Gears has steriod meat heads little to no diversity in gameplay other than shooting and stoic self serious main character...... what high profile games coming out are copying that formula?

GD1551

You seriously asking that?

[QUOTE="casharmy"]

yeah,

the people in this thead saying gears are funny. There are not high profile games out or coming out that show devs trying to clone the feel of the game. Drake is a human every day guy who can get hurt, that's why Laura in the new tomb raider is being shown all baged up as some kind of highlight.

Gears has steriod meat heads little to no diversity in gameplay other than shooting and stoic self serious main character...... what high profile games coming out are copying that formula?

casharmy

So why are you asking the question when you apparently already know the answer?

because the answer was obvious.

people in this thread saying gears are funny. as I have said before, more influential. How is gears influencial when every new high profile game is trying to copy Uncharted cenematic, vonerable human, dynamic gameplay? At E3 we have big name devs put their most ambitions projects on display that were attemps at uncharted style game experience.

lol, how is gears more influencial. it's silly to say...did you even watch the vid I posted? it's obvious which is more influencial

Except the answer that you seeem to think is obvious, appears to be wrong

[QUOTE="Giancar"][QUOTE="casharmy"]

so what high profile devs are trying to make their games like gears? and what do you mean Gears came up first?

casharmy

Uncharted was influenced by it in some ways, then lots of games were influenced by the 2 Gears was the one who began this influence this gen. That being said, I´ve enjoyed more Uncharted games

Uncharted has third person based shooting and cover mechanics...other than that there are NO similarities between Gears and uncharted.

Having similar game play mechanics isn't the same as drawing influence from a game. You have those two mixed up.

Gears = hulking military guys whth big guns and foul language. ND did not draw and influence from gears at all but obviouly other games drew influence from UC gameplay, protagonist and style of story telling .

Honestly, the answer's obvious, but if you refuse to see it, so be it.

I would have to say Gears. Epic may have not invented the cover system, but they sure did perfect it - and now 100s of 3rd person shooters try to copy it. That doesn't take away from the Uncharted franchise, which is also great.

Wasn't Gears gameplay influenced by this? :(

Not the point of this thread though. It's supposed to be an uncharted circle jerk, but semi-backfired.

Not really buddy. assumption fail. I'm not even an Uncharted fan bud so you just circle jerking yourself here. I just noticed the total uncharted rippery when I watched the vid but to make people come to the thread I had to make an argument that brought fanboys to the thread.

anyways I facepalmed when I saw the game play and commentary of the character when the character was in action. I really feel like damn, I played uncharted I don't need to play a whole bunch of other games that are diffrent versions of the same thing.

umm...you already posted this, I read it and saw that it was a pointless post.

Why do you keep posting this? Sony told DN to make uncharted more "realistic" that in no way is copying any elements from anything put out in any specific game it's just an appeal to a certian kind of audience. lol, games have attempted to be realistic before gears and the overall feel and gameplay of UC is nothign like Gears so...yeah, again don't know why you posting that.

Games are just now starting to take hints from Uncharted but for the last 3-4 years we have seen games using mechanics from Gears of War. I think you need to know what you are asking when you say "influential" because your post just seem to be asking about copying. Being influential doesn't mean having similar characters, story line, or terms of realism, it has to do with the mechanics of the game and the gameplay. The cover system gears uses and horde mode have been very infuential in the gaming industry.

um, no, it really wasn't.

All stars is heavily inspired by smash bros...Gears and Uncharted are similar in only having cover mechanics and having 3rd person gameplay, nothing about anything in the uncharted universe is "heavily inspired" by gears

Hands down Uncharted. So many games have attempted to copy the "cinematic" elements. I love Uncharted, but that's done little but hurt the industry.

It depends on the context. Gears influenced Uncharted. I don't think that is debatable. However, Uncharted is influencing other titles that come after it *cough* Tomb Raider *cough*. That is kinda how video games work lol. Both have done good things for the industry, but without gears, there would be no uncharted.

The two games don't have much in common. Gears wasn't origional either, it took the 3rd person cover and shoot mechanic from a PS2 game called "Kill Switch". Uncharted borrowed the shooting mechanics from Gears but that's it, Uncharted however has influnced the ways stories are told in games and great gaming moments. It has won more awards than any other game this gen.

Uncharted is the better franchise, anyone who isn't a fanboy and has played both knows this. Uncharted is the better game, it has more respect in the industry than Gears does.

Gears, there not even a contest here. Gears started the whole wave of using cover mechanics in shooters. While it might not have been the first to do it, it was the game that drove half of shooters to adopt those mechanics. Uncharted haven't been a major inspiration on games since it's released. Uncharted did very little new or original, instead it focused on taking tried and true ideas and doing them better than anyone else. So, Gears inspired a major change in how shooter mechanics work in many (if not most) shooters. Uncharted inspired... well... the new tomb raider?

Every action adventure game is going to try and copy Uncharted. Look at Tomb Raider, the original TP action adventure copies UC back. Every game will try to copy it in story telling.

So, Uncharted influenced games to have cut-scenes? How does that even make sense? If anything that is the Final Fantasy series. Gears popularized cover shooting, therefore I feel it takes this one. Even Dead Space 3 has cover, and I don't think it did before.

It's close.

I'd say Gears for the cover system. Sure, there were cover systems implemented before it, but Gears made it accesible and fun. Now, most shooters that have come out in the past 3 years have some sort of cover system. I certainly think it's right up there with Halo's recaargable lifebar.

An argument could be made for Uncharted because of the story telling. So many games are trying to mimic the ""blockbuster" type story telling of Uncharted (most fall short).

Gears since it helped shape what Uncharted became. Wasn't the original Uncharted concept a more fantasy focused game?

Though I think more and more games are starting to look like Uncharted. Star Wars 1313 looked exactly like Uncharted. The new Splinter Cell reminded me of Uncharted, too (which is just sickening to say). It seems a lot more games are mixing the cover based third person shooter mechanics with linear, scripted platforming segments.

Agreed. The whole fascination with cover and shoot tps' this gen began with Gears. It didnt invent it, but it made it popular this gen which is why Uncharted, and so many others now use it.

I don't know why, but whenever TC doesn't agree with someone his replies comes off as he's angry. Maybe I'm being delusional. All I know is Uncharted would of been totally different game if Sony didn't step in since they wanted to compete/attract the so called "Gears of War" audience.
