The Most Overrated Game Series of All Time? v.3

What do YOU think is the most overrated game series?

My nomination:


Halo.

I own all 3, and they're fun don't get me wrong.. especially the driving/flight/scarab sequences in the third. Regardless, when it comes to other FPS, I just don't see it deserving the high praise that it got.

If I had to throw another game out there, Grand Theft Auto. I fell inlove with GTAIII... but the others felt too repetitive.

Halo takes the cake here. The first deserves all the praise it got and more but the next two have really been a step backwards.

Alot of people might say MGS and FF here but really they're only popular within their own fanbase. Halo is just overrated by everybody who haven't even tried the far superior games out there.

A good portion of the FF series (not the whole thing), halo.. of course, and sonic.. I hate sonic games so much but that's my opinion.jangojay

I loved Sonic 1-3+Knuckles on the Genesis.. but after that... I'll agree, it hasn't been the same. I wouldn't say its overrated considering the ratings for the 3d sonic games have licked except for Sonic Adventure. lol.

Anyways, I think the MGS series. It gets soooo much bull**** fanfare and all this crap, and I just don't see all the appeal in it. The stealth gameplay is mediocre. The action parts are mediocre as well. In fact, the best game in the series, and also my favorite, is MGS3:SE, and that is the one that sold the least out of all the main storyline games. I just don't get it.

Its not bad by any strech but its just so bland and the characters seem so overdone

I somewhat disagree. Just the addition of the gravity gun into HL2 was pretty revolutionary for FPS's. Being forced to use everything around your environment to beat your enemies. I agree with the rest of your comment, though. EP1 and 2 were both pretty much crap. And way too short.

Im PC gamer for 8 years now and i never ever felt to buy Halo to play it even if im FPS freak. I never ever played one,when i saw it i said thats not for me. Same for Halo 2. I bet would be the same for 3.

As for the worst series in general for me ill say Spiderman.Its totally crap (imo). And the 3d mortal kombats series.( i was once a MK lover but 3d ones ruined the game franchise).Thats my opinion of course

Wasnt the gravity gun that made HL2 an instant classic. Were the crystal-graphics(we are talking about 2004 now),the awesome clear environment and of course the first time physics. You could do anything,broke,take all barrels around with your gravity,was the start for some serious physics in game overall. That was truly revolutionary back there. Besides that i cant think a single game back then (2004) that could win HL2 at any feild (graphics-sound-physics-gameplay-story)

Nop you doin wrong. What made Far cry famous is probably what is Crysis now. Graphics. Nothing more nothing less. As for physics nop. Wasnt the same at all. Not even close. Besides that HL2 engine could run in a "low" machine for that year easily and play good too. Something like COD4 now and still its graphics were awesome.

As for story,wasnt something plain like Far cry that you know what to expect. As for better AI i agree.

Well, since it's my opinion I'm going to say Metal Gear Solid. They're interesting games with weird stories but nothing to wet your pants about. The gameplay was unique when it first came out but that was years ago.

I think much can be said about a lot of series losing their distinction over time but in my opinion there is simply nothing left of the Metal Gear series to fascinate me.

I agree with you on the 3d MK games, i think they shoulda just made the graphics better and kept the fast paced combat but also keep all the content they put in the games.

Anyone who says Halo is not overrated and overhyped to the maximum of overhyping is fooling himself.

I mean, what other game has their main characters walking in the street playing with kids? lol, even Micky mouse didn't make it to that level of overrated, even the nuclear bomb is not confident of itself to be the mass destruction weapon on earth after looking at Halo marketing.

Final Fantasy and Metal Gear.

I can only guess most FF fans have never played a proper RPG and I played MGS2 and it was like pulling teeth, never again.
