Silver was better. Then Crystal, then Red, then Gold, then Blue, then those others that aren't as good.

Phoenix534

Pokemon Silver and Pokemon Gold are pratically the same game, except for some exclusive pokemon that can only be found in the specific version of choice. Unless you have another reason for liking one version better than the others, because to me the individual pokemon shouldn't have that much of an impact seeing that you can always trade for the one that can't be obtain.

Pokemon has to take the cake. It is what got me into RPG's. Even though I love Final Fantasy, and other square games, pokemon will always have my heart for opening that door for me.

Is there a reason why this ressembles so freaking much like a dragon ball character or is it just coincidence?

The guy who made Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, also made DQVIII. That's why many of the characters in the game have his 'style' in it.

Chrono trigger

Demons Souls

KOTOR

FF7

Vagrant Story

I guess it's a 5 way tie, too close to pick only one fav. But at the time of it's release, FF7 probably gave me the biggest "this is amazing" factor.

The best "role-playing" game that I've played throughout my entire video-gaming career that captured what it is like (as close as possible) to what it is like to play a PNP RPG, and created a believable, engrossing and incredibly immersive atmosphere was Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. I have yet to play any other game like it. You could play the game 10 times and not have the same experience twice.

Every other "RPG" by comparison just feels like an action-game with a scripted plot. Vampire created a "living world" that ebbed and flowed between events. You felt as if the characters were "real" figures, not just the figment of some programmers imagination. You connected with them on a level not possible in other games... because they just weren't as immersive.

I still remember, clear as day, the moment that a particular character was killed by the Sabbat near the end of the game. I had become very attached to said character over the progression of the game, and constantly wrestled with a moral dilemma about keeping them around, despite it being dangerous. I didn't see it coming, and it hit me like a Peterbilt 379 hauling a 60,000 lb load. I went insane... I literally felt sorrow and rage at the death of this character by the hands of the Sabbat... I didn't stop from then on, till the end of the game, completely annihilating any Sabbat enemy I could get my cold vampiric hands on. I just destroyed them like they meant nothing. I saw them as in-human beasts that didn't deserve to even be "breathing." They go completely against the ways of the Kindred and respecting the balance between Kindred and Kine. I did everything I could to make them suffer as much as they possibly could handle.

Even now, I still get a rush of emotion when thinking about that... and it happened almost two years ago.

Number 1 is always Morrowind.

Number 2 is harder. It's between Tales of Symphonia, Pokemon (can't decide which one), and Persona 4. The latter of which I haven't physically played, but I've watched a full playthrough and that's pretty much the same thing when you're talking about a turn-based JRPG.

Planescape Torment --- it's still pretty much unsurpassed in many areas like story , characters, dialogues, relations etcnaval

I totally agree. Fallout 2/Vampire Bloodlines would probably be next on my list, and I absolutely loved The Witcher.

Ah yes, I remember "that" character distinctly. And I remember feeling the same rage following that character's death.
What I remember most, however, is bulldozing through the remainder of the game following that occurence.
At the time, I wasn't sure if it was because I had grown weary of the game itself, or if it was because I satiated for some kind of resolution to help mend my anger. Today, I can safely confirm that it was definitely the latter.

More about the game...

Like you previously mentioned: the atmosphere. No other game really approximates what that game accomplished in terms of atmosphere. Living near LA, I felt they captured the essence (the intrigue, the loneliness) of each locale (Santa Monica, Hollywood, etc.) perfectly. Moreso than inhabiting a character you can distinctly call your own, Troika did an amazing job in crafting a vivid, breathing world that truly felt alive. Every little detail that populated the various environments had its own backstory, even if there was nothing there to explicitly tell you about it (you made the inference). It's this type of world immersion that most computer RPG's these days tend to lack, or not have at all. It's a shame, really.

FFX. Got me into RPGs and into gaming in general. It just blw me away when I played it. Remains me favorite game of all-time... OF ALL-TIME! Also the only RPG (besides Pokemon) that I have beaten multiple times.

Such a difficult choice. I loved Suikoden 2 and FF 7 but I'd have to go with FF VII since I put so many hours into it.

This generation... it's probably Demon's Souls. Of all time, though? *sigh* Final Fantasy XII. Now I'm gonna' run from this thread.
