Nintendo of Europe Blocking Wii U Eshop Content to certain times of day!?
This isn't going to help them convert PCPS360 gamers to their new Wii U platform that just launched.
"Nintendo of Europe blocks access to 18-rated content on the Wii U eShop at certain times of day, system messages suggest.
Users are unable to access trailers for 18-rated Wii U games or buy 18-related content.
The issue first came to light after a user experienced the issue and contacted Nintendo of Italy's customer support.
"Dear customer," a Nintendo representative replied, "we would like to let you know that Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries.
"We have thus decided to restrict the access to content which is unsuitable to minors (PEGI) to the 11pm - 3am time window."
Eurogamer has just tested this and it appears to be true. We were unable to access Assassin's Creed 3 information or buy ZombiU digitally.
"You cannot view this content," a message reads. "The times during which this content can be viewed have been restricted."
There messages appear for user accounts on which no parental controls have been set."
-----------
This is a bad decision, hopefully rectified soon. This certainly doesn't dispell the Nintendo Kiddy Image people complain about (and other claim doesn't exist).
This is just EU right? I'm not hearing about NoA doing this.Nintendo of Europe Blocking Wii U Eshop Content to certain times of day!?

Besides, nothing will dispell the "kiddy image" from them, no matter how hard they try.
EDIT: We must also keep in mind, NoE headquarters is in Germany, and they have strict laws on this, I believe.
I'm not saying this is a good thing, just some likely scenarios.

[QUOTE="heretrix"]I don't mind difficult if the design suits it. As down as I am about NG I don't regret buying it. I didn't expect much from it anyway..Since the Wii-U was an impulse buy, I kind of expected some of the stuff I bought to be disappointing. I am enjoying Paper Mario at the moment though. IMO it does suit it. But ya I agree that it's kind of weird they switched the buttons around. Ummm Did you play razors edge with the game pad or the pro controller. The pro. Whoops! Must have overlooked that, but still, this is likely to comply with German laws.I hope it severly flops in europe, only a 4 hour window to purchase games???
People that need sleep early, people working nightshifts...can't buy games?
Good luck with 3rd party support again.
Dude, if the backlash is big enough, some places in the EU might lift this (likely in places like the UK). And Nintendo usually DOES respond due to backlash (Operation Rainfall and getting exclusive, mature third party games, everyone?)I hope it severly flops in europe, only a 4 hour window to purchase games???

Curfews like you're a 6 year old.
Two of those things are actually manageable (one, you can get a third party ethernet adapter and two, they have external harddrives permitted for a reason), and again, there may be a chance NoE will lift the curfew for other EU nations (like the UK).In terms of being "out of touch", in some cases, maybe it's better that way.

Europeans got some heavy rules on gaming imo, yet they freely open up to nudity or more mature things on commercials and otherwise. Then again nudity isn't exactly "mature" to me or even that bad. People just think this way because of what other ppl think about or do when seeing such nudity. What's mature or not is a very grey line to most ppl in these things.
I do hope they rectify this though. It really doesn't help Ninty's image nor is it good in anyway to restrict any kind of content outside of established sources like movies or games that are released. Anything on the internet should mostly be free for all imo since it IS free for all. No one is stopping you from looking at anything on the internet, and age verifications are easily bypassed. Unitl your parents set up a parental control then it becomes an issue that is similar. The other forms of media usually has physical ppl that can determine your age and such so they are okay.
The day when the government starts to take over our internet and has you paying for IPs and service is the day that it won't be free. This day may never come too due to intercontinental issues.

Um. You're not even a big enough person to post on your real account.
It's spelled asymmetric by the way. You're welcome.
No ethernet port - Buy an adapter for about ten bucks. Or don't buy one, which is what I chose to do.
No swappable internal HHD - big deal. Use an external USB one, they're cheaper per gig anyway. I have a spare one here should I need it. For the time being, I have ~24 gig of space left anyway.
No ability use your Nintendo ID to multiple consoles - Yet. This functionality will come in time.
Curfews like you're a 6 year old. in some countries to comply with their laws - not here.DrTrafalgarLaw
For the price I paid for the system at launch, and the fun I've had with it, it's been excellent. Your opinion can be different, but these issues you bring up are really non-issues, or so minor they're negligible.
I don't think the system is perfect. Yeah it's just launched, but it needs more games. Nintendo should have planned for at least 2 eShop games per week for a few weeks after the system launch. I'd like a proper virtual console, and a less sluggish operating system.
Luckily, many of the issues I have with the console are very likely to be corrected over time via firmware/system updates.
Too bad its probably the one that I already played in stores, Can't wait for Feb 26Rayman Legends demo coming to NA/Eu next week.

wrong dude, James Rolfe only collects old NES games. Though for the current age he's more Xbox I believe.
Although he has pretty much all the systems I don't think he actually has time to play the systems because his true passion is Filming and Directing.

I couldn't remember the vid, but you reminded with the Far Cry Vengeance reference. I just checked it up and I think I'm correct here. He does rip on many games, incluing Far Cry, but at the start he is not. He clearly calls the wii a "baby's toy" and there's no joke there.

Again, you're kind of missing the angle of the joke here. The joke being that he is being forced to watch his future self review retro games (in this case on the Wii). "Baby's toy" implies that at that point the Wii had become another dated gaming relic. The rest is just him purposely making himself look silly and eventually getting a heart attack from it. And really, does this need explaining? If you've watched all his videos, it's pretty clear the guy is big on Nintendo.AHH SH*t MAN This is supposed to be a work safe board, no gore pics.
