Involving and deep storyline - No...
-Saved the Xbox - How does a launch title save a console?
-Made LAN parties cool - No...
-Saving and sharing replays - Not too sure
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor - I'll give you this one, but then again I'm not sure.
-Perfectly streamlined online play - No.
-Vehicles - Omg teh innovationz!!1!
-It is so good that games nowadays are referred to as "Halo clones," and some, like Haze, try to be a "Halo killer" - Halo Killer is a term used by extreme fanboys, it has no meaning outside SW.
-Orchestral music (before it everything was just bleepbloop synthesized music) - Absolutely not.
-AI that becomes more intelligent on higher difficulties instead of just having more health. - No they don't.
[QUOTE="fdgfdgdfgdf"]the video game industry is dead, it's all cookie cutter bullshet. all the games the game, nothing off the wall really anymore just stale as hell. crysis gameplay feels like a superior halo about it, jumping feels almost exactly the same. halo gameplay sucks, has better textures than killzone2 though that games gameplay sucks even more than halo's though in some ways and in someways better.404-not-foundMillions of people can't be wrong, they just prove how GAMEPLAY>GRAPHICS. While Halo 3 doesn't have the best graphics in the market it manages to be a lot better gameplay wise and salewise than those games you just mentioned that only have their graphics going for them.
Millions of people thought slavery was acceptable in the 1800s. Does that mean slavery is right?
Halo has pioneered the following in videogames:
-Dual wielding -Goldeneye says hi
-Recharging personal shields (every FPS today copies it) -for FPS's but regenerating health had already been done back on the NES!!!
-Dedicated grenade button -uhhh quake 2
-Dedicated melee button (melee is actually useful in Halo) -If you think that was the first game to have it, halo must have been your first game
-Complex characters (master chief, arbiter)-compared to alot of games the characters in halo are shallow
-Involving and deep storyline-Riiight halo was the one and only game to have a deep storyline sure buddy
-Saved the Xbox -pretty much
-Made LAN parties cool-LAN parties were never "cool"
-Saving and sharing replays-I could save replays since DOOM
-First ever console FPS to include a map editor-I could also edit maps in doom
Perfectly streamlined online play-I had perfectly streamlined play in CS and Quake
-Vehicles-ahem Tribes
-It is so good that games nowadays are referred to as "Halo clones- funny because I always considered halo to be a quake clone)
-Orchestral music (before it everything was just bleepbloop synthesized music)-Yeah right we had full orchestral music since the earlier star wars games
-AI that becomes more intelligent on higher difficulties instead of just having more health.-Hell Max Payne made the AI harder or easier depeding on how well you did in game....oh yeah and and if you consider intelligent AI to be AI that gets stuck behind boxes and in pathing errors... yeah halo wins.
I don't mind praising halo just don't say it pioneered stuff that it copied from other games....it's silly.

Give it a rest damn if its not KZ2 its Halo all the time SW is becoming real boring as of late.
Even more annouying is you TC you have no idea what your talking about.
OH AND THE 1st CONSOLE FPS TODO A MAP EDITOR is Timesplitters so go shove Halo for that reward god Halo's good but its not that good, get over it and play other FPS games and you will understand.
Saying that i can imagine most Halo Players love the low gravity and blatent Auto Aim features of Halo 3.
Halo Wars did not bring the RTS to the console market...... The Playstation helped achive that with Red alert and Command and Conquer years ago SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.
I don't care if people go through and list random obscure games that came out in 1994 that had dual wielding or vehicles or whatever, the point is that a game in 1994 had dual wielding and another had vehicles and another had a dedicated grenade button and another had a dedicated melee button, etc... but Halo brought them all together in one game. It's like sometimes I see people complaining that WoW has borrowed something from one MMO and has borrowed something else from another MMO, the point is that it's taking the best of every game and putting it into one, and that's what makes it so fun. Same with Halo - I have yet to see someone go down his list and fill in the same game as a counterexample to each of his posts.death919If he said "Halo was the first to have all of the following together in one game", I'd agree....but he didn't and he said halo "pioneered" those things. And most of the games I've seen listed weren't "obscure", more like they came before certain younger gamers time....It's like trying to go on about the history of music when all you have listned to is the Jonas Brothers and Hanna Montana.
He didn't say invented..he said pioneered, as in leading the way and improving on what was already there. As for dual-wielding I'd say that it certainly did make strides in that area, few FPS games had implemented dual-wielding as well as Halo 2 did prior to its release.
I don't understand why games such as UT is being brought up; I love that game..but the dual-wielding there (with the enforcers) is laughable when compared to how Halo 2 brought it to the table.

dual welding is the worst addition to the halo series. it add nothing more than spray and pray
online play is trash. you can't search for custom games so youre stuck with horrible matchmaking.
It made a huge impact on the console industry, yes.
Now, the only thing Halo has is it's name. Halo 3 was mediocre at best, and was the first halo game I didn't want to play again after trying it.
Best FPS ever is Halo? Not a chance. Call of Duty 4, Killzone 2, and half-life 2 definetly steal that show.
[QUOTE="Zhengi"]Halo Wars (aka 6.5 shovelware :P) has revolutionized the RTS genre? Really?!?404-not-foundReal World > Gamespot. Gamespot is the only review that gave it lower than A-AA. There is one thing I found out about fanboys, they use GS scores when they bash games they hate even if these games are good/great otherwise they like to play sales and speak how the "real world" supports a game considered to be a flop on their console. Ironic eh? On-Topic, the main savior of the Xbox is for sure Halo but the rest of your points are just..... for show.
while i am not a crazy Halo fan, i will admit it is the BEST FPS ever made on ANY platform, damn good fun it MADE me a shooter fan, but thats just my opinion, people can whine and tell me how wrong i am, still wont change my opinion lol
If by impact you mean conveying the idea that generic shooters are big money and must be churned out and consumed at breakneck speed, then yes, Halo has had quite the impact.
[QUOTE="GodofBigMacs"]Another influence: It doesn't matter whether or not the game is good or not. Advertise it a ton, and it WILL sell?404-not-foundI know, hating on popular things is cool and edgy. It also shows that you have a brain to think for yourself and not get pressured into what everyone thinks is cool.

nope, before halo ive always had a simple mindset on all shooters "They were suck" i prefered, Action,Adventure,Fighters, racing, survival horrors and anything but shooters, after Halo, i started buying shooters, even today the shooters i play cannot top the fun i had on halo multiplayer
