you wont, not with data files.

the only difference is/will be the amount of data.

It's a media format not a GPU. If you are playing pac-man on both you will see no difference. BUT, If you want to put ,for example ,the WoW world on one disc..........

It might be hard to believe that developers would use that much space, but some do. I personally think allot of them will continue to use about the same (EA).

"I thought this game would sell a lot of games, but i think the "fans" of this game that will be able to sit for these cut scenes are in the minority"

This statement gives the perception that fans are somehow segregated. (ones that "will be able sit for these cut scenes" and ones that wont".

If you intended to say that the minority of the people who buy this game will be "fans"..... 7mil+ previous, possible fans is quite a minority.

I am a fan of MGS, but I am not blinded by that fact. IMO there are no perfect games. I have a uncanny ability for seeing games for what they are, and more importantly, what they are intended to be.

I also have the uncanny ability to see a hater. haters don't get to speak for fans even in SW ;)

I am Far from a hater, son. You are assuming a lot more then i am in your post. Plus that is 7 million + games sold. If you divide that up between the games produced, (and I know that you can't divide them up evenly, but for arguments sake) That's around 2 million or less per game. A lot of those were casual gamers also, who all are not fans, but bought the game because of the hype, or just happen to like the game enough to play it (like myself), but will not sit through the 9 hours of cutscenes. I do not hate the game. i really liked the first one. The second one was okay. But like I said, this one has taken cut scene length to the obscene. Now to get back to the TCs question. I don't think even this game needed bluray, because if you compress the audio (which I don't think many people will even notice), and take these massive cut scenes out, and tell the story through gameplay, you can easily put this on two DVD-9s if not MAYBE one dvd-9. This is where the post originated. And this uncanny ability you have is probably not that great, if you can't see the comment i was trying to make, and i was not trying to sway anyone's opinion about the game at all. Maybe this fanboy attitude you have towards the game has blinded you to the fact that not everyone is going to want to sit through the endless hours of cutscenes, where you do nothing, but watch. In my opinion, this is not gaming, but watching a movie. besides I don't consider the ones that won't sit through hours of cut scenes to be die hard fans like yourself.

If you're worried that your downloaded data will be wiped out completely should your hard drive crash/fail Future digital distribution models (and you) should look at Steam; it's a 100% digital distribution, games platform on the PC Should the above incident occur, you may re-download the games you own (registered with your account) as many times as it happens. In fact I've had to do that at least three times since 2004 in order to regain the copies I own I'm sure future models that sell Movies, Music, Games etc. will become more like Steam in terms of back-up service

[QUOTE="loftus42"][QUOTE="Jrfanfreak88"]

[QUOTE="kevbo77"]I hate cutscenes. They rarely add anything to the game, and seriously, who would watch an entire 90 minute cutscene? 10 hours of cutscenes. That's reason enough for me to never buy this game. You better be able to skip cutscenes or this game will just annoy.Jrfanfreak88

I guess you don't play Metal Gear games then because all of the story telling has been done through cutscenes.

Why is that the first question out of fan-boys mouths when someone complains about the length of the cut scenes? I have played most of the MGS games, doesn't mean I like the length of the cut scenes. When 1/3 of the game is cut scenes, it's just too much. This game has just brought the length of the cut scenes to absurd lengths. Justifying this with the " every MGS game has told the story through cut scenes" is just as absurd. I thought this game would sell a lot of games, but i think the "fans" of this game that will be able to sit for these cut scenes are in the minority, But, before you go off, this is only my opinion. I also have seen this same opinion from a number of people, and if it sells we will just have to wait and see, if it is accepted by the general public.

Dude, I said what I said because the person I was replying was saying "that's reason enough to not buy the game" and "you better be able to skip cutscenes or this game will just annoy. So, if he hates cutescenes enough to not buy the game then he probably doesn't play other Metal Gear games because you have to sit through some fairly long cutscenes to have any remote idea about what's going on. Futhermore, all metal gear games have had cutscenes that you can skip and to think Kojima wouldn't let you skip the ones in MGS4 probably means this guy doesn't play Metal Gear games at all. It doesn't matter to me what the general public thinks about the cutscene lenght because I have many questions I was answered from the past three Metal Gear games I have played through multiple times. You're darn right I am a fanboy but at least I know something about the game(s), unlike the person I was responding to. And just for the record, the cutscenes in the Metal Gear games happen to be some of the best action sequences in gaming period. What do you think most of those trailers are made up of? CUTSCENES, and they are AWESOME.

