Thats how I was with Vice City I couldn't really do that in San Andreas just because with Vice City I always listened to V-Rock but in San Andreas it still had some music like that but not as good as the music on V-Rock IMO and the music is why I couldn't do that in San Andreas.GTA San Andreas.
I can just cruise around for hours and not get bored at all.
the-very-best
Bioshock does a terrible job of immersion for anyone who actually cares about objective, story, realistic character development, or basically anything else. STALKER is a far more immersive game.

[QUOTE="curtdoggLP5"]I find Oblivion really immersive, because you can just go explore, do whatever you want, fight stuff, steal things etc etc.Juggernaut140
It's not really immersive once you realize how lifeless everything is. Revolutionary AI my ass.
Your ass... is revolutionary?!

Go play Morrowind, then come back here.
I haveplayed morrowing, I owned it. I sold it after i got Oblivion, because the landscape was ugly and monotnous. Plus stealing and the combat etc are far better in oblivion. Anyway this is opinion, not fact.

Portal and/or Half-Life 2 would of had me completely immersed if it wasn't for certain things. Namely the frequent loading screens and the occasional death.
It was like the games way of throwing popcorn at me. Constantly reminding me I was playing a game and snapping me out of it in the process. But I guess that applies to most games.
So I'm just gonna go with San Andreas for the same reason the-very-best mentioned.
Hmm...
Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Half-Life 2, Metriod Prime (first one on GC).
Oblivion takes the cake though. Mass Effect is a close 2nd b/c of the conversation thing.
[QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"]I've played all the games mentioned so far except the monkey game lol, and WoW wins easily, azeroth/outlands is a living breathing world with 15k+ players, why do you think people get so hooked? =pBig_Red_Button
Agreed. WoW consistently stays in my list of favorite games, because it does nearly everything so amazingly.
Massive variety, intense and challenging bosses (people who think DMC or NG bosses are hard should really try some of the 25-man raids in WoW. Hell, even some of the bosses in ZA are BRUTAL.)
Awesome PvP, a great community, tons and tons of content, with new content always being added, and a world so real you can feel it.
World of Warcraft is a feeling.
I originally siad Morrowind but yes id also have to mention WoW. I have a lvl 70 Dwarf Paladin and i used to play the game so much it sorta ruined a part of my real social life when i was playing. I have to stop after awhile and renew my account after months or i would have no life what so ever.
The idea of a Auction houses that span all of your realm
Endless exploration and you could almost never explore every reagon and all 2500+ quests.
PvP-Cross realm battlegrounds. Proffesions such as mining, herbalism, tailoring, jewcrafting, blacksmith, Interaction and easy interface for the complexity of all spell, class specific specs, instances, Guilds.
Sigh i have wasted a total of 350+ days of log in time played and i will never stop playing this game!
As much as i love my 360 and other consoles, WoW makes me forget about all others and even real ppl! its that addicting.

I think he meant immersive as in a well-crafted, detailed, believable audiovisual experience that makes it feel like you're in an actual location. Atmosphere. At least that's my definition of an immersive game world. Not that the mechanics of the game are addictive. But oh well, anyone's free to interpret I guess.
Anyhoo...people have already mendtioned Stalker and Bioshock, so I'll say The Darkness. Parts of it are crazy, mostly in a good way. I particularly liked the subway station hubs, and my man George. George is freaking awesome. And that old crazy mumbling German guy.
Shadow Of The Colossus (the immersion in the game's world is so hardcore that there isn't even any background music associated with the exploration aspect of it).

I've played a lot of great immersive games...many people mentioned are great. But WoW as you have put so well has an addictive immersion. The world itself becomes mapped out in your brain like no other. The economy is so immersive it bleeds over into real life with people buying and selling gold for real cash. The community of people you meet and the friends you make give it a social networking environment. While the game starts out rather simple... the talents, professions, numerous classes, races, dungeon instances, raids, in game societal events, auctions, guilds, etc, etc... are vast. Each character type has it's own "feel" and after working one up to level 40+ the ownership of that character is like none nother. Sure I like Oblivian and Morrowind, bioshock, Mass Effect, Myst, Gabrial Knight, Pandora's Directive, Guild Wars, and the list goes on and on... There are lots of great games. But WoW has changed what immersion really means. The fact people numbering in the millions pay $15 each and every month to play the same game is an undeniable testimony to it's greatness.
Dang it... now I got to go play some more!
The first time you land on TallonIV in Metroid Prime was mind blowing. That's immersion on a disc.Gamingcucumber
yeah metroid Prime was the first and only game that truly blew me away-
no loading times
incredible music
Brilliant graphics and effects
and many more things that made the atmosphere so amazing.
;)

my favourite moment of the game. I actually think I just wandered round that first area for about 10 minutes just listening to the music. Simply astoundingly brilliant that bit.
