china thats why 1 billion people who all prefer PC Gaming as of now, most of them play free mmos or pirate alot but if time passes the chinese market will bring more and more money. Dame they have even a world of warcraft theme park. I also dont think they would play on consoles if they have enough money since all consoles are from japan or america. The chinese government and most of the chinese wouldnt like it so they would push their kids for PC Gaming or make their own console, but then again all consoles are made in china lol, so who knows.

PC gaming is already dead ( lack of exlusives , steep system requirements , piracy ) , forget dominating sales in next decade ... imo . Console gaming is the future :)

Doesn't make any difference.

Console games aren't going anywhere; I will keep buying games for my consoles whether PC gaming 'dominates' or not.

Exactly, most of the games are MMOs. These are the worst games because they are like drugs. I used to play them but realized it's a waste of time.

Ah, an unbiased prediction from Nvidia. :)

I noticed that in the years 2008-2011, both console and PC software revenue grew side-by-side. Then, starting in 2012, console software revenue stops growing entirely. Why? Console gamers get bored and realize PC gaming is superior?

You do know that the Chinese get a whole seperate version of the game with tons of edits right? It's a night mare to make a western game work in China.

Are you for real? He means in the next ten years, not the decade beginning in 2020. A decade is any span of ten years, it doesn't have to start in a year with a zero at the end.

The difference between pc gaming and console gaming is this.. Console gaming has a peak period.. While pc games tend to sell well over a long period of time.. In the end of the day pc gaming will always exist due to be the antithesis of the closed systems that consoles provide.. Both will thrive.

Console still generate a lot of money, there are many people enjoy console gaming...

btw, do you know that most of the games in China are those free-to-play MMOs or pirated pc games. These situations won't change unless the Chinese government have stricter policy of intellectual property protection.

This topic is about sales only. And console games outsell PC games 4:1. Fact.

But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter as long as people keep buying games. PC gaming will never completely "die" unless devs stop making games.

You have to know that many PC games are sold through DD, and DD is not counted in those NPD statistics. DD in PC is pretty huge

You do realise Nvidia didn't make that report. There are also a couple of other reports that closely resembles that one. Let's not also forget that pie chart showing software sales :)

let's accept your 'fact' that console games outsell PC games 4:1(25% pc games sales) then with the rest 75% is divided among the 3 consoles. so we get, 25% PC, 25% console_1, 25% console_2, 25% console_3.

There is room for both. Right at this moment PC Gaming dominates anyhow. If you include MMO/social gaming, game revenue is larger than all the other consoles combined. If you disclude MMO and social gaming, the PC games sales market is still larger than any single console.

What do you want me to do, make a pie chart? :|

The latest PC games, including multiplats, require hardware that most home computers don't have. That's why consoles dominate in sales.

If little Johnny down the street wanted to play Crysis 2, do you think he's going to spend over $800 to build a decent rig to play it, or buy it for his 360/PS3?

It's common sense really. That, and the lack of marketing.

Yeah, some exclusives sell well like Starcraft and The Witcher, etc. But when it comes to multi-plats and high profile exclusives, console games generally sell better.

Very True .

Plus its wise to invest in a console as PC exclusives like Crysis , The Witcher 2 gets released on consoles eventually . Then consoles got vast library of exclusive and superb games ( Gears of War 3 , Dark souls , Uncharted 3 ETC amongst recent releases for example ) :)

I'll quote you some statistics from a gamespot article a few months ago regarding gaming sales in 2011.

Money spent on games 2011.