Just because people don't want to sit through 9 hours of cut scenes, does not mean they hate cut scenes. Come on, there has to be a limit somewhere, And 9 hours to me, where 1/3 of the game is a movie, even if it is answering some of the questions people have is going a little overboard. There are other ways to tell the story, besides 45 or 60min cut scenes. It also doesn't mean he has never played the game. Maybe though wondering if you could skip the cut scenes, WOULD be a good indication of that. Sorry, i did miss that statement on his behalf. But all the MGS fans have got to realize, just because someone wants to play a game, and not sit through hours of cut scenes, does not make that person a hater of the game. just maybe a lover of gaming in general. We all need to take some Valium and calm down, including myself, this is just peoples opinions, and they don't need to be attacked for stating them.

Plus this is completely off the TCs post, so gripe at me if you want for having my own opinion. This will be the last time i address this outside of the TCs line of questioning. If you want to continue this, lets do it off the thread and message me, i will be more then glad to defend my position with you, and listen to yours.

Happy to have my HDD full of multi-gig installs

Happy to have slow reading speed

Happy to have my Ps3 games use 100% of the BR space

Happy to have more bluray movies than games

Yes I'm quite happy :)

Bluray may not be needed now for nintendo wii games or pc games or 360 games but it is very useful and will be needed for future uses. I think ps3 owners are happy with what bluray has offered them more then normal dvd owners would care about what dvds have given them. Here are a few reasons why we love bluray.

1.Bluray visually is better then dvd's

2.Bluray has alot more capacity space then dvd's

3.Bluray has better audio sound then dvd's

4.Bluray has an outer coating on the outside of each bluray disc to prevent scratches which always happen to dvd's or cd's which is a big plus.

Everything in bluray is better then dvd so I dont see why it wouldnt be useful for devs and us consumers. It may not be needed now from those who dont own a ps3 or a bluray player but believe me it is very useful for those who own one. U see that is the problem with this arguement and I agree with both sides that yes bluray isnt needed now but is it useful? Hells yeah it is useful and what u see now arent even devs taking full advantage of bluray. The first game that will really take advantage of bluray will be MGS4. From here on out though, I expect exclusive ps3 titles to really take advantage of bluray,

Sorry but you have no understanding of technology, computer graphics or media. Comments one and two only apply to movies not games. The capabilities of your consoles graphics and processing power determines how the graphics look not the disc they are streamed from.

Pretty much all the current PS3 games could be ported to 360 with the same graphics. All of them could be also ported to the PC. The PC doesn't stream games from disc, they are installed and then run from the hard drive. MGS4 could run at 1080p on the PC too!

Blu ray as a gaming format? No thanks, perhaps with a faster drive and a cost reduction to blu ray discs and hardware then maybe. Blu ray has defeated HD-DVD, has yet to defeat DVD9. And by the look of things its not doing a good job vs DVD9 because people aren't willing to accept BR over what they have now. Back to gaming, harddrives are probably the future for game consoles. If they weren't becoming mainstream in consoles then yeah BR would be the next format.

Blu Ray doesn't really have any power, just a lot of space compared to a DVD9 it hasnt been quite perfected for games yet but hey, at least it's here.

Dude I already know that. I am simply pointing out that bluray is useful compared to dvd's, which alot of u act like bluray isnt useful at all. All im saying is that bluray can be useful in the future of gaming if developers start to choose to use it. I already know PC's tech wise is beyond consoles but on consoles the ps3 does have advantages over the 360 and wii its just up to the devs to take advantage of bluray. MGS4 has proven this already with like 9 to 10 hours of cut scenes. I never said that bluray was needed now but it is useful and will be needed for future gaming. Anyone who says no forgets the jump from cartidges to cd to dvd and now bluray.

It is needed if someone wants to make a game with that much cinema, etc. Not needed for a game in general, most games this generation, won't need that much space. :/
