The Official Wii U Thread: Nintendo Direct Incoming

So Nintendo's only first party title being released before e3 is Pikmin 3? Besides Wii U fit.....sigh Nintendo. At least theirs Monter Hunter Ultimate and Rayman Legends to look forward too and a crap load of 3ds content apparently for the first half of this year as well.

There are no 2nd party games, there are only 2nd party developers. This confuses a lot of users in SW for many a generation.

The games themselves are either 1st party or 3rd party. Same goes for Capcom, Konami, and other 3rd party companies that outsource their IPs to 3rd party developers. The end product is still a Capcom property say like Bionic Commando, or in Konami's case Metal Gear Rising/Castlevania LoS.

I can't be the only one wishing for any 3ds footage :( though I'm hardly hopeful for it as my one experience of a lego game on the 3ds was the demo for lego batman and that wasn't that great.

I see this mistake a lot as well. There are really only first and third party games. The addition of second party sure seems to confuse a ton of ppl. It makes them think that second party isn't a part of a company by partial or full ownership and is its separate entity that is just tagging a long for the ride. Second party dev games are still first party, and their games are just as much a part of the company as any other game made in house. Always annoys me when ppl don't count second party as first.

Honestly I think the term is stupid but its better used to clarify where a company stands.

In SW, I usually have to deal with 20 trolls/pissed off fanboys before I get a level headed response. In all fairness though, this thread hasn't been nearly as bad as out there. It's a Haven of sorts from most trolls, since it's just Wii U and Nintendo chatter. :P

No need to make a fit over it though by calling out every thing Ninty does and pronouncing your hate every time you can. The most annoying ppl are the ones that overexaggerate everything and don't take off their tinted shades every once in a while when it could be ideal. Even I can find love for the Xbox and I dont particularly like Microsoft (father is a computer specialist, learned the hate from him :P) or the games on the system.

Update's nearly done... Won't have much time to play tonight though...

Only have Nintendo Land and NSMB for now, but I plan on getting ZombiU this week end.

What other games do you guys (talking to those who actually have the system, here, not to the trolls obviously) recommend? I'm not interested in big-ass multiplats like AC3 or Batman AA (got a PC that murders consoles for these). I'm already looking forward to playing the likes of Trine2 and Rayman Legends, but I'll have to wait...

Edit : just realized Trine2 was already available.. I am now an even happier man....

Pointless Nintendo Direct. Little to no new information, and weak as a christmas hype machine. Could've done a low key one in January instead, abit closer to the actual releases talked in the episode.

The highlight was the google earth app, I was pleasently surprised as I use it pretty often. Street view will be glorious in 360 degree spherical view, and you can simultaneously keep track of where you are overview wise on the TV.

Brilliant.

Already pack 3 for NSMB 2? I gotta get with the times LOL. Abit expensive but the thing is these are the levels where they go crazy with level design, things you want to see more of in the main game, instant buys if they keep the quality up.

Fire Emblem is nice. Castlevania makes me sad. More great eShop games make me happy.

yea...that google map thing was the best thing even though i probably won't use it much...

1 less reason to get a Vita.

Clock is after 00:00 now so i got it yesterday,and ya my disc player is kinda noisy when i play games. Maybe should get external harddrive and buy games from nintendo shop instead. Its no biggie to restart the system, it is not broken or so i guess but this is my first Nintendo console ever that have a game freeze(black ops 2).

Happend to me once when watching a youtube clip in 720p and once in BOII's campaign.

I've used Wii U for 50 hours+

My Wii U has frozen a few times, and thus required the AC plug pulling.

But, the disc drive is very quiet indeed.

If I mute the TV and the GamePad, then yes I can hear the Wii U's optical disc drive (ODD). However, if my PC were turned on too, the sound of it's CPU cooling fan would be louder than the Wii U's ODD.

Just beat NSMBU.

I must say the final boss was really cool.

yea...that google map thing was the best thing even though i probably won't use it much...

So I emailed Nintendo about sound issues that the WiiU has, and here is their reply (my original email is on the bottom). 5.1 works fine for me, but the WiiU itself is incapable of surround sound in wii mode in 90% of games. I'm also a little dissapointed that NSMBU and Nintendo Land are only in stereo :?

So another lame Nintendo Direct. Pikmin footage was nice tho especially the cave gameplay. Not sure why a console would need google maps.

Yea they talked about it on Invisible Walls recently. Said it was the only recent Karting game that could hold a candle against Mario Kart.

I have my HDMI into my A/V reciever into my TV. Everything looks great and works perfectly. Audio works fine aside from the Wii Mode issue which is the consoles fault not mine. My setup is the most common of two possible ways to hook up your wiiU without audio issues(as far as I know :?)

Pikmin 3 is essentially a Wii title ported to Wii U. So, we all know a 1st party Wii U exclusive title exists, but we probably won't get that until Fall 2013. Announced at E3 of course. Knowing Nintendo, I would expect 2 total 1st party Wii U titles coming for Fall 2013. Perhaps only 1, as games do get delayed sadly.

Nintendo Direct didn't really impress me looking at the Wii U software, that's for sure. I am already set on TWO 2013 titles before this, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101. I'm waiting on Nintendo to line up their fall game for 2013. Whatever that game or games will be, I will own, I'm sure.

They haven't been making (High Profile) Wii games for 2 years and that was one game. 3 First party titles for the first year of Wii-U? I'll be happy to buy them provided they're games I want, but with Third party support up in the air seems like the gamecube all over again at this point.

From a purely gaming perspective, looking at the 1st party Nintendo games you got on the Gamecube, I will ask :

Well, the Wii U could be a 'Gamecube all over again', but would that be so bad?

Some say yes, others say no, the Gamecube was their favorite system, or they at least liked the GC more than the Wii.

I bought the Wii U with the same intent I bought my N64, Gamecube, and Wii. Exclusives. So, if the Wii U ends up being like the GC, that seems pretty good to me, as I got exclusives for my Wii U. I didn't buy a Wii U with any false notions of what I was getting out of it.

No, it's fine if it's another gamecube i'll still play and enjoy It. It's just unfortunate that somethings never change. I'd rather it'd be a repeat of the Wii to be honest I had alot more fun with that then the gamecube.

I just think it's dissapointing that after more or less neglecting the Wii for almost 2 years and all they can release by may is a game that was orignally going to be released for the Wii along side skyward sword last year? Just dissapointing is all Imo.

Nintendo has screwed up again with the WiiU. There is is still gonna be those games that are on PS and Xbox but not on the WiiU just like the Cube. NiN had a shot to really make a hardcore console but has utterly failed.
