Wii U fight stick unboxing.

Man I always thought it would be cool to get one of those.
Problem is I don't like fighting games all that much aside from Soul Calibur. :/
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Thanks for the replies guys, might end up being an impulse buy one day :Pblue_hazy_basicI'd definitely look into getting one sometime this spring. By then we (should) know more about what nintendo has instore for the system.
I've played 1 hour each of NSMB U and BOII so far after 5 days...
Nintendo Land has my attention atm. I think it's because it's an entirely new experience (gamepad functionality), and the gameplay is addicting, fun & diverse. The mini games also have surprising depth to them. 15 hours of pure joy and I'm still as hooked as the first time. Also still far away from the 100% mark. Beyond that I can see plenty of the mini games having replay value; this game will last me the entire gen out. GOTY
Btw someone in Miiverse said "I wish there was a Pokemon minigame"
That got me thinking, I would like to see Pokemon Land in the future as the sequel to NL.
I think I know what they are announcing, but it's going to be a very wild guess.NoA is also having a ND too at 9AM PST tomorrow.

There's a new firmware update for both 3DS and wii u. EnforcedspotThat's your prediction for Nitnendo Direct? :P

No Mr Bulbasaur2716.
It's happening now. Some people have reported a new update being available. I'm trying to get the woman at home to get mine updating.

I'm no Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur sucks :x Anyway, thanks for the update. I'll get my system up and running then. (No, the pun was not intentional. Yes, the intent to draw attention to it was).Okay, I just updated my 3DS. That must have been the smallest and fastest update for the system ever. I have no idea what it did. Maybe it was a behind the scenes tweak, and nothing more.charizard1605I didn't update my 3DS yet; But my Wii U was updating and I didn't even notice because it is downloading in the background.Edit* I just updated the 3DS and the Wii U is at 25% of a 593MB system update.
Unless.... GTA 5 hits the Wii U![QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="Meeeper282"]
Yeahh aha, might get one soon though, i really want gta 5 XD
Don't know which one would be better for it though
Meeeper282
It better, don't want to rebuy a ps3 or 360 just for that 1 game :P
if the wiiu gets gta5 it wont be for some time, and it is basically a coin flip whether or not the wiiu will get it or notHope so, just picked up NSMB on the way home today and still need to get ZombieU. After that I have no idea when the next game me or my son wants will come out. It will certainly get 20+ awesome games in the next 5 years time that you cannot get elsewhere. If you only game on a Wii U it could be a bit problematic, but as an addition to your PC it should definitely be worth its money. I can agree with that. So many of the strong titles on the MS or Sony are on the PC now there not much reason to own them. However with Nintendo it can be hard even to find title smiler to Nintendo 1st games.[QUOTE="HarlockJC"][QUOTE="KungfuKitten"] I don't remember nintendo ever announcing a crapload of games.KungfuKitten
625MB System Update downloading, will report back if things seem faster when it's done.bobbetybobTo me it seems a lot faster. It doesn't take a long time to get to the menu or go to apps like Miiverse.
Same here. I even posted on his first comment.[QUOTE="ShuichiChamp24"]I am following shuhei Yoshida on Miiverse.Nintendo_Ownes7
I was excited for the update, but alas, it's not what I hoped in terms of speedy OS. It could possibly be a bit faster, but certainly the OS slow speed going between functions, quitting games, etc isn't fixed so to speak. I do hope the freezes/system locks are gone for good though.
Nintendo reported only this on the matter,
Nintendo :
Version 2.1.0 U
Released: December 4, 2012
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Nintendo
It's strange how large the update is considering Nintendo's memory options (32GB + 8 GB) at launch. For those that care, the update is a whopping 593MB! Another half gig bites the dust. If Nintendo keeps up this pace and massive size of the updates, that memory is going to be gone within the first year or two. I feel badly for the 8GB buyers, they were already down to 3gigs before today without having played a single Wii game (save) or updated a game. If this update was planned with a reserve 4GB internal memory set aside inside the Wii U separate from the user memory, Nintendo still needs to be careful as that means they just used over .5GB of that 4GB today. The machine is very new still, and they have 6 years to support the Wii U and 3+ gigs left.
Nintendo Direct is tomorrow, perhaps this update was more for the incoming TVii app, it also could be that Nintendo are simply blocking exploits. The problem is memory is a premium with the system.
EDIT : It still takes 20+ seconds to just look at the system settings/options, and that much time to exit.
I found this video to show non-Wii U owners a typical peek into the Wii U OS and it's speed. I was considering making one myself if no one else had, thank god someone did. The update today did not rectify the situation of the slow Wii U OS unfortunately. Perhaps tomorrow.
[QUOTE="ShuichiChamp24"]The update doesn't take up extra space. Space available before update 25GB Space available after update 25GBcharizard1605How does that work? Did Nintendo already reserve hard drive space for the OS with the previous update that the new update is now occupying?
This is a good opportunity to talk about Wii U's memory set up.
Let's see. Behold this teardown of a white Wii U:
Click for larger size.
This was a white Wii U, 8gb.See the one with an orange border in the bottom left? it's identified as aSamsung KLM8G2FE3B eMMC 8 GB NAND Flash/Memory Controller. This must be the user storage.
Let's now turn the motherboard over to the other side:
Click for larger size.
See that thing surrounded by black in the top left? It was identified as aSamsung K9K8G08U1D 4 Gb (512 MB) NAND Flash. I checked the datasheet, it is a total capacity of 4gig.
So what is the second one, the 4GB one for? Most likely answer - system updates. System updates aren't interfering with free space remaining, I think this is the answer why.
System updates must be stored separately, and one benefit of this is that system updates do not impinge on free space accessible to the user.
I believe that makes sense, but then there are additional questions that arise: a) Why did the first system update actually take up hard drive space? I believe it did, although I may be wrong, and am open to being corrected. b) Over the course of the Wii U's lifespan, and especially judging by the size of the system updates so far, the cumulative size of the updates is bound to exceed 4 GB. What happens then? Do the older ones get overwritten? Do the newer ones begin to save themselves on the hard drive after all?charizard1605is there data management screen on the wiiu? if so does it label the used up space? Do you see game saves and installs taking up additional space?
Wait a second, another thought occurs.
The update doesn't take up extra space.

