Middle-earth from Lord of the Rings Online. There is nothing quite like reading about all of these places in a book and then finally getting to see them on screen. Very classy indeed.CheeChee_Macko
Seconded. Ever since I read The Hobbit for the first time, I've wanted to explore the world and now it's possible :)
The Metroid games, especially Super Metroid and Prime. Bioshock was very impressive, especially the opening sequence, that was judged to near perfection. LoZ: Majora's Mask drew me in with its unparalled atmosphere and melancholy and lately I have to say Endless Ocean does an excellent job of pulling you into the TV.
It's weird to me that alot of people mention Metroid Prime, I always thought the worlds in those games were so very boring and lifeless so I quit playing it. I remember gama on the PS2 being very emmersive such as the worlds of Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter.

well the inhabitants of metroid prime were wiped out :P
its not supposed to be a bustling metropolis.
for multiplayer i can only imagine WoW being the most immersive game
As for non multiplayer, Oblivion is by far the most immersive game.. i stopped playing that game but i remember atleast having about 40+ hours in and i havent even touched the main mission yet

I mean I would not have minded more enemies either.
lol subrosian got owned there hahahah..daveg1
?? What are you talking about - I gave Bioshock a 6.5 (months ago) and later took down my review simply because I felt it was incomplete, and needed to be rewritten. I would, in retrospect, give Bioshock on the PC a 7.0, and Bioshock on the Xbox 360 a 7.5.
Morrowind and Metroid Prime.GIJames248Those are my choices as well. Bioshock is right behind those 2.
[QUOTE="Juggernaut140"][QUOTE="curtdoggLP5"]I find Oblivion really immersive, because you can just go explore, do whatever you want, fight stuff, steal things etc etc.SSCyborg
It's not really immersive once you realize how lifeless everything is. Revolutionary AI my ass.
Your ass... is revolutionary?!
Wait what?!

Go play Morrowind, then come back here.
I haveplayed morrowing, I owned it. I sold it after i got Oblivion, because the landscape was ugly and monotnous. Plus stealing and the combat etc are far better in oblivion. Anyway this is opinion, not fact.
Yeah if you enjoy stealing 5 gold worth of things from peoples houses
BioShockman....the world was huge in the wind waker.
Wind Waker (that art$tyle was the main reason)

Same. I spent alot of time with it...and something about catching the insects, hearing the crickets chirping and frogs croaking, and seeing the fire flys glowing relaxed me.Laugh all you want, but Animal Crossing really drew me in.

Having been involved with Animal Crossing prior to it coming to the United States, and spent a great deal of time spreading the game, I have to say, it ranks up there with stuff like Phantasy Star Online in being able to suck out your life, and replace it with colorful shiny things.
Easily Oblivion, one of the most immersive games I've ever played.Gnr_Helsing
It's too bad the leveling system was so wonky - I mean basically you're trying to immersed and just run around, doing your thing, but if you don't want your character to be gimped, and get killed by enemies, you have to make sure you're doing the right things, and raising the right stats.
I say this because it is exactly what happened the first time I played Oblivion - I wound up with a level thirteen character who couldn't handle things as well as he should have been able to, simply because I only used running, jumping, sneaking, fire and illusion spells, and sword fighting.

No, I'm basing my statement on a fact, as always. Oblivion lacks many of the RPG elements that Morrowind had, Morrowind had a much larger world with more indepth characters, Morrowind lacked the travel system of Oblivion that made it much less of a free roaming rpg, morrowind had much more engaging dialogue, Morrowind didn't have the horrible leveling system that Oblivion had, etc. Morrowind didn't have anywhere near as many distractions as Oblivion had in creating a believeable, "immersive", world.

Much better characters and storylines too.

Even though the series is not particularly my cup of tea, Bethesda practically created a living, breathing world in Morrowind.

Good points, but I still think Oblivion is the better of the two.

Ah, but scores do not determine how immersive a game is.prior to it coming to the us?
Just asking...but did you play the N64 version: animal forest?
Shinobishyguy
I never imported Animal Forest, when the Gamecube came out I found out about Animal Forest finally coming to the US, of course on the GCN as Animal Crossing, and figured "well... now this is interesting". I immediately had it on preorder, and basically took my Gamecube around to school, work, friend's houses, anywhere I could, getting them to play it and see. I actually had a friend borrow my 'cube for a week to play the game - he had to have put in 50 ~ 60 hours in that week alone, and he later bought his own Gamecube to play.
I've been a fan for a long time, and as far as being addictive and such, AC pulls it off. Wild World lets you do even more in some ways (the time consumption of making a custom tile for *each and every* tile on your map - have you done this? If you understand perspective drawing you can do some insane things by using specialty tiles. I really miss having the island you could sail out to though - it was neat hooking up the GBA to the GCN version and unlocking the island.
