The real reason for MS new friendly attitude.

Honestly after playing God of War for most of the long weekend here in canuckland, it dawned on me that Xbox does not offer anything remotely comparable in quality to this game.

I turn on my PS4 from rest mode and jump right back into where I left off. All updates have downloaded and updated in the background, no bullshit with the UI, just gaming fun.

Xbox does none of this correctly.

Yeah, when these companies start getting battered, they get generous because of competition. It's usually a good for the gamer. But for me it's too little too late with MS. The PS3 launched, got a hard time and then Sony turned things around, but the difference is, when Sony was having their hard time, they didn't treat their gamers like shit, so as the console got good, everyone just moved forwards with the PS3. With the Xbox One, MS shit their pants to catch Sony sales (to no avail), dropped everything (price, Kinect and exclusives) leaving collateral damage of gamers who bought their console expecting one thing and getting another. For me I ended up with a £429 netflix player, I had a PC, when Xbox went multiplat, it had no use for me.

So honestly, for me it's too little too late with MS and their generosity.

Well when EA are thinking of publishing expensive games, they would definately have accurate data wouldn't they? They don't even need to work it out and use VG charts or something or wait for a press release like system warriors would :-P, someone like EA would simply ask MS directly for very specific data. When it comes to business decisions, I just don't see them having loose interpretations of data and vague estimates.

I'm not saying that my theory is fact, it's just a question swirling around in my head when deciding 'who is more reliable'. If you're Nintendo, Sony or MS and EA calls, you pick up and be straight. That's what I'm thinking.

What you could say is, 'did the guy at EA who made the claim know what he was talking about?'. That might be a discussion.

Well there’s also been changes in management at Xbox as well so that has to factor into some of the philosophical changes too. Regardless though because the why isn’t all that important. The fact remains that they are doing more consumer friendly things right now while Sony is actively resisting at least one that both developers and consumers are wanting right now.

While I'm glad that your ps4 finally allows you to do that, Xbox 1 had it way before... in fact "Instant on" was already on x360.

One can also argue that this may in fact be permanent. People keep forgetting that Terry Myerson is GONE. The suits are FINALLY at bay when it comes to Xbox. Phil now only answers directly to the CEO of MS. So we really don't know what the future holds for Xbox, MS and the culture of this company. Xbox division can go back to being greedy/anti-consumer or they can slowly morph into a soft power.

Last gen Sony had a friendly attitude when they were losing, though they managed to lose by 2-3 million units end the end.

You realize the Switch is Gen 9 not 8. The competition in terms of gens isn't the Switch but the WiiU. I know it doesn't fit the cow agenda but those are the facts.

No doubt them pushing these good features is because they're behind this gen, overall as someone who supports the platform I find these good features. Just goes to show that these gaming companies only really try to implement good ideas when they are pressed to. I find largely the reason Sony hasn't supported digital BC, rights retention of digital BC PS1/PS2 classics bought on PS3, and puahing the streaming service for BC, is mostly because there's no pressure to because of their success thus far, same reason they didn't want to do crossplay. I think their tune might change next gen, when things will be more competitive at launch.

As far as cross-play goes, while MS stands to benefit from increasing player pools no doubt, so do publishers, and I feel publishers want this more than anything to support community vibrancy on all systems and make it so no port gets sidelined in player support thus increasing potential monetization. Overall, it's better for everyone they do this, so I dont know why it's a huge fuss, though I understand Sony's reasons, I don't know why their supporters should see things the same way.

Why are Ms trying to bring more people back to Xbox Gaming? That's a no brainer, they want more money. It's really not any more complicated than that.

It is a glorified Wii U with almost the same capabilities, most of its library are composed of Wii U ports, everyone pretty much agrees it's a gen 8 console.
