Can polyphony get off its high horse and drop that silly slogan? It's arrogant and pompous. Or is it sony's marketing team that decided this silly stance?

It says "We're confident you'll enjoy this product", if a product doesn't sound confident, the consumer won't feel confident in purchasing it. There's always "arrogant" slogans, but it's only to catch consumers.
Example:
"We have the best beer in the world!" over "We ALMOST have the best beer in the world!"
The first one obviously sounds better even if it isn't true.
So why can't microsoft put "better than gt" on their forza boxart? It says "We're confident you'll enjoy this product", if a product doesn't sound confident, the consumer won't feel confident in purchasing it. There's always "arrogant" slogans, but it's only to catch consumers.

Besides that slogan would be terrible, it certainly wouldn't have me sold if that's all it said.

That's my point: Microsoft saying "better than gt" sends the same message as sony saying "we're the best"because better then GT would be a lie. It would have to say: "Less Cars then GT" "Lower resolution then GT" or "won't sell like GT"
how is that arrogant but not "the definitive racing game on any system"?
SilverChimera
Agreed, he kept saying that over and over again at the conference

That's my point: Microsoft saying "better than gt" sends the same message as sony saying "we're the best"Directly calling out another person/group and/or their properties is seen as disrespectful. There are also copyright laws that have to be obeyed. Simply mentioning property a developer doesn't own in a game they created is grounds for a lawsuit if permission wasn't given, regardless if it's in-game or just on the boxart.

Ah thank you for pointing that out. I knew there was some kind of law preventing such a thing.cause we all see nascars on normal streets. Clearly trying to be the driving sim roll.Driving, Racing = 2 different things.
I really don't think anyone who has played GT5P with a good force feedback wheel can deny the slogan used. This is not a competition due to the first line in my post IMO.

Relax. They are trying to sell their game, you are making a big deal out of nothing. They have to establish themselves as the better racer since they know there's competition, there is nothing wrong with that. There are no morals in business, especially ones that are as petty as the one you bring up.Can polyphony get off its high horse and drop that silly slogan? It's arrogant and pompous. Or is it sony's marketing team that decided this silly stance?
MaxPower15
Look I think it is pretty straight forward stuff. They are trying to sell a product and the slogan can sometimes sway people into buying things when they don't know about the others. Not only that if you don't have confidence in what you are selling then how the hell can you have your customer be confident in buying your product?

That's my point: Microsoft saying "better than gt" sends the same message as sony saying "we're the best"You do know that GT wasn't referencing MS, Forza, or any of it's closest competition today when they came up with the slogan, right? When th first GT emerged back in '97 it was a far different driving experience than any of the other racing games out there. That's what the slogan denotes, and Fanboys losing sleep over it is... frankly, hilarious.
I guess it depends on which series has recieved more attention from the real-world automotive industry to some extent.
Might be, but Calsberg's "Propably the best beer in the world" sounds far better than simple "best beer in the world" :)Example:
"We have the best beer in the world!" over "We ALMOST have the best beer in the world!"
The first one obviously sounds better even if it isn't true.

People bash Dan Greenawalt for saying "The definitive racing game" when he is obviously confident in his game.aero250The devs of Need for Speed Shift have said their physics engine is heads and shoulders above anything avaible of upcoming :D
The slogan is obviously false, but company claims are almost always false. Hype like that sells. REAL racing simulators don't.

95% of the game is focused around racing?.. How do you unlock/purchase the cars if you don't race?
In addition how can a game be called "the real driving simulator" when the most iconic brands in the automotive industry are not represented in the game? Hell... you could not even get into a Ferrari for the first 9 years of the brand existence.....not to mention others such as Porsche and Lamborghini that are still absent....Pretty pathetic of you ask me...
I also don't agree with T10 stating with "the definitive racing game this gen" ..Maybe on consoles.... but far from it on PC..

Calling GT a "Driving Sim" is like calling Halo a realistic "War Sim." It's not correct or even close.
A real driving sim is GTR2.

Yes, it is a racing game but the slogan "Driving Sim" is spot on IMO. I don't care which game people prefer just based my post about the slogan and why I think it fits. Also I'm referring to Prologue because I have not played GT5 yet and really don't have a problem with the car selection in Prologue for what it is. As for previous versions I've not played'em as my PS3 is my first Sony console.

Well it is true that driving and crashing should rarely be part of the racing experience. That is (was?) a GT shortcoming, but one that was blown out of proportion.[QUOTE="360hammer"][QUOTE="Communistsheep"] Real driving simulators don't have bumber car physics and crashes.Shhadow_Viper

If you crash into a wall in real life, you don't magically bump off and continue to race.....Please Log In to post.
