Would you agree with the following statement:

"The overall level of casualization this gen has reached level so high that - in retrospect - games like Rainbow Six Vegas look like ArmA (Armed Assault, highly realistic combat sim) in comparison to your average blockbuster FPS"

???

And ironically R6: Vegas received some negative feedback upon its release for streamlining its gameplay comparing to the previous Rainbow Six titles. Now, 6 years after the first Rainbow Six Vegas (or 4 years after Rainbow Six Vegas 2), it seems like you cannot go any deeper as far as console FPS are concerned when it comes to the tactical FPS gameplay. Right?

This seems like the kind of thread SNIPER4321 would post in.

Unfortunately to publishers and developers, streamlining means to completely strip out any gameplay that involves thought and replace them with simple button presses. What's equally annoying is the thought that if a game doesn't have a ridiculous amount of menus and stats it's dumbed down. I think there is a happy medium there somewhere, it's just that no one has been thoughtful enough about their design process to find it. There also hasn't been a thoughtful dialog from gamers about what they want either.

If you haven't noticed by now...nearly every genre has become casualized.

I dislike that the most mainly because of the huge level of ignorance of the people arguing.

Still better than hotkey-spamming MMORPG.

I would love a new Rainbow Six. That was BY FAR the best XBOX Live game for a long time. The issue is that alot of the younger gamers can't appreciate the tactics in a game like R6. All they care about are perks and care packages! R6 took teamwork and even in TDM, there wasnt any running and gunning because it was designed as a slower paced, tactical game.

Streamlining games isn't necessarily a bad thing. Vegas 1 and 2 are probably the best games in the franchise. As long as the game is fun I dont care how casualized it is.

Hey bro, I loved Vegas 2, I'm not saying it's bad by any means, but to me there's a difference between streamlining (BioShock did it almost perfectly) and oversimplifying...

Games are expensive to make, games need to sell well, therefore games need to be accessable to all. This is unfortunate for hardcore gamers but personally I play games for entertainment value not challenge so I'm ok with it.

As long as the end product is Vegas 2, BioShock or Dishonored, then I agree. BTW is your user name a Kyuss reference?

I know this is a generalization, but I still play TFC competitively and I pub QL clan arena for fun.. by the way - I'm sure you're extremely pumped for 2GD's "reborn". Probably going to be the best MP FPS released this gen.

old games. new shmup releases are still insane difficult - dodonpachi saidaioujou to be released next year will be undoubtably the most difficult game released in 2013. edit: point and click adventures are still pretty difficult and cater to the hardcore.. but the walking dead is the start of the casualization of the genre.

It's an arcade shooter.

God, why don't people realize this?

No games today use quake 2's single player structure, it's like idsoftware forgot how to make games with that stucture.

Fps became the popular genre--and COD became the new casual game series. Wii games have more depth than cod.

8:13 he's exiting area you can hit the button again and go back to same area u were just in.today's games are linear as hell compared to that because they're too scripted that's why i said half life ruined gaming.

True. It is a sad era to be gaming.

Well, not if you're a casual gamer I suppose.

scripted events can effect gameplay in some ways like earthquake and changing the shape of the ground splitting it and making mounds which effects gameplay

but most scripted stuff doesnt effect gameplay

"Cinematic experiences" has been a large push this generation--hand holding to silly degrees-- and it has clearly been to the detriment of it.
