The only platformer better than Mario 64 is Mario Galaxy

But yeah, Mario 64 is better than all platformers excluding Galaxy since its release i.e. it was better than all others on N64, better than all others on PS, PS2, XBox and XBox 360. Last gen didn't beat it and this gen hasn't touched it either (apart from Galaxy!). Nintendo are the undisputed Gods at platformers.

Even in the N64 era I really thought Banjo (especially the original) was a better platformer than Mario 64. Mario 64 was groundbreaking, but B-K perfected the formula.

And then Banjo Tooie went ahead and added a bunch of back tracking which was stupid.

I'd say in terms of the games mentioned it'd go something like

Mario Galaxy > Banjo Kazooie > Mario 64 > Banjo Tooie

Even though Mario 64 wowed me more, I though Banjo Kazooie was better. I'll even say I like Banjo Kazooie better than Mario Galaxy, but I still think Mario Galaxy was great. Don't get your panties all in a bunch Mario Galaxy lovers.

Banjo-Tooie and Banjo-Kazooie would like to have a word with you.

If you include 2-D platformers in the mix I think Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Mario World are also better than Mario 64.

I have two SNES copies and a Virtual Console release.

However, the reason I own two is because my original broke.
