While Nintendo still using a 0.8 Teraflop GPU from 2015 in 2021.
Nintendo wants to make profit on hardware its why you will never have cutting edge mobile hardware on them.
It will be 2024 when we get a Switch 2 and it will be the same power as this for the same price.
That's pretty affordable for what it is (starting at $399). Might put some pressure on Nintendo. But probably not.
Meh, only 64gb. Should've been 128gb minimum.

It'll definitely put the pressure on the OLED Switch to say the least. Switch OLED $350 vs Steam Deck $400 is gonna sting on Nintendo's consumers skipping the OLED. I'm interested but idk if it's something that I'll use alot. The design gives me Sega Game Gear vibe lol. I did have plans to buy the OLED but seeing this now, I'll think twice on it. Playing Jedi Fallen Order on the go, well that has my attention.
This could legitimately be strong competition for Switch if Valve play their cards right and having competition is good for the gaming market so hopefully if it does well, we'll see even more innovation.

You can use micro sd cards.
Get the base model buy a micro sd card of of 256-400gb and you are good.
Wow, very cool!! I bet Xbox is kicking themselves right now lol Switch will still outsell this lol.
No, they aren't. It plays Xbox Game Studios games lol!!!!
Yeah, 64g is way too small for the games you’ll be playing. Valve was stupid to not make the storage much bigger.
They have a 512gb option and there are also expansion ports.
I like this, but i hate the storage... base model is hardly anything. Alot of PC games take alot of space and with no physical options for this... mehhh FF online is 60 gigs on its own.. COD is 133gigs so the base model doesn't have enough space for even COD by its self.
At least with the switch i can buy games physical and keep the majority of it off my memory cards
@Grey_Eyed_Elf: This Steam box isn’t cutting edge. No JoyCons, crappy audio, no Oled, old memory, no adjustable stand, no IR reader, no NFC scanner, etc. Don’t even have 4K. And it’s emulation. It’s horriable.
LMAO that is what you consider technology?...
It has a Zen 2 CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads and a RNDA 2 8 CU GPU with 16GB LPDDR5, for a hand held device that is as cutting edge as it gets unless you go with a Apple M1 chip.
Digital foundry already did a video on Vega vs RDNA 1.0... the same CU count there was a 30% increase in performance, meaning that a 8 CU RDNA 2 chip could be anywhere from 30-50% faster than a 2400G APU, putting it in the performance bracket of a GTX 1050.
Which can run Rainbow Six Siege at 60FPS at 1080p and the Witcher 3 at 1080p 30FPS High settings... Any idea what the Switch version looks like?...
Cutting edge!
I have a Switch, I do not have a problem with its screen... I have a problem with its performance.
I personally don't have any interest in mobile gaming, but I can see the appeal of having your entire steam library and Gamepass right off the bat for $50 more than a switch. Plus, I noticed another selling point that would interest mobile PC gamers: "if you want more power, you’ll be able to stream games to the Steam Deck directly from your gaming PC using Valve’s Remote Play feature."
@MonsieurX: Was about to post this and glad I saw this thread. Can you add more details on your own opinion please. You know just a vid without discussion isn't the best way to make a thread please.
Hot stuff just off the press. I guess more info is coming out
@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Its battery life is also being reported to 1-2 hours. Lol, what a failure. That’s cutting edge for you. I’m so impressed.
2-8 hours.

As for the battery, “Steam Deck’s onboard 40 watt-hour battery provides several hours of play time for most games,” Valve says. “For lighter use cases like game streaming, smaller 2D games, or web browsing, you can expect to get the maximum battery life of approximately 7-8 hours.” Valve tells IGN that “You can play Portal 2 for four hours on this thing. If you limit it to 30 FPS, you’re going to be playing for 5-6 hours.”

My iphone 12 can play games for longer than that and it costs almost the same.
@ivangrozny: Not even that. Can buy a cheapo £50 - £70 one and play basically hundreds of R's on them.
I like Valve and their Willy Wonka hardware brainstorms, defend Steam Controller to the end. But who is this for?
@rmiller365: That is so sad. People will be playing games while plugged to the wall. Bro, I played Star Wars Fallen Order for an hour, now plugged to my PC playing lol.
Are you a new generation of system wars special?... How does "4 hours and if you limit to 30FPS you can play 5-6 hours" translate to 1 hour exactly?...
This just proves that Nintendo had no excuse. This is powerful enough to emulate Switch, but only costs $50 more! This is faster than the Switch 3 will be! DAY ONE
Nintendo finally defeated! Third-party by 2025! This is where stagnation gets you!
Nice avatar you have there! Is that supposed to be a Switch broken into two?