Before update - is this before even downloading the update?
After update - I assume this is once the update's installed.

Hmm. So after some thinking here are the best answers I can provide:
A) I don't know.
B1) Exceed 4GB? If they really need that much, perhaps mandate that free space must be available on the other drive to receive the update content. Bound to exceed? I don't know man.
B2) I would certainly try to overwrite files if it was safe to do so.
B3) I guess that's a possibility.
To further guess the answer to B1 and B3, I checked the state of my Wii U's 32GB memory. These are the only things it reports on (for me):
Item - Capacity (MB)
NSMBU - 44
Nin Land - 308
COD BLOPS 2 - 88
Uplay - 12
ZombiU - 32
Nano A Neo - 50
Puddle - 592
Youtube - 33
Sum - 1159MB. So ... why do I only have 24GB reported as available when I'm barely using over a Gig.
Assuming that the 32 Gigs is only 32 billion bytes (as opposed to34,359,738,368 bytes), once formatted it should be ~29.08Gigs.
29.08 - 1.131 = 27.949 gigs I should have, but it's offering me 24. A shortfall of 3.949gigs.
So after learning this, I actually think my guess needs rethinking. Considering the update didn't change the free space onShuichiChamp24's Wii U, that points to either overwritten files, or use of the second memory device. The second memory device could be used only sometimes. Maybe different parts of the system resides on each device for some reason.
Assumptions etc: Base 1000 for 32MB storage but 1024 used when formatting. Nintendo using 1024 in their software.
I never once cared about the specs of a gaming system. Never really understood either why it's such a big deal. Guess the games that I enjoy are all that mattered to me. HarlockJCPreach Brotha!

Closer to Radeon HD 7570M with 64bit DDR3 memory.
Radeon HD 7570M uses similar GPU design as E6760.
Trine 2 works fine on Wii U's CPU:GPU ratio. The wiiu finally wins a face off on digital foundry against the other consoles: LINK

Guess you never think about the technology that allows you to enjoy those games.
Unless every game you like could have been made for the Odyssey, you do care about specs. Just indirectly.
You set yourself up for disappointment. This ND was for the Japanese launch/window.I was hoping for a Bayonetta teaser at the end of the Japanese ND :(

Pikmin footage looked amazing. Saw lots of interesting mechanics, such as leaf creatures blending in the environment, bubbles blowing Pikmin or the captain away, and the cool glowing monster in the dark. Can't wait for this game!
Also, Nintendo are publishing Rayman Legends? I like how Nintendo are supporting third parties like this.