PC/Mac - boxed/download - $4.3 billion

MMO - $2.6 billion

Casual/Social gaming - $4.3 billion

Mobile gaming - $2.1 billion

Console gaming - $8 billion (all consoles combined)

If we pretend that MMO/social/casual gaming on PC doesn't exist for a moment. That means;

PC Gaming - $4.3 billion (let's pretend the Mac doesn't exist as it sells all of 5 games each year)

Console Gaming - $8 billion (let's pretend the Wii doesn't exist for the same reason as the mac)

So Console Gaming = Xbox + PS3 (possibly includes handhelds, I don't know, but I'll pretend it doesn't)= $8 billion

Xbox - $4 Billion

PS3 - $4 billion

PC - $4.3 billion (this is excluding, MMO, social/casual gaming)

Now if I include Social/casual gaming and MMO's to the PC total. We get this;

PC Gaming - $11.2 Billion

Console Gaming (all combined) - $ 8 Billion

PC Gaming is currently the largest gaming market by a wide margin. Even without MMOs or social gaming the PC Gaming market is larger than any single console.

I just thought this information seems relevant...

Apparently death takes a while to kick in, because I'm buying almost all of my games on the PC. The PC is (still) the best way to experience games.

Why should i be ashamed ? I'm more experienced and wise when it comes down to gaming .

PC used to dominate till 2004 ( Half Life 2 , Farcry , Doom 3 releases ) . Frequent and excessive steep requirements to play a console port EVEN ( upgrade your PC every 6 months in order to play a game in highest resolution ) , rampant PC game piracy on Internet and lack of action games are main factors for PC gamings decline .

I used to be a Major PC fan even few years back , not anymore for following reasons i've stated .

For your knowledge i own a gaming PC and consoles alike . And i see best games releasing for consoles only , sorry .

I'm not arrogant , i enjoy best games out there in the market ( Say Witcher 2 when it releases on PC or Dark Souls when it releases for consoles ) . i know better :)

And yet it still has more higher scoring exclusives than all 3 consoles combined and superior multiplats. It's funny when an old $50 graphics card gives you better visuals than either console ;)

PC gaming is already dead ( lack of exlusives , steep system requirements , piracy ) , forget dominating sales in next decade ... imo . Console gaming is the future :)

A Level60 user posting this crap? You should be ashamed...

I think the reason people perceive ignorance in your post is because the facts and statistics don't backup your assertions. e,g the PC has had more AAA and AA exclusives in 2011 than either console and the PC gaming market is growing whilst the consoles is contracting.

[QUOTE="ducati101"] BTW, the console gaming section includes the Wii, 360, PS3, 3DS and PSP. If I'm not mistaken Wii software sales still dominates 360 and PS3

I wasn't sure, if that is true, then well...that makes some of the assertions here even more absurd.. :S

[QUOTE="MonsieurX"][QUOTE="Tikeio"]What do you want me to do, make a pie chart?

Tikeio

Cool story but you didn't provide any real numbers.

I don't have to. Like I said, it's common sense.

Dwell in your butthurt deluded PC fanboy world, where everyone and their mother has an i7 2600k/GTX 580 in their home computers if you want....

Someone sounds jealous, and for your information not everyone has ot needs a GTX 580 and a I7 26000k to game on pc.

An old $50 card will play games at better visuals than either console. Why have cotton, when you can have silk ;)

True, but when "most" computers is around a billion, that really isn't surprising. This was from 2008.

Now, we still haven't addressed the number of capable gaming machines out there, as your point just glossed over by addressing "most". So, since we have this statement:

That's why consoles dominate in sales.

Tikeio

It needs to be backed up.

You know that a 8800GTX (from 2006 that is older than ps3) or equivalent card cost $50 now and play any game with better visuals than consoles. so if you want to play with just better visuals than consoles you have to spent very little money, but if you want to get the best you have to get GTX 580 or equivalent.

Preferance aside, PC gaming is infinitely superior in absolutely all aspects compared to console gaming, which is outdated after like a month. The sooner you accept that irrefutable fact, the sooner you won't feel so horribly jelous. And once your older, you won't care.

Critic scores arent the issue. PC Gaming is falling behind in platforming, action/adventure games, sports games, racing games, and of course affordability. Shooters are even at best. RPG, RTS, and Indie games are the only thing PC is doing better than consoles right now.
