The PS3 tops the 360 for a second week.

I'm more interested to see the 360 sales this holiday with its diverse lineup and possible price drop. This holiday should be interesting if MS drops to $199, $299 and $399 and how it could possibly perform against the Wii with a more mainstream price point.7thSIN

I think they're likely to shave $50 off the price of each sku... but their gaming division is bleeding money right now, I don't think they can risk doing much more than $50 right now w/o major losses. But then again, they have trimmed costs on their units more than ppl think with nearly 2 yrs on the market.

Thats a foolish statement. If it starts beating Wii Nintendo would commit suicide. It's 2x more expensive and has 2x less appeal. PS3 has no chance of outselling Wii until late 2008.

Once all the $499 PS3s are gone (forever) then the sales will go back down. People still don't want to pay $599 for a system you'll all see.

okay, since you assume that lemmings are going to go out en masse and purchase a second 360 to replace their first, am I to assume Cows ran out and purchased new PS2's every time a redesign was announced? To a lot of gamers, and media, the contrary holds true. And I believe that the general concensus of the gaming universe believes that the 360 has the better winter line-up, as was evident when a poll was presented here regarding which of the two had the better line-up. The 360 won a landslide victory; and I believe 200 or 300 or so votes were cast.

We know that MS has only shipped 11.5 million (roughly) and that it took them months to get from 10 million to this point. We know this because we know they recently released their numbers showing a massive decrease in sales over this point last year...something like 700,000 world wide in a quarter, or roughly 230,000 world wide sales a month.

So while people want to chalk this up simply to a PS3 price drop, they are ignoring the most relevant facts. Customers are holding out and are reluctant to jump on the 360 bandwagon just yet. Customers are more willing to pay more money for a PS3 than the cheaper 360 with a better library. I think these things add up to show that many people still have faith in the PS brand.

The "message" was that there was a price drop. When something is marketed as being 'high-end' and 'luxury', obviouslyignorant people are gonna take note when it drops in price. They don't know that they are buying a console with inferior online, game library, and controller.

Maybe that they are idiots?Cows like toclaim that this is ownage because the PS3 doesn't have the better library between the two and yet people are buying the PS3. I wouldn't brag about that. Paying more money for a worse library = idiotic.

Go ahead and say that they are buying it for future potential. My question is, why not just wait until the potential is realized, then buy it? With a temporary price drop it is clear why people would do this, but cows have been saying this for months.
