It's not an invalid argument. I originally felt the same about the original Xbox, because it was so big.
However I was glad I got one, only because I didn't like the Gamecube at all.
It was so bad it turned me from being a sheep. I was a total sheep with the SNES and N64. The best thing about the GameCube is how valuable the games are second hand.
The PS5 is different though. Not only are most games on the PS4, they're also showing up on the PC and both you and I are disappointed with Spider-Man in ways. And Spider-Man would have been the Sony game that appealed to me the most. The movie games, I'm fine playing on PSNow on the PC.
I'm not convinced you're missing out on much so far. The PS5 is kind of pure hype so far. It's just being used as a more powerful PS4. This is the first gen I can remember that barely has any games of its own nearly two years in. It's embarrassing. People are complaining about the Series S like we aren't still playing 8th gen games.
I would actually say, you're fine if you just wait until the PS5 has a slim model and a big library of its own games. For myself, I'd go further and say, I wouldn't get a PS5 or a Series X until the price comes down significantly. You're paying for 9th gen consoles, that barely have 9th gen games between them.
Not excluding last gen gamers is admirable, but it's insulting to current gen gamers who are paying for a current gen system. And the gaming media is going along with this like it isn't a shit show.
So far Series S owners are the only ones who made the right choice. Okay it's last gen, well that matches, we're all still playing last gen games. At this point I know I'd feel pretty frustrated if I had a Series X/PS5 with the lack of current gen games. Waste of money.
